  1. Is there any way to turn off the auto-end? It doesn't happen very often, but I'd love to be able to invade the US after achieving a total victory in Europe.
  2. Nice read. Also FWIW, I think an extra 0 might have slipped into the minimum machine specs. To my knowledge Intel never produced an 8 GHz PIII. Thanks for the link.
  3. Those screens look sharp with the graphic inlays. Very nice job.
  4. Yep. I don't get this obsession with post count. If the mere quantity of discourse truly represented the quality of thought, then the United Nations would be hailed as the only organization on the planet with greater insight and effectiveness than the Unites States Congress.
  5. Jersey - You've been around here long enough to know that this forum is and perhaps always has been blessed with an overabundance of sanctimony.
  6. There is a lot to like in this mod, but am I the only one who finds Africa to be overly large when the continent played such a small role in the war? Sure the mercator projection has its drawbacks, but in my mind it works especially well in modeling a conflict that happened primarily in the northern hemisphere.
  7. In a forum about a WWII game, it is rather shocking to hear you say that France wins anything at all actually.
  8. Wouldn't it be neat if tiles (including sea tiles and including convoy attacks) were overlayed with a red hue to indicate where battles where fought in the last turn. It would give a since of where the action was and it would eliminate having to look at lists of coordinates to find where your convoys are getting hit. If you REALLY want to get fancy, then hold on to the list for a couple of turns and make the overlay color for 1 turn ago light orange and 2 turns ago yellow to show action over time. Finally, make the whole system configurable so people can select no shading, last turn only or last 3 turns.
  9. Yep. Nietzsche was obviously German, so the quote is actually: So the literal translation would be: Anything beyond that is simply poetic license of the translator. EDIT: For whatever it is worth, DD's translation appears to be closer to original text. [ July 02, 2006, 09:25 AM: Message edited by: John C ]
  10. How is it coming and any thoughts on when it might be posted?
  11. While there are solutions, the game was intended as a highly flexible and configurable engine and there are many instances where it would be beneficial to have more than 6 majors. I still hope that a patch expands the number of majors at some point in keeping with that vision.
  12. This won't win any art awards, but it can be a quick and easy stand-in until you get something decent. DOWNLOAD LINK
  13. OK. Link to updated file now included in original post (top of this page).
  14. Thanks, that would be great. Please send it to forward at chastain dot us
  15. For those who might be curious (as I was), the historical flags were downloaded 158 times since this was posted almost two weeks ago.
  16. Could someone post or link a screen cap of this mod? Sounds interesting...
  17. I know this is a knit, but why does the game end once you achieve a major victory? Sure, the game is essentially over, and I appreciate the splash screen but it then returns to the game screen but doesn't allow me to play on if I wish. I am sure many would think it pointless to play on, but what does it hurt? Sometimes I just want to mindlessly go on and plant my flag everywhere yet I cannot do so? The game is best when it gives players more options and I see no reason not to let players keep going if they wish to do so.
  18. I don't like rules that say you simply cannot do something. I prefer rules that make the consequences so severe that you won't do it. For example, I could see where a DoW on an "ally" would create a diplomatic stir. What if a DoW on a nation slanted in your direction by more than 25% caused ALL other nations to slant towards your enemy by whatever amount the target nation was slanted towards you. So, if Spain is 50% tilted towards the Axis and Germany declares war, All neutrals (including the US and the USSR) tilt towards the Allies by 50%. The same might occur with Minors already in the war so that if they ever get to where they are at less than even, they switch sides. So, Hungary joins the Axis and is +100% towards Germany. Spain and Turkey are both +51% Axis and Germany declares war on both. Hungary takes double -51% penalties and is now +2% Allies. At that point, she switches sides and immediately makes peace with the Allies and declares war on Germany. Her allegiance is then set to +100% Allies.
  19. I stand corrected. Add mine to the votes that this thread be closed and that appropriate messages be conveyed.
  20. Ummm... just for the record... that didn't help your case. You just made yourself look pathetic rather than sympathetic.
  21. Rambo - I understand your preference and I am tolerant enough to respect your right to play the game in whatever manner and with whatever symbols you choose.
  22. Just for the sake of clarity, at the time of the crusades Christian believers were split into the Catholic Church in Rome and the Eastern Orthodox Church in Constantinople. As discussed above, the crusades were the mutual response of both churches to the rise of the Muslims. Martin Luther did not arrive to form Protestantism until the 16th century, almost 500 years after Urban II's 1st crusade. So, the crusades were perpetuated by the united Christian churches in existance at the time. The Bishops called for the crusades and, again as discussed above, the worst offenders were the peasants - the rank and file Christians - who took it upon themselves to expand their mission. In every sense, the crusades were perpetuated by Christians. You might argue that they did not follow the true teachings or that they were not GOOD Christians, but what they did, they did for God in the name of Jesus Christ under the banner of His church and with the blessing of its duely appointed leaders.
