Well, the Volkssturm played a large role in the fighting for East Prussia and towns like Lauban and Bautzen, so I agree with you that we will find some use for them. I hope we don't have to wait much longer.

Each to his own of course, but I don't entirely understand people's fascination with the Volkssturm. Badly armed, badly trained, often badly led, they fought with great courage, but for me not very appealing, although perhaps somewhat useful for flank protection and such. For me FR is all about Volksgrenadiere, Fallschirmjäger and Waffen SS.

I wonder whether there's a book that describes this fictional conflict from the West-German side.

For me the best book on Prochorowka is by far Blood, Steel and Myth by George M. Nipe.
