  1. Sure thing Mr Byte, although I'm a PBEM virgin and relatively new to CMBO/CMBB so you'll have to be gentle with me. It's only fear of a good thrashing that has stopped me doing it before. I'll mail you my home e-mail address now. Pies
  2. I'm interested. I Got the game this morning so I will be able to let you know how the units are named this evening unless some lucky so-and-so who isn't at work beats me to it. I would imagine your initial translations are correct though. Pies
  3. Got it in the post this morning, So it should be on the shelves now too. I think Mr Byte has already claimed the crown of getting it first but I thought I'd kick off the inevitable rash of I GOT IT threads from this green and pleasant land.
  4. Tsk Tsk PDF, Dont be so hasty to put him off, we need more cannon fodder after all is said and done Seriously though Steveshaw if you are looking for a great tactical simulation of the Eastern Front you will never do any better than CMBB. If you aren't I'd still give it a spin, I can guarantee it will hook you anyway. [ October 10, 2002, 09:04 AM: Message edited by: Captain Pies ]
  5. Hmmm Who did you pre-order from Mr Byte? I might use them next time, mine hasn't turned up yet so GAME are lying bunch of Bastiches (Unless my postie is now happily engaged in a 1000pt QB)
  6. WOOOOT! Just got a confirmation email from GAME saying it's been dispatched. Should be with me by Thursday. A whole day early, a whole extra day of game time! (no thanks to CDV). Now I need new pants Pies
  7. Jiggles If you preordered from Game or EB they will post it so it gets to you on the 11th, at least thats what they say. What they do is another thing. Pies
  8. EB and Game are the same company so no surprises there. Couldn't find any mention of the game at all on PC World. They are also one of the biggest retail outlets in the UK.
  9. First the 20th, then the the 4th and now the 11th!! One more slip and it will have to be an Easy Jet flight to Sausageland to buy the kraut version. I shall of course pause briefly to chuck a Molotov through the window of CDV's office Now I'll have to start brushing up on my German Just sent a mail to Amazon UK customer services telling them to link to BTS as well as CDV [ September 24, 2002, 06:52 AM: Message edited by: Captain Pies ]
  10. Soddball Their full monty day was about 150 quid. Includes the driving, clay pigeon shooting, a boobytrap finding course run by a couple of ex SAS blokes and a few other things too. You are split into teams so the best thing to do is take a bunch of mates too. Pies
  11. For those of you in the UK check out http://www.tanks-alot.co.uk/ You drive Abbott SPG's, APC's and Lance Missile Carriers. Best driver gets to flatten a Ford Escort in the Chieftan at the end of the day. They occasionally have a T34 when its not being used for movie work.
  12. Easiest thing here would be to allow the user to have limited control of the position of the light source or even have a calculated light source consistent with the actual sun position for the time of day/year. Low angle lighting will pick up the details of the terrain very nicely
  13. An alternative would be to allow a contour texture to be overlaid on the terrain like a real map or colour code the elevations, red for high blue for low with a rainbow colour gradation in between. My line of work is in 3d Visualization and thats how we look at mapped surfaces in the Oil Industry.
  14. Thanks for the comments, I look forward to seeing this implemented in the next generation of CM games. It would be a nice way of getting troops close to those pesky MG Pillboxes without major casualties.
  15. I noticed that where there was a lack of immediate terrain cover, bailed out crews hide under their tanks. Does this now mean that vehicles provide cover and concealment? as opposed to CMBO where they did not.
