  1. My great uncle was in the RAF 150 sqn on Wellington Bombers. His Squadron lost 17 of their aircraft on an abortive raid on Berlin and Mannheim. Those that were lost mostly ditched in the channel and the crews drowned. Unfortunately my great uncle was among those that were never recovered. His name is on the Runnymede RAF Memorial for those men of the RAF without a known grave. The awful circumstances of the raid only came to light recently as the 50 year secrecy rule expired and documents pertaining to it were made public. 4. I've seen this effect a lot in Africa, 50 yards seems a bit extreme but it might happen. It is very dependant on elevation too. The viewer and the object being viewed have to be at similar elevations with little or no elevation changes between them so you are looking through a very "thick" (horizontally)layer of heated air. If there is a valley between them or the viewer is higher than the object being viewed the effect is much reduced if apparent at all, because the "thickness" of the heated air is also reduced.
  5. Anything based on Popskis Private Army please. I'm sure most of the big battles people are requesting will be covered by the CD scenarios so something small along these lines would be great for those of us with lower end machines and graphics cards
  6. Anyone else out there? we should be down to four people now I'm assuming Holien is one of them, that leaves two that are AWOL, care to speak up?
  7. I hope that CMAK will be going nowhere near CDV  . I'll be buying mine direct from BFC and they have stated that it will only be available from them (at least initially).
  8. Since all I could hear was the sound of the wind whistling under the door of this thread and a loose shutter banging against the window frame I thought I'd liven the place up a bit by announcing the completion of Happy V Bashful. A very well balanced game it was too resulting in a draw 54% - 46% in my favour. Soddball opened the game aggressively by trashing one of my three platoons and capturing one of the flags. However his assault on the other flag was nipped in the bud by a well placed arty barrage and the dispatch of two or three of his T-34's by my skulking StuGIIIF's. A determined attempt to roll up my flank was also stopped by the StuG's and resulted in the loss of all but one of his remaining Valentines. I ran out of time trying to push a weak platoon and two StuG's back over his flag. Looking at what he had left on that flag I would not have succeeded anway so the draw was well deserved. Tipped in my favour by The death of most of his tanks.
  9. Buying it. I've forgotton what my Wife and Child look like and my skin has taken on an unhealthy palor.
  10. Dont' Panic Mr Mainwairing! Multiturreted cruisers featured on the CMAK page would suggest all multiturreted tanks will receive due attention.
  11. Interesting stuff. Can't say I've ever used sewer movement in any games be they PBEM or against the AI. I'll hijack this thread and ask if anybody else has ever bothered with it on a regular basis? It's rarely ever mentioned on the board so it would seem it's not used much. Rather a waste of programming resources?
  12. I don't think they've ever said they would include a pop up OOB, but its been requested so many times in various threads that it's a good bet it will make it in. Maybe they would like to comment???
  13. I think the earlier suggestions for having a clickable OOB would be a workaround for this idea and is something we are likely to get in the CM2 engine. Just pop up the OOB, sort on troop quality, click the unit you want to see and the map will go there.
  14. The soldiers trousers are also bloused out above his boots which would suggest strongly its a yank.
  15. *Scottish accent on* Och, there's a moose loose aboot this hoose. *Scottish accent off*
  16. Only if you want large box shaped burning tanks. I believe the underlying model will restrict it to that
  17. I did a major hunt for info on PPA a year or so ago and didn't turn up much on the web, but that may have changed. The best source of info remains the book. It was re-released here in the UK last year and is available on Amazon. IIRC there is a scenario for PPA in Talonsofts Western Front that could easily be adapted to CMAK if the relevant units are available. I'll tackle that if there are no PPA or LRDG scenarios that ship with the game which is unlikely I think considering BFC's attention to detail There is also Bob Yunnies book, Fighting with Popskis Private Army. This Site has most of the pertinent information about PPA [ August 01, 2003, 04:36 AM: Message edited by: Captain Pies ]
  18. Looks like he got banned from all the Plymouth brothels and is coming back to haunt us again since he has nothing better to do. Get back under your bridge!
  19. Fantastic, I'm off to find a scenario with loads of bunkers in it, suggestions anyone?
  20. In answer to your first question. The behaviour is correct. If your spotter has no line of sight to the plotted target. How is he going to know where the spotting round falls and adjust before firing for effect? I think you'll find if you plot a target out of LOS and then move your spotter into LOS your rounds will fall on target if you manually adjust. There are plenty of threads in this forum about the arty behaviour out of LOS, I suggest you search for them. Monty beat me to it. [ July 24, 2003, 08:52 AM: Message edited by: Captain Pies ]
  21. Nice work Andrew. FWIW I think the layer lines might look better in light grey (lighter than the base colour) rather than black or dark grey. Those tend to be ridges where the concrete has oozed through gaps in the cladding and should catch the light from above rather than cast a shadow. I'll use 'em when they're ready.
  22. If you make it to the UK, go to Bovington Tank Museum or the Imperial war Museum in London. In Germany the Panzer Museum in Munster. [ July 14, 2003, 10:33 AM: Message edited by: Captain Pies ]
  23. I was browsing this site after one of Sealions enthusiatic posts took me there and found this curiosity Looks like it ought to be in CMAK but I've never heard of it before. Anyone got any more info than this page has to offer?
