  1. Harry, I'll see what I can find, I think I might have something in that vicinity. Those AAR's are notorious for mispelling or completely misidentifying place-names. I notice though that grid references are given, which are usually accurate. The maps I have "should" have those same coordinate grids. McAuliffe, I think your link is the same destination as mine, but I get a "proxy error" from your hotlink   great site though. 2. Harry, I've got some good coverage at 1:50000 circa 1944. some of elsenborne ridge and Losheim Gap at 1:25000 circa 1938. Let me know what battle you are doing and I can scan something for you. Also check out: belgium topo There is some good old stuff there as well.
  3. Just to clarify, the (psuedo)name is simovitch And thanks for the plug PC, I appreciate it.
  4. 1. Remote bridge demolition  2. Exhaust plumes  3. Tank Tracks left on the ground  4. Geographically correct birdsong 5. Out of scale B24's flying over the battlefield at angels 0.5
  5. I loaded this update from microsoft and it just seems that the graphics quality is better and smoother now on my machine. Is this just wishful thinking, or can the directx updates (from 8.1)improve the quality? I have a ATI radeon geforce 9800.
  6. Yea, it has nothing to do with the number of constructive, topical and/or informative posts that you have made, so double posting definitely helps gain that allusive "member" status.
  7. what the feck does any of this have to do with CMX2? Isn't there a general forum for this sort of drivel?
  8. As a 2nd place round One player I will be glad to step in for some of those who are having trouble completing some games on time. If the administrators make it official, I'm ready to play.
  9. In Engineering terms, "perforation" definitely means it has holes in it, not just dents.
  10. I picked up Coles book "The battle of the bulge" at Barnes & Noble a few years ago for $20  . I used to drool over it at the local library as a kid. One bit of the data that I know of has since been proven erroneous (the ubiquitous "Tigers" at Krinkelt) but it is indeed a must have.
  11. My #1 must have is "A Time for Trumpets" by Charles B. Macdonald. Kind of like Ryan's books; a little dated, but still an enjoyable, as well as reliable and informative read.
  12. Do you mean the one with Sandler or Reynolds playing the lead?
  13. I second that. My 1944 Ardennes topo collection has recently expanded and I would like to put them to some good use. The CMX2 scale may not be big enough to warrant accurate topography, but having these maps will be better than nothing.
  14. It was my "HSG Operation Snowdrop" about Stirling's (SAS) abortive raid on Benghasi. It used to be on the now-defunct depot. email me and I'll be glad to send you a copy of it.
  15. I think a great stride in LOS-FOW would be to allow the player to toggle off both his opponent's colored unit base, and the "target next" option. a player could perhaps limit his views to level 1 or 2, but still have his own colored unit bases an easy view as to where his own troops are. Something akin to "Franko's true combat rules".
  16. Why settle for Billions when you could have, say... MILLIONS?
  17. May be...may be! But...we will all see how unpredictable you guys were when you show up with CMx2. Or how predictable you were all the time? </font>
  18. I for one would not buy it if there was no vs-AI play. I would like to see built-in "programmable AI" settings allowed by the scenario designer, like: "hold at all costs", "fighting withdrawal" "probe" "all out attack" etc. I think the Talonsoft series did this, to some varying degree of success.
  19. Don't fear the reaper... 1. Allow combining of 1 man remnants into larger squads, perhaps at a cost to overall morale. 2. Provide for water courses of different types, and add some water sound effects. 3. Provide a linked campaign system with core group history. 4. Maintain current historical integrity. No Arcade gaming here. 5. Don't feel that you have to over-tax current technology just to make a great looking game that only plays on top-end systems. Allow the user to toggle hardware demands from the pre-game interface.
  20. Speaking of sound, a little trickling of water as you near a creek or river would be a nice effect.
  21. By golly it's the Ardennes, of course.
