Is this game worth it?
Major Jerkov replied to Kryzith's topic in Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin
That is plausible, considering most of them have more than one SSN. -
Combat Mission & the future
Major Jerkov replied to Manx's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
"The preceeding wasn't a paid announcement or endorsement... do not taunt Happy Fun Ball. " You dont play UrT, do you? Heh. -
VOTE for CMBB! Gamespy's Game of the Year Award
Major Jerkov replied to Lindan's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
Voted SGOTY CM:BB, but, if you havent played Mafia, I'd suggest you do. I had to give it AGOTY and GOTY, its really good. -
Like putting out the fire, with gasoline.

I want a Speedometer on the Unit Info Panel
Major Jerkov replied to Brent Pollock's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
No he means a tachometer. OHHH, MY T34 NEUTRAL SLAMMING @ 7000 rpms... ohh yea. -
Engine rewrite .. single player mode
Major Jerkov replied to Barleyman's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
Thats something that really bugged me in OFP, borg spotting to the 9's, bastages see through bushes, trees, anything... and all you would see is a little black speck opening up on you with extreme accuracy... gah. Ohh, scripting, yes. Its usually been a way in most games to compensate for less than satisfactory AI, I could see it being a valuable tool in this game as well, as long as it doesnt kill replayability, ie alternate AI "plans". Also, the cooperative games with the "AI" could be fun but also very frustrating as someone above pointed out. -
How to install winter uniforms?
Major Jerkov replied to Aragorn2002's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
Are you playing in a scenario thats in the winter WHEN the uniforms are present? -
Shout out to the Moddaz!
Major Jerkov replied to Gaylord Focker's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
He say "Awwww damn time to give mad props out to the moddaz yo!" Wiggety-wack, Gee! -
"Everyone in this thread is lauding the Il-2 game engine, which is an example of an efficient engine made by a talented programmer. Do you think Il-2 would have been helped by having the budget of GTA?" I've only seen SS's of this game, never actually played it, so I couldnt give you an informed response. Although, that other game there working on looks quite nice.

Have you noticed all the trees/soldiers weapons are 2'd sprites? ala doom? Its definitely a good way to deal with repititious items, such as trees, but... There is alot on the battlefield at one time, I'm not saying there isnt. It was a fine engine in the "year 2000", although, outclassed. Sh00t, MaxPayne at highest resolution and details runs much smoother than, this... and those are photorealistic textures/nicely defined polys. Do you deny this? I'm not saying this is a terrible game or insinuating anything remotely to that. I love this game, cheese-mo graphics and all. Take a look at some of the games I mentioned, and report back, so you can give a more educated response.

Anyone here ever play Sacrifice? Ground Control? Giants? Although all are RTS, they provide beautiful graphics, with lower end systems. Graphics are what you can make of them, you have a sweet graphics engine, it can run on even lowly systems, and still look damn hot! These games have alot of units on the screen at one time, plus 3d landscapes, its all about the coders being up in cutting edge technology(per se). A game like CM shouldnt nearly be as demanding on your system as it is, effecient coding is the key. Maybe thats the overall price of a non-commercial product...

Well this is something you can do yourself. Go to the unit purchasing screen, select the division in question, check out the weapons loadouts and what nots of the platoon/co/battallion whatever... compare them to there regular army counterparts. More than likely they are included to fill the historical accuracy pov, not neccessarily bring anything "new" to the table besides the chance of purchasing them, and cool new uniforms! I could be wrong.

LoL! Among other complaints, I dont feel the *twitch* crowd would appreciate a game such as this. Just for the graphics alone would be a big no seller, STS. *twitch crowd*, I loathe this term, because I do love me quake-type games, but I've a love for history and TB type tactics/strategy games as well. Which I fear is not the norm.

Fantastic 'Barbarossa' photos
Major Jerkov replied to JaegerMeister's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
Yes, very nice photos and short biography Barry. Also, you should give CMBB a try. -
Just stick with Infantry, mechanized, armored, cavalry etc... The others are for more precise matchups wanted by scenario designers, I'd suppose. You can use them, but, its more likely you'll encounter units of the avg. div..

Why didn't the AI surrender?
Major Jerkov replied to markshot's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
It shows his GM at 65% and the AI's at 4%. Odd. -
Aye, good point. Although, I'll probaly have a bigger, badder VC by then, and $100 aint too much of an expenditure for the mean time.

Why horse transport not modeled?
Major Jerkov replied to jbertles's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
Yep, horses, lots of horses, and motorcycles.. well and bicycles.. heh, among other viable transport. Although it wouldnt have been too bad to see them occassionaly, but I can understand the omission and there use was primarily transport, we got jeeps, trucks and halftracks to tote stuff around if neccessary. I would love to run into a platoon of ss-bicyclewerfennerfers with some kv-1's, however. But if you miss those other modes of transport, try EFI&II by TS, to see what your missing... -
Modding the bases of Units, Possible?
Major Jerkov replied to Major Jerkov's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
That is unfortunate, and thx. -
Nvidia 4200 Ti 64mb is a good card for the price(probaly close to $100-$120 smackaroos(or less), a 128mb by the way makes little to no difference in the effectiveness of the card, sounds more impressive, but, there is no real performance increase to warrant an extra $40 or so dollars on. I know little to nothing about ATI cards, they are supposed to be doing better on the driver(s) performance or lack thereof...

Hmmmm... Just sounds like good advice to me. </font> -
I know little about the ghetto uprisings, but find it intriguing. Most the nazi-wannabe-punks, if so inclined to play a "wargame" such as CM, would find any other numerous scenario offerings to satiate their ignorance. As said before, the poles/jews were armed, its not a "total massacre" scenario... is it?
