  1. This is anecdotal, but I was an artilleryman in 7th Corp from 1977 to 1980 and we too had the flak vests which we kept on top of our lockers and always wore on maneuvers. I'm sure the gang has researched this so I'm not saying they're wrong.
  2. All the arid vests were in Afghanistan and hardly any available to invade Syria right?
  3. Steve posted this in another thread: "Ah, camo uniform discussions... I really like those Soviets first introduced a standard camouflage field uniform (TTsKO) in 1981, but it was not in wide use for several more years. Outside of Cold War's scope. The US 6 color desert ("chocolate chip") uniform was developed in the mid to late 1970s as part of the post-Vietnam shift. The desert uniform was not generally issued until the early 1980s and even then it was in short supply. Because few US forces were deployed to desert environments there wasn't much reason to produce many. In fact, when Desert Shield started up many units had to go to military surplus shops to purchase commercially made versions of the uniform as sufficient stocks were unavailable in military stores. Same thing happened when OIF started up. Which is to say neither uniform is included with Cold War. Steve"
  4. We'll probably have a mod for that sooner than later I bet,
  5. No arguments there. I wanted to clarify for this thread what was meant by CMX3. I'm not sure sometimes what people mean when they wish for it.
  6. Does any one know if the current engine could allow moving beyond Open GL etc to these new interfaces? And thanks, I appreciate learning new things,
  7. Redwolf, could you elaborate a bit what that means please as it's above my head? Thanks
  8. Just to define what is meant here. First Engine was CMBO CMBB and CMAK The second Engine is everything since CMSF I. Sometimes this is currently called Engine 4 and they are working on Engine version 5 but for this discussion I'm calling it the second Engine. Therefore since Black Sea started out using the upgraded second Engine the hinted at Marines module would have to remain part of the second engine (as far as I know). A third Engine as defined here would be something totally new. Not necessarily in it's subject, but in structure. I hope that helps clear what as meant here (or do you disagree?)
  9. I also recall something about open GL losing support or something like that, but that sort of thing is over my head.
  10. Okay, it's not a car analogy like Steve prefers, but B-52's have been flying for 60 plus years and have been doing fine. Sure the B-1 and B-2 are improvements (and now are getting old themselves) but the B-52s can still get the job done. My question is, though while a new engine would certainly have advantages, what is is that the current engine can't do? Note my question isn't what the current engine doesn't currently have but can be added ( such as a robust terrain fire feature), but what is it that it can't do? This question isn't meant to argue against a new engine. I'm just honestly curious what specific advantages a new engine would bring that some one who really knows what they're talking about could name? Right now I can only think of curved terrain (roads, rivers, railroad tracks), and a major improvement to how fortifications could be presented and still maintain fog of war.
  11. Making this a wish list is fine but I'm almost certain the next project to be officially announced will be Black Sea Marines. I'm just wondering when.
  12. Others have suggested we might still see Engine upgrades for SF2 which is where I would think such a feature would fall. Also the treaty came out in late 2008 just a few months after our pretend war, though I can see the US/UK/NATO deciding not to use them anyway. Guess we'll have to wait and see. The US still hasn't signed the treaty, though MikeyD mentioned the US abides by it except at the DMZ in Korea.
  13. Isn't part of the problem with CM:A is exactly who owns the rights now is disputable?
  14. I've often considered if the Cold War went hot in Europe what North Korea would do? I don't think the Soviets would give them advance notice of their intentions. There would be conflict in the West Pacific between the US Seventh Fleet and the Soviet Pacific Fleet and Soviet Air units in the Vladivostok region. Likely Japan and South Korea would assist their allies. I would think the PRC would stay neutral but North Korea might be tempted to have a go at the South while most of the USA's attention is on Europe. If Australian Forces went anywhere in time it would more likely be Korea or the Middle-east I would think. Australia had its own carrier back then and the Australian and New Zealand Navies would almost certainly get involved.
  15. I wanted to tell about my experience with helmet and poster mods a while back. I found one sees less diversity on posters and helmets if the graphic settings are lower. It's possible face graphics are the same. I almost never zoom in close enough to tell with faces.
  16. Mord, I take it you read that trilogy. How did you like it? I've not read it myself.
  17. IMHO most sci fi movies and TV shows use infantry weapons that are in effect inferior to the WWII era.
  18. Not that we don't appreciate Fire and Rubble and especially Cold War coming from out of the blue. Tea leaves say it will be the Black Sea Marines module but we might get surprised again ( or have I missed an official post?).
