  1. It is by far one of the most fascinating and dramatic episodes of the entire war in the east. Personally I think Wintergewitter only had a fair chance on succes when the 16th Motorized Division and possibly several units of the IIIrd Pz Korps had been taken part (in an early stage) in the operation, combined with a determined execution of Donnerschlag. If only Paulus had the courage to defy Hitlers stand-or-die orders, much would have been possible. The men and officiers of the German 6th Army were the tip of the spear of the Wehrmacht and proved in the bitter fighting, even after all hope was gone, that they could accomplish incredible things. The best book on the subject is of course "Bis Stalingrad 48 KM..." by Horst Scheibert. A good addition to that book is of course "Lost Victories" by Manstein. Finally Douglas E. Nash' superb book "Hells Gate', about the battle of Cherkassy, gives a good impression of what might have been, if Donnerschlag had taken place.
  2. Our messages crossed each other, Old Dog, also thanks to you for your support.
  3. And now, thanks to Gordon, I'm also smiling from ear to ear. Thanks Gordon, for your great help by email which solved my problems. Thanks for your patience and time. And also thanks to you who reacted on my requests for help. You have a great community here. Combat Mission forever!!
  4. Okay, that makes sense, but I do select winter scenarios.
  5. Yes, the re-naming of the exe file did the trick. Thanks. Now another question. I go to (for instance) Rule set Winterfahrzeuge dunkelgrau, select "Apply" for "This icon will modify all dunkelgrau German vehicle graphics for which applicable mods are installed." and apparently the chance is performed. It should be white washed, shouldn't it? Then I go to the game and see nothing has changed. I need your help once more.
  6. I bought both games within a week and didn't touch my other games after installing them, which is quite unique. These are the games for the real wargamer/historian. Together with Steel Panthers they approach reality more than any other game. And of course I couldn't help myself from making huge, unbalanced scenarios... But I'm learning fast.
  7. It didn't. I tried the same procedure, but this time with the external zip files, but the same "ping" is sounding. Yes, but even when I tried to install the external zip files it still doesn't work.
  8. Yes, the files are definitely downloaded fully and I'm absolutely certain I select CMBB in the dropdown box. And the rule sets are zip files with names such as "Rule 001-001 zip", aren't they? And they do not need to be unzipped, if I'm not mistaken? (Before I forget; thanks for your help, I highly appreciate it)
  9. For two days now I have been trying to make CMMOS work. The CMBO part works splendidly, but the CMBB is another story. I start CMMOS, select CMBB and then the **** hits the fan "Barbarossa to Berlin Exe not found!", okay deep breath and use the open file dialog to locate and select CMBB Exe from my CMBB install folder. Then I press configure, select Rule Sets (only see CMBO rule sets appear?), select Add and browse to the folder where the rule sets are placed, click on one of them and only hear a ping. Nothing happens, no automatic download, nothing. Same thing with Mods. I fully realize I'm making some very stupid mistake somewhere, but can't put my finger on it exactly. So please, help me.

  11. I would prefer a re-make of Beyond Overlord. Secondly I would like to see the North Africa-campaign (including Italy) and thirdly a Third World War would be great.
  12. In the Combat Mission HQ Picture archive I noticed an old screenshot of 10-30-00 of a Panther of the LSSAH with a personal insignia representing a panther jump through a circle traversed by a lightning flash. Where can I find this Panther (RO2)?
  13. Or just another Normandy-version up to the standards of CMBB?
  14. What exactly did you copy from CMBB to CMBO? It looks a lot better, so I would like to try it too.
  15. I understand. And they did an amazing job. I bought this game last week and I'm very impressed. In fact I took some days off to make it a long weekend, just to be able to play this game. I can't forgive myself for not having discovered this game a bit earlier.
  16. In games as Steel Beasts and Panzer Commander one can sometimes see flying turrets after a tank has been hit. I love it and wonder why it is not included in Combat Mission. It is such a spectacular effect, which belongs in a great game such as this.
  17. If you mean the FAQ on top of this page I can't find it. Can somebody please give me a link or something?
  18. I received my copy of CMBB today and I'm simply in heaven. Two questions: 1. Is there a patch for the European version to change WaffenGrenadiers into Waffen SS Grenadiers? 2. Is CM Beyond Overlord after the patches of the same quality as CMBB? My sincere compliments to those men who made this superb wargame. I salute you.
  19. Thank you for your reactions. And the support for this game is indeed impressive. For me the most important aspect of these games is to study tactical warfare, since the AI of the demo is very good. I have been looking for a long time for a game like this (next to my passion for Steel Panthers, Panzer Commander, Medieval Total War, Il-2, Steel Beasts and some other quality games), since tactical realism is hard to find in 3D games. I'm pretty excited to have found this game and I'm sure I'm going to enjoy this. I will start with buying CMBB and knowing myself, CMBO will soon follow... Thanks again for the feedback.
  20. I've downloaded and played the CMBB demo today for the second time. The first time, some time ago, I was slightly discouraged by the way the soldiers and Soviet AT-guns looked like. But reading all the enthusiastic comments (also in the GI Combat forum) I came to the conclusion this game had to be special. I'm glad I did give it a second chance and I realize that my first impression was a wrong one. The realism of CMBB is impressive and the tactical possibilities are a dream come true for me. I'm sure this is only the tip of the iceberg and I will order my copy today. Finally I have this question. Is CMBB better than CMBO, or are the games equal? In that case I will also buy CMBO. I would be grateful for some reactions of people who own both these games.
