  1. I've run into this problem twice in a row in PBM games. Both players agree to cease fire. We both select the ceasefire option before ending our turns, but the game carries on anyway Is this a known bug ? Ps : savefiles available if someone from Battlefront wants to take a look at them.
  2. About what you asked, Broadsword : >BTW, so much of this shared cultural nostalgia is American or Canadian -- >makes me wonder how our older overseas friends here found their way into >the hobby. With WWII still so much in local and recent memory, >overwhelming desire to forget the war in Germany (compared to the >constant romanticizing of it in US media and kids toys in the 1950s and >1960s), and these boardgames we grew up with probably not published or >sold as much overseas back then. Maybe miniatures were more often the >"entry drug" for Europeans in those days? Or something else? I'm European and I've always been fascinated by WWII and I'm sure I'm not the only one on the Old Continent. Don't forget that we kids saw every single US war movie on TV, again and again over the years I should add (but dubbed in French as far as I'm concerned ) About wargames : they were quiet easy to find in a specialized shop if you had a decent town around (I'm speaking about the early 80's here). If not, one could order it by mail from the capital. Problem is most of the wargames came directly from the US with botched up translations of the rules (and badly printed too!) More than once my friends and I would argue about an obscure yet capital paragraph which was so badly translated that it could be understood one way or the other All in all we figured the best way to make it work was to read it in English . This, to my mind, is the single most important difference between American wargamers and European wargamers : we Europeans* had to learn a foreign language to play the darn games !!! * : yeah, ok, now that I think about it, them Brits haven't had to sweat as much as we did, but let's say they are the exception that confirms the rule
  3. Already had checked this website out : there is nothing about the series, except the detail of the episodes. No original title, no director, no company, not even a year. Nada. Maybe some of our russian speaking buddies will have a clue ?
  4. I would very like to buy this documentary on DVD but is it for sale somewhere ? Does anybody know ?
  5. What I really would like find in your website is a dedicated CM2X chatroom to find opponents for RT battles. There used to be one like that, The proving grounds, but it's been down for a while now. I sorely miss it and I'm sure I'm not the only one in town...
  6. Thank you GaJ for this wonderful piece of software. It definitely makes pbm way 100 x easier !!! Changed my CM gamer life, no less... Noob question here (sorry) but how does one download the new version of H2HH ? I've got two games going right now. Can I install the new version without losing my settings ?
  7. I agree with you. I'd like to be able to adjust fire without having to start it all again from scratch (8 minutes flat delay for a offboard US 105 mm !!!!). It would also be great if we could use a few more options such as : - hold fire / resume - shift fire toward a given direction (for example 20 meters north to move the barrage over that hedge/house which blocks FO's LOS) (this would allow a rolling barrage) - change type of ammo (switch to smoke or the other way round) - change duration (extend it or reduce it) - change intensity
  8. I'm playing a PBM QB right now and noticed that whoever picks up a satchel charge from an injured/dead engineer/breach team... is able to use it  Kind of useful since it's bad news to lose the only guys who know how to blow a hole in the bocage... but a bit unrealistic too, don't you think ? To pick up a satchel charge ought not make you an engineer. It makes it a de facto magic object
  9. Thanks for the info. Oh and I found an opponent ;-)
  10. Hi, is someone interested in playing a tiny or a small pbm game ? If so please PM me or email (jh_morneau@hotmail.com) I should be able to play +- one turn a day.
  11. I've tried to install the toolbar but it seems the link is broken. Can you have a look at it please ? Cheers, JHM
  12. My two cents : About the gameplay : - add a "armor cover arc" (pleaaaaaaaaaaase !) - for each vehicle add a "destroyed" version for eye candy and immersion About the User Interface : - add some more popups to help the user (for example if you put the mouse pointer on a unit attribute, its name pops up (for instance : "Leadership modifier") About the Quick Battle Options : - add the possibility so select more than one option for each item. For example, I'd like to tick all "Daylight" options EXCEPT "night", so that CMSF would randomly select one of the remaining values. About the Endgame screen, when reviewing the battlefield : - show all corpses, including those of soldiers who benefited from buddy aid - add a large and bright unite base for all units (active or injured/dead) to make them easier to spot (at the moment, it's a real PITA to find them !!!) - make buildings transparent if there is a unit inside About 2 players LAN/Internet : - add turn replay (I know it has been discussed before & there are some technical difficulties about that, but it's definitely on the top of my wishlist)
  13. Interesting ideas indeed. Count me in & thanks for your work, Niessuh ! I tried your "GUI optimization 2: unit info" and adopted it right away. It makes my life much easier (at least when playing CMSF ;-) No doubt the gameplay would benefit from your suggestions. I trust Battlefront will take them into account in some way or another. Un abrazo grandotote !
  14. Yep, it is a game abstraction. Manual, p. 34, "A word on bocage" : "- Bocage will block LOS and LOF unless directly adjacent to the bocage" So, AFAIK, a unit adjacent to a bocage tile will see through it without any penalty.
  15. The final allied mechanised rush along the road leads to some breathtaking close range firefights ! Il love the way the passengers riding in halftracks stand up and shoot at spotted enemies, sometimes at point blank range ! Unbelievable stuff ! Nice use of the zoom, especially with that AT gun in the middle of the road... Wow ! This VAAR really shows the incredible potential that lies in CMBN. When you think that this is how the game plays right now, out of the box, without any patch... You Battlefront people can really be proud of your baby. To my mind CMBN is a major stepstone in computer wargame history. I think a standing ovation is required here ;-)
  16. Wonderful job indeed ! But hey, how could the Germans stand a chance against the Amis ? They behave exacly like the small ants ("fourmis sucre") I was fighting against day after day in French Guyana : infinite, stubborn and restless  Isn't this scenario a bit unbalanced ? PS : what music did you use in your videos ?
  17. Dead Stug on a bed of wild norman flowers. "Sometimes there's so much beauty in the world I feel like I can't take it, like my heart's going to cave in." [Ricky Fitts, American beauty, 1999]
  18. Hull down Stuart can cause some serious trouble to the Krauts... BTW I was wondering : what is that thing all around the turret ?
  19. Sherman looks massive from that angle. This one wrecked havoc on some poor Stugs ;-)
  20. Wow I had a blast reading those fond gamers' memories... ZX spectrum, Archimedes, Amiga, those were the roaring 80's at their best. I always wondered why this frenzy of family computers was limited to Europe, whereas PC ruled over the US (but the PCs were then pretty limited as a game platform) (CGA graphics, yuk ! ;-) Anyway, I remember one german game which rocked : BATTLE ISLES : The cool thing was one player was moving his units while the other was attacking. When both players had given their orders, the attacks would be resolved and the surviving enemy units would then move as planned. Pretty original wargame mechanics if you ask me. But hey, that was so much fun to play against your buddies !!!! It might be considered as an ancestor of WEGO in a way...
  21. As a matter of fact, money is still being collected to build Bill Millin a statue : http://www.ddaypiperbillmillin.com/ Paypal accepted guys, so open your wallet and contribute to the cause ;-) I also read that stunning piece of news : "We have recieved very few donations in April. Not enough to make the statue’s picto more red. Neitherless, one of them is remarkable. A young Piper from USA won a prize with his piping. He sent it to us. We expect such an attitude since the begining. That pipers, as individuals, in pipe-bands, bagadous or bandas de gaïtas propose some music to the public and send the recieved money to the Memorial Bill Millin." A young piper from the USA... This world is full of suprises :-) So come on, CM grognards fellows, let's start another flood of donations for Bill Millin !
  22. When I did my military service in a French infantry regiment, back in 1995, I once practiced firing grenades (both antipersonel and antitank) with the FAMAS rifle. One had to use a special cartridge for that. I remember that AT were fired from the shoulder (with a heavy recoil) and AP with the butt of the rifle resting on the ground, like a mortar. Here is a video of a nice (AT) fumble :-) AFAIK ordinary conscript soldiers did not train with rifle grenades. I had the "privilege" to do so because I volunteered to serve in the IFOR headquarters in Mostar (ex-Yugoslavia). I guess that enlisted soldiers receive proper training with those weapons but I'm not sure. Maybe another French lurker could confirm or infirm ? And now something completely different and absolutely off topic : (well, let's say they are flying over Normandy ;-)
  23. Just ordered from France. It's 6 pm here and I was about to leave the office when I casually checked Battlefront website... could not believe what I saw ! Those 80 bucks (overseas p&p included) will punch a hole in my bank account, but I don't care. You know what ? I'm happy :-) God speed to you all, you deserve it !
  24. I recently played a QB in a small town. IA had german troops and I Canadians. The battle turned to my advantage and there was a lone Marder in a street. I sneaked as many as 3 infantry teams with SRAAW(M) in the buildings directly facing the Marder and ordered two LAV III to pop up at the end of the street with a fire arc. The result was several point blank range hits (at least 3) with SRAAW. Unfortunately the Marder engaged my men and routed them all. When the LAV III appeared they emptied their 25 mm ammo on the Marder which went silent. I thought its weapons had been eventually damaged, so I moved one LAV to his side. The Marder then "awoke" and smoked the LAV with one salvo and the other one decided it was a bad idea to insist and backed up ! This seems wrong to me. Is the Marder totally immune to SRAAW AND 25 mm rounds ????? Here is a picture of the Beast : Uploaded with ImageShack.us
