  1. Dave - it's definitely a great start to try H2HH on Win7 in Parallels. This is actually how I'm testing H2HH on Windows (because I don't have a Win machine). But ... if it works, then you can't help me figure out why it doesn't work Cheers, GaJ
  2. Sorry for the slow response on this one. I'm snowed with RL, and am also waiting for inspiration about how to tackle it: H2HH works fine for me in Win7, and for many many others too. But if it won't even start, it's really hard to debug. Is there someone out there with this problem who's moderately computer literate, who would be willing to help out. This probably means getting a tiresome tests from me to try. I'm hoping to have some time to look at this over the Xmas break... GaJ
  3. Hey - most importantly - can someone let me know if these even works, at all? Thanks! GaJ
  4. Can you guys on Windows7 with trouble try 2.10.1 that I just posted at http://bit.ly/h2h-helper The older versions were working on my Win7 machine, but I build 2.10.1 a different way to see if it helps you. GaJ
  5. What OS are you guys with a problem using? Ta, GaJ
  6. Is anyone out there using H2HH on OSX 10.6.x (Snow Leopard)? Please identify yourself Thanks, GaJ
  7. Does this boil down to "please make it so that when I click on the smiley, the main window opens"? I've had that in mind for a while - I just need to learn how Or are you also wanting the minimised icon to completely disappear, so there is only the smiley, and nothing on the task bar? That'd be another (likely more difficult) thing for me to learn to do GaJ
  8. Yay - that's the hope Heh - you'd have to take that up with Steve GaJ
  9. Yeah ... I changed the way that I was doing it, because it was hard for some people to participate in the shared directory: have to sign up for Dropbox, have to take care not to mess up the files there etc. The downside is that the updates don't just appear magically. Maybe I should do both, and leave people who want to have the folder shared to have update access. Hmmm... maybe too fiddly - let's all just use the link, I'll announce when updates are available Cheers GaJ
  10. Hi All, H2HH 2.9.0 is available, directly from this link: http://bit.ly/h2h-helper You do need to update. If you don't update, you will cease to be able to use H2HH to chat with opponents who have updated. I was forced to make this "break with the past versions" due to a library I was using (both in saving your information, and in doing the chat) becoming unsupported on Macs. This new version also has revamped support for internationalisation, and new French and German translations (thanks to DingChavez and poesel41). We should no longer see the occasional failure to cope with international file names. It's a much improved base for new things I would prefer for H2HH to be obtained only through the link above: if you have previously been making a copy and sharing that, because of the hassle of my previous dropbox distribution, could you point to this now instead, please. As always, if you have any hassles, let me know. The Help->Bug Report menu option is as good a way as any. Thanks, GaJ
  11. "and then nothing happens" ... that's not good! Can you PM me, we'll try to sort it. Also, can you run it from a command prompt like this, if you know how: h2hh.exe reset-state Thanks! GaJ
  12. It shouldn't be that. Let's take a closer look offline ... PM me some details. Cheers, GaJ

  15. Do you have some _other_ game or installation that has a different dropbox path? If not ... then this is rather wierd. Maybe H2HH 2.9.0 will do a better job ... and if not, then please drop me a line, lets sort it out. GaH
  16. In 10 years time you might not even have a computer (at all) or one that supports reading such a legacy medium... GaJ
  17. Whoa - this has slipped between the cracks for me. I'm not recognising you or this problem - have you reported it to me? Can you contact me outside this (Ian's) thread? Ta, GaJ
  18. I just thought it was enlightened of those guys to want to be like Picard rather than Kirk Or maybe this was a Guardian distortion, and really they wanted to be like Kirk GaJ
  19. After I typed the above, I thought to myself "you lazy bastard, why don't you just fix it so the migration keeps the data". So I did. 2.6.3, now available at the download link here should migrate you seamlessly from 2.5.4 (I tested this as thoroughly as I can), and likely from any 2.x version (not tested), without forgetting your existing setup. 20. Hi Ian, One substantial difference is that WTII presents all the games that you are playing on one pane, something people ask for from time to time that's sadly still on my todo list (H2HH currently separates them by game-type) The most significant difference, though, is the "chat" functionality - yet to be offered in WTII. It seems almost inevitable that this is something you will want to add soon, because it is one of the things that people say they like most about using H2HH. This raises an important question: when you come to implement chat, will you make it work with the H2HH chat mechanism? Right now, it is mildly irritating to have an opponent who's not using H2HH and you can't chat with them without moving to email. Often this situation is solved by persuading the oppo to start using H2HH With uptake of WTII not supporting chat, this situation will be exacerbated. Similarly for the upcoming opponent-finder features. If we don't interoperate, there would be two pools of players - those who use H2HH and those who use WTII - with an increasing number of reasons not to play each other. I hope this is something we can avoid. Regards, GaJ
  21. PhilM is right - I should have said more about how to update and what happens when you do. You never actually _need_ to uninstall an old version of H2HH BUT each new version looks in the exact same place for it's operating information, so you can't use two different versions at the same time: they would fight each other about the information. This new version of H2HH has a fundamentally different way of remembering everything you told it(*), and as a result it can (as observed above) forget what you told it before as it moves to the new way. Is this a drama for folk? I _could_ spend time making sure it doesn't forget during the transition ... or I could spend time working on hew features The way I looked at it is that it only takes a few moments to re-setup the games that H2HH finds that you are playing, anyhow. However, if someone has a customised setup with many games in motion, and H2HH forgetting about their setup for a moment would be a drama, I'd be happy to see if I can make a "no forget anything transition" version... GaJ (*) The library I was using before got out of date. It appears that it became incompatible with something on some Macs, though I still have no idea what or why, since I work on a Mac and it worked for me. But that is behind us now Shiny new code for doing it
  22. Hi All, H2HH 2.6.2 - Mac is available via the download link here (*) It fixes a strange issue a few people on Macs have reported. There is still a known issue with "unicode characters" in game file names ... I'm still working on that, but if you don't have any non-English characters in your game file names, and you're on a Mac, then this one is the one for you. 2.5.4 is remains the latest for Windows - as far as I know there are no issues with that. GaJ (*) I would like it if this becomes the only place that folk are getting H2HH from. If you are distributing it elsewhere, can you change that to a link to this page, thanks! I'll get the instructions up to date soon etc
  23. Looks like Ian's lifted the bar for the product collateral - nice web site! GaJ
