  1. Warhammer 40K or Fantasy would rock. It would also kick the crap out of the current Warhammer 40K game, which goes against all board game tradition and has your usual build-rush tactics. Ugh. Common ParaBellum, don't you want to see animated melee combat in glorious, CMx2 engine 3D?!? Yes you do. Don't lie now.
  2. Explain to me then, all your emails demanding that I show you "where it hurts". </font>
  3. I believe the new game centers around the valiant efforts of several fanatical, socially-inadequate WW2 geeks who live in their mother's basement to have CM: Shock Force totally scrapped, and instead remade anew as a tactical simulator portraying the infamous actions of Finnish uber-men defeating no less then 14 Soviet Guard Armies using nothing more then their fierce blue eyes and titanic crotch bulges. Though I could be wrong. Im not a doctor.
  4. Linval Thompson, 'I love Marijuanna' Wait...this is, like, music for CM:SF right? Umm, what were we talking about again?
  5. All your Gates are belong to us! Err, sorry, wrong net-culture refrence...
  6. Add T-90's! Kewl concept tanks (black eagle)! Shmel's! Thermobaric bombs! Ah, to dream...
  7. I'd pay money for that but only if it was turn based. I'm thinking of the "mmmmLeeerrrooyyyy nnnnJeeennnnnkinnnsss" principle at work in RTS.... </font>
  8. Is it bad to have vivid dreams of beating O'Reilly to death with a tire iron? Two weeks in a row? That does bring about an interesting question: If we were to start a war with Syria in 2006, would BFC change the subject?
  9. It kinda sucks, but I'm pretty sure Steve said multiple times that their personal interest in what they call 'fantasy' scenarios like WW3 in Syria is nill. Although he then usually adds that they WOULD be interested in 'fantasy-fantasy' games like "Middle Earth Mission: The Shire to Sargoth". Go figure.
  10. Muletears, I've been meaning to travel more lately, and the Middle East is a fascinating destination. Lots of history dating back to the birth of civilization as we know it. How safe is it to travel to, say Syria, before the 2007 invasion? Seriously though, are tourists now advised to choose other destination? Is there an abundance of kidnapping for ransom ala parts of South America? Your pics are tempting me to look into alternatives for Europian travel in a few months. Mord, Relax big guy! I know a certain masseuse who does out calls - Pierre is just what you need - we can't have you go on television with all those stress lines on your forehead and bags under your eyes!
  11. Pffft, it's a well-known fact that BFC is in cahoots with the armies of the U.S., U.K., Germany and most other Western European powers. The top brass is shelving out top cash to make sure BFC gets the right values so all other future operations can be properly simulated dozens of times to insure the highest possible rate of success! The Russian Federation has been in talks with Madmatt about giving up their info in return for this high-tech sim, but it's reported BFC won't settle for anything less then two dozen suitcase nukes one of those 100 megaton ICBM's they claimed to have decommisioned.
  12. Modern day Chechnia and/or 1980's Afghanistan should technically be possible as a 'total conversion' (of unit skins/voices) using the Red vs. Red play option.
  13. Actually, Steve has stated that according to Charles, map sizes should be around 2km x 2km. City maps might be even smaller. Just because it's technically POSSIBLE to take out a tank at 3km, doesn't mean it happens very often or would be feasible or easy to do.
  14. Tom, You have to expand your thinking beyong the rather simplistic weapons of WW2. Although I'm no military man, I have read a good deal of modern doctrine/AARs, and the best way to describe modern armored tactics in CMx1 terms is with the 'Shoot and Scoot' command. IMO, in CMx1, the shoot and scoot has little effect (especially playing as the Soviets, with their poor optical sights), but in modern war it's a whole 'nother story. It has been this way for a while- I've read an excellent account of the battle for Hue city (don't remember the title now), and the American armor employed the 'shoot and scoot' almost exclusively in this dangerous urban setting. Basically, the vehicle drives out at a fast speed from behind cover, fires its weaponry at a pre-designated target (described to it in detail by its infantry cover), and reverses at maximum speed back into cover. That's pretty much the only way to avoid having your million-dollar gadgets blown away or immobilized by a $25 RPG. Same with non-urban environments, really. The defending ATGM teams have the advantage of being hidden in cover, usually with good fields of fire - the best way to avoid them is of course to not expose your vehicles as much as possible. Dash from cover to cover, flush out enemy positions with forward advancing infantry, and then have the armor dash out of cover to land a shot or two and back to safety.
  15. None of the things I mentioned require any engine modification. Just unit textures, sound files, terrain tiles and some custom-made scenarios.
  16. I agree with you, but Im amazed that people don't seem to understand one crucial point: THIS WILL BE POSSIBLE TO MOD WITH THE CM:SF ENGINE!!! You already have Soviet-style weaponry and armor. You have MBTs, APCs, AK-47s and with the upcoming modules, NATO forces. I'm willing to bet that this will be one of the first 'total conversions' done for CM:SF by the community. Hell, you can even simulate some utterly crazy Germany vs. England scenario (assuming modules include U.K. and German units, which technically Steve said they'd hope to do) with the Blue vs. Blue option that Steve specifically said will be included!
  17. Something tells me that by the time the game is finished, those Alpha screenshots will look pretty close to OFP2. Steve said that CM:SF map sizes will be about 2km x 2km, so those kind of terrain features aren't totally out of the question. Of course I may be a bit too hopeful That's an ignorant statement, if I ever saw one. Early to mid 90's, maybe. Performance has gone up ten-fold from experience gained in the 2nd Chechnian war, Russian Federation infantry weapons are some of the most advanced in the world, and general solider quality level should technically increase after they end conscription in 2010. The economy was the crucial factor in poor performance recently, and as it improves so will everything else in the country.
  18. Oh but Mord, anyone who appreciates the virtues of Uranus can't be all that conservative!
  19. I live in the USA, I hate Bush and most conservatives/republicans, and I don't think the current war was, is, or will continue to be a good idea. None of that MATTERS when it comes to this GAME though! By purchasing and playing CM:SF you aren't supporting, ahem, 'USrael' - you're supporting a privately owned and operated wargame company. By simulating the current REALITIES of MODERN WARFARE, you aren't simulating geopolitical nuances. Just like by playing the Germans in CMBO, CMBB or CMAK you were not supporting the extermination of countless Slavs, Jews, Gypsies, invalids, homosexuals, etc. (although by some of your rhetoric I wouldn't be surprised if you were).
  20. Don't worry! That guest appearence on 'Queer Eye for the Straight Guy' you booked should make that book fly off the shelves like hot cakes in a refugee camp. Thanks to Uranus we'll all be rich! Wait, did i spell that right? That was you?! I don't remember that, and those pictures don't look like my ... wait a second, we're talking about Syria now? Seriously though, cool photos. I hope BFC has access to a lot more of those - I personally wasn't able to find pictures nearly that cool, but then my Google skillz are lacking. Sounds like a cool vacation. 21. I thought I woke up sore this morning...dude, KY is considered common courtesy, OK?!? Jeez, if you gave me forewarning I would have trimmed the backyard...
  22. Neither is Syria. I think Steve mentioned in a few threads that the difficult and varried terrain in Syria is one of the smaller reasons behind it being chosen - or somefink. Doesn't look exactly tank-friendly, now does it?
  23. I don't think China would intervene on behalf of it's insecure, more-then-a-little-kooky southern neighbor. In the 50's, sure. Now that the USA is one of China's biggest partners - not very likely. Nor is 'mass' an advantage in modern combat. Not with things like CAS specifically trained over the last 50 years to deal with a massed Soviet attack. At least the Soviets had the hope of better weaponry, leadership and lots of prep and supporting fires. Little Kim can't support much on those 8" heels of his. I think it won't be super difficult to mod though - just replace desert with grass, diffrent houses, trees, uniforms and sound bytes.
