  1. Yes! Oui! Ya! Sí! It should not be that difficult to implement BTW...
  2. Thanks for your posts. Marty, you're absolutely right : when using hexes you need to have 3 covered to form a line. The problem with SC2 is that you have the optical illusion that two units in a vertical line will prevent enemy units from going through. This is misleading to say the least. Now, what about implementing the good old rule which says : moving into a tile adjacent to one enemy unit will automatically end the move? This could do the trick. Cheers, JHM
  3. Sorry my drawing was flattened Here it goes again : Before :------ After : ....x.. ------ ....x.. ..y.... ------ ......y ....x.. ------ ....x.. Cheers, JHM
  4. Hi, I'm new to SC2WAW and I've been caught off guard more than once by units with high mobility sneaking through 2 defensive units (in diagonal). Here is a rough drawing of it (with x being defensive units and y the sneaky bastard) Before : After : x x y y x x I lost two towns because of this and it really hurts! In most wargames that I know offensive moves invariably end the very moment the moving unit comes into contact with an enemy unit. This is definitely not the case in SC2WAW. Can someone explain me the reason(s) why? To my mind it is unrealistic and gamey. Thanks for your attention, JHM
  5. Very interesting thread so far. But there is something more that always makes me wonder. Why are so many english speakers (US?) so reluctant about typing swear words? Here are some examples I found in the posts : f**k F word F*ing f-bomb s%^&* s@%&head A@#hole s@#$ Very telling, isn't it? AFAIK there is no such thing in french. Why on earth is it so hard to type **** and **** ? I'd say it has to do with puritanism, but maybe I'm wrong. No offence meant BTW.
  6. Looking for beginner SC2WAW opponent, pbmail but online also doable. jh_morneau@hotmail.com messenger : madgraphic
  7. Hey don't forget me, I'm also interested ! My email is in my profile. Thanks ! JHM
  8. Indeed. Found a thread named "8ft concrete wall doesn't block small arms?", but there is no official comment in it.
  9. I agree 100 % with panzermartin : there are big LOS/LOF problems with the current version of CMSF. Yesterday, I had syrian FO unit moving behind a 2m high concrete wall, which means they were fully protected. However at a given point they were spotted by US units on the other side of the wall and then methodically mowed down by small arms & machinegun fire which went right THROUGH it!!!! My jaw dropped when I saw that ! I also noticed some strange small arms fire landing on my infantry while there was no LOS whatsoever. Obviously the fire went through the top of the ridge. What puzzles me is nearly no one posted about LOS/LOF on the forum so far. For me, it is a major issue that should be fixed asap. Don't you think so? BTW I also wondered why those concrete walls were undestructible in the game. I pounded them with A1 fire, to no avail. Couldn't even smash through them with my tanks. Weird and annoying.
  10. Hi there, I wish someone could explain why tanks keep on charging the enemy. I tried every possible order, including defend + click on a given point of the map, but it is useless. After a few moment, the tanks will move and charge again and again. I'm sorry to say that this ruins everything! The other day I was playing the Allies, Caen scenario IIRC. Lots of deadly AT guns on the hills, so I ordered my tanks to stay safe out of los behind a hill, while the grunts would spot the big guns and call for artillery, but no, they won't stay still for more than 30 seconds ! As soon as enemy armor is spotted, there it goes again ! You're cautiously giving orders to your soldiers, and wam !, the cavalry rushes past them (or through them), and it's a clikfest to stop them and order them to reverse. Tiring ! Am I the only one around getting mad about that? PS : this is sad, because the game has got a tremendous potential... JH
  11. DeLaVega, that's an amazing piece of art if you ask me ! I just imagine the incredible amount of work behind the scene. Congratulations chap !
  12. >Originally posted by John Kettler: >SlapHappy, > >For goodness sakes, they're antitank nades, not >nads. What a ghastly image you've conjured in my >mind! What's next? Scrotal charges? >(rushes off to shrink for PTSD treatment and ECT) > > Regards, > > John Kettler Hmmm, I wish some english speaking folk would explain to us foreigners what "nad" and "nade" mean... Thank you for enlighting us !
  13. French West Indies, and still nothing but I'm used to it here Looking back, it was a great idea to download the game (even if it meant the computer running all night long). Cheers from Guadeloupe,
  14. Hi, Very late last night I found a most interesting post while checking the forum : >StellarRat >Member >Member # 4086 >- posted 15-05-2007 12:06 > >You know in some games you will get slow frames >with the AMD dual core if you don't install the >AMD dual core drivers for XP and the dual core >optimizer software from AMD. You can download >both pieces of software from AMD. I had never heard of that ! How on earth are we gamers supposed to know that? So my question is : do those two things (AMD dual core drivers & optimizer software) have a significant an impact on the framerate when playing TOW? If so, I strongly suggest the admin gives this piece of info the publicity it deserves on the forums. I was also wondering if those were included in the windows update process. Does anyone know something about this issue? Thanks for reading and have a good day, JHM
  15. Rogue, try to conceal your AT guns in bushes or behind tree lines. I noticed that this made a huge difference !!! (don't leave the guns as they stand at the beginning of the setup, or you are toast Then concentrate 75 mm AT fire on the heaviest panzers (Panzer II, then PIV). Re-crew all the guns as fast as possible when the get hit. To counter the last tank assault on the right, you can do the following : - set up the towed AT gun as fast a possible in the forest (on the left hand side of the road) and wait for the panzers to reach the top of the hill - move your AT tankettes a bit forward and position them to ambush the incoming german tanks, but don't go to far otherwise they will be destroyed by incoming fire from tanks still in the valley. BTW you have time to move one or two tankettes to your right flank (behind the village then up the road). From there, they can get side shots on the incoming germans (pretty effective indeed). Hope this helps ! JH
  16. Hi, Thanks for your help ! I eventually managed to get the licence offline (oddly enough, the program hanged if I tried to "save to a text file", so I had to select and copy the stuff with the mouse). Needless to say, you must solve those licensing problems asap, otherwise you will lose many many customers ! So good luck with bug hunting & keep on with the good work, JH
  17. Hi, I'm afraid I've got the same problem here : getting a -9 error message when trying to get a license. I disabled windows XP firewall, but it did not change anything. Never installed zone alarm either, so what is going wrong????? Is there an issue with Spywareblaster / Spybot ? Please help us out quickly because it's incredibly frustrating to achieve a 8 hours download for peanuts ! JHM
  18. Greetings fellow wargame addicts ! I'm 33 now and remembering Pink Floyd's « Time » lyrics : « The sun is the same in a relative way, But ten years have got behind you, No one told you when to run, You missed the starting gun. » I also remember that I'm french and started playing arcade videogames when I was 8 or so. Then it was the glorious (european) 80's with so many personal computer to play with : TI99, Amstrad CPC 464 & 6128, AMIGA (the real and only Queen!). I eventually turned to PC gaming in order to play the best flight simulators around. I never played that many classic wargames, but I had friends who were very fond of them (SL, ASL, Flat top...). My kicks came basically from roleplaying games (out of topic here I'm afraid) and classic strategy boardgames (DIPLOMACY, CIVILIZATION, JUNTA!, Full metal planète...). Speaking about PC games, I had a passion for WW I & II flight simulators : Aces of the Pacific, Battle of Britain, Red baron II, Aces over Europe, IL2 series. At the same time, I have always been interested in easy to play wargames such as Battle Isles (Amiga) (a fantastic game, german if I remember well), Sid Meier's Civilization & Colonization, and the famous PANZER GENERAL series. Then I discovered the STEEL PANTHERS series, which I played intensively on pbm for years, until I downloaded a demo of the first CM. I think it was in late 2002. I was instantly hooked and bought CMAK as soon at it was released, and then CMBB as well . Sorry to be so long, but it's a real pleasure to pay a tribute to the fantastic games I was lucky enough to play during my life. Let's hope TOW will be the next classic on the list ! Cheers, Madgraphic PS : if you don't know it yet, I highly recomend that you try Naked wars (http://www.naked-war.com/), a brilliant british indie pbm game (2 players only)
  19. I fear this is out of topic, but I wondered if "ColonelBlimp" had something to do with David Low's cartoons in the Evening Standard during WWII ??? I discovered him while making a research in Colindale newpsapers library in 1995. Did not expect to meet him again as a nickname in 2007, though !
  20. To come back to the initial subject of the thread, I think it would be interesting to have french units in just for the Leclerc MBT. As far as I know this tank has never been simulated in any decent wargame, maybe because it was so expensive and an utter comercial failure (the only client so far being the United Arab Emirates). For those interested to know more about the Leclerc : http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Char_Leclerc http://www.army-technology.com/projects/leclerc/ Another good ole' piece of equipment : 6 wheeled reco ERC-90 Sagaie : http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/ERC-90_Sagaie Cheers, JHM
  21. Same with me : downloaded the new demo and was so far unable to play at all. Ran the installer several times, but the game remains 0.9.94 ... Very frustrating indeed. Please give us a hand!
