  1. As cmmods may be down for a while this may provide a temporary solution for mod authors to share their work. www File Share Its very simple to setup, only 500k to download and best of all its free. It's not a peer to peer filesharing tool, it is a very simple web server that allows you to share file direct from a directory on your PC. Obviously bandwidth depends on your connection type and the URL is only good for the duration of your connection and whey your ip address changes so does the URL. I've used it a few times to share CM patches when people have had problems downloading them. It seems secure and works OK with firewalls that I've used(Norton and Sygate) All you need to do is point it to a directory (I used my Mod directory) and that is all that gets shared (not yr whole drive) Here's a working example ..... Lou2000 Temp Web Server It may help modders distribute their works. Certainly better than trying Kazaa .... (that has been tried and failed in the past!) Note: The 'exCMMOS' mods listed are ones processed by McMMM so wont work with CMMOS anymore ... but I only use McMMM now anyway Lou2000 [ October 05, 2003, 07:05 AM: Message edited by: Lou2000 ]
  2. COG .... The site will be missed, but there are more important things in life . Here's hoping all that good luck goes where it's needed most ! Lou2000
  3. Awww thanks GaJ But I think the thanks should go to yourself for making this mod manager. I'm sure it's something that lots of people have been waiting for. Good to hear that people are using it and not reporting any major problems. The download couldnt be in a better location for ease of access .... nice one COG You know where to send it when the new features are ready for testing Lou2000
  4. Thanks for the update ... good luck with ! I've not put a deadline on the games, we'll just see how they progress ..... but a regular update on what turns each of the games are on would be good, so that I can see how they are moving and hopefully we can get both games concluded at about the same time. I'd also be interested in players thoughts the settings for this round ... in particular the troop quality. Lou P.S. Has CSM junior arrive yet
  5. cmmods seems to be down at the moment and I need an excuse to try out some new webserver software (wwwfileshare pro), I have put a copy of McMMM here - DELETED Edit: Iv'e taken it down now as cmmods seems to be back on line ..... and has a great first page link direct to McMMM. (8 people took a copy from me last night) Lou [ September 29, 2003, 02:21 AM: Message edited by: Lou2000 ]
  6. Personally I like the current method where the jpg's are available if people want to view them. Especially as this method also allows users to view any .txt or .doc files However I see no problem with a jpg auto-preview being included as an option, although I think most users would eventually turn it off. Steiner14's idea about the directory structure is far more useful .... a good future addition to McMMM It's already replaced CMMOS on my PC.... One mod manager for ALL my mods is a much better approach
  7. I think those wanting to use British (or commonwealth / european / US) troops stuck with CMBO ...... Imagine all those 'British' troops running around shouting Russian...... If there was such a mod, can you think of an easy way to apply and remove it
  8. I agree with you that cmmods can be slow, and that it is a great asset to the CM community, but I dont think you'll find any alternatives. Like eichenbaum said .... bandwidth costs money .... quite a bit of it. The Proving Grounds used to be the place for mods, but I think I'm right in saying that the huge bandwidth requirements/costs took their toll. It's now back as popular as ever, but as a multiplayer / scenario development site  There were others but they all became a victim of their own success .... and our 'need' for the latest mods CM mods website hosts are in a no win situation. To provide a faster service they need to pay out more cash, to afford this they need to charge mod downloaders. Not enough people would be willing to pay to make this viable ... so the site would fail. Keep it free and site is going to be slower, but the site survives. I'm just glad that there are CM web designers willing to put so much effort into the ALL sites we use, often at a loss....nevermind a profit. Lou2000 PS - if you do get a good connection to CM mods ... try downloading GreenAsJades McMMM mod manager  and check out his tread in the Tips & Tricks forum.
  9. GreenAsJade has just released a beta version of a new mod manager that will work with BO BB and AK and it doesnt need rulesets or compliant mods. That means it will work with ALL the graphic mods on cmmods.com ..... AND it can also handle CMMOS compliant mods.... Its also VERY easy to install and use.... available from cmmods.com.... check out his posting here ..... McMMM Its worth a look ! Lou2000
  10. Alpha drop replaced by Beta version ... All working and looks good ! Nice work GAJ ...... now it doesnt matter if a mod is CMMOS compatible or not  Lou2000
  11. I think you'll find that GreenAsJades McMMM mod manager will be able to swap your splash screen bmp's without any problem ... just zip up each splash screen bmp's and it should work fine.... It should be released in the near future !
  12. Apart from the above comments ... if you are going to be modding CMBB I'd backup up your CMBB bmp folder (i zipped mne and put in on cd) as you cant just copy the originals from the disk. Also keep an eye open for GreenAsJades 'McMMM' mod manager ....it should be available soon. It will allow you to easily try out mods and remove them, but without all the fuss that CMMOS needs (compliant mod files & rulesets etc) so can use all those non-cmmos mod on the cmmod's website  Lou
  13. Even if just want the stock bmp's in the game, I'd suggest giving Pakfans interface mod a look. Lou2000
  14. Not just sandy ............ (Matilda in caunter camouflage) Though I think you'll find Gordon has something similar in the pipeline, if his previous posts of a couple of months ago are anything to go by. Lou
  15. Actually my mistake .... CSM Hollis gets the honour of doing the setup with his 845 points over Dr Juzzy's last game score of 631. CSM it's over to you ..... take your pick and way you both go ! Can one of you post here ... or email me once the setups have been exchanged and the game is running ... just so I know the state of the current games. As for a CMAK tournament ...... it looks like there is going to be some interest, so I'll probably run one once we get enough people with the game. All NOWT players will be offered a place .... plus a few others (relax Holien you're in ) and I'll post/email for other player to join. I'll also be looking for some input on how to expand the 'Team' element of the tournament, any ideas send me an email. But that wont be happening until.... A) The NOWT final is complete CMAK gets released Lou
  16. OK, CSM- First off ..... I'd like to wish you both lots of good luck with the forthcoming birth. ( get some sleep in now, whilst you can ) Glad your back with us .... if/when you are ready then the second Semi can get going .... see previous post for the settigs. I'll have to check previous scores when I get home from work .... but I think its still Dr Juzzy for the setup ... I'll confirm it later. (unless you just want to go with it). Also a big thanks or Mr Byte for standing by to play and also for helping get in touch ..... but I guess you now join those of us who tried and failed Still there is always the CMAK tournament (If I get enough interest). Dr Juzzy ...... you'll still have to fight for that place in the final Lou2000
  17. CSM Hollis >>> Please get in touch regarding the next round. If I haven't heard anything by Wednesday (24 Sept) then I'll be moving Mr Byte into the vacant slot in the Semi-final. I'll have to do this as I've not had replies to emails or seen any posts from CSM for a couple of months Mr Byte / Dr Juzzy >>> Standby to go using these setting ........... Settings for the Semi's: Date: Sept 44 Region: North Time: Dusk Weather: Cool/Overcast Turns: 27 (variable) Battle: QB Meeting Engagement Points: 1500 Map: Medium Type: Town Trees: Heavy Hills: Modest Force selection: 10% Casualties German: Armour / Infantry Quality = MEDIUM Russian: Armour / Infantry Quality = HIGH Note: Take your pick - German equipment or Russian troop Quality !!! Dr Juzzy You get your pick of sides and do the setup. So you have a couple of days to work on your setup before you find out who you'll be up against ! Lou2000
  18. Well this wont help you much, but I'm using this combination. I dont know who's tree bases they are .... so maybe the mod author (or somebody else) will let me know who's it is. I know it is CW's gridded grass ... but I also us a non-gridded one. These pics are from view level 5 and clearly show the difference between grass / scattered trees and woods. With trees on. With trees off. If somebody knows whos mods they are I'd appreciate it. Lou2000
  19. I'm trying to get in touch with CSM Hollis, so you can both start your next battle. If I cant get in touch with him then it looks like you'll be in the final. Edit ========================================== On second thoughts if I cant get in touch with CMS Hollis then there is no reason why Mr Byte shouldnt go through into the Semi's. Mr Byte are you able to take CSM's place if we cant get in touch with him ?? I have tired CSM's last known email address with no reply and done a search but he doesnt seem to have posted on the forum for a couple of months. I'll give it a couple more days. ============================================ The other Semi-Final has just got up and running. And I know some of the 'Also ran' battles are still progressing and there seems to be some interest for a similar CMAK event. [ September 20, 2003, 06:09 AM: Message edited by: Lou2000 ]
  20. If the results look like anything on this site then I'd like to see the pics ...... Model Galleries Check out the M3 Stuart Honey, North Africa in the British WWII section. The detail is amazing. Could provide a little inspiration to some of the modders ..... Lou2000
  21. Holien .....I'll reserve you a place ......but only becuase there's nothing worse than seeing a grown man throw a tantrum Nestor .... I like the idea of the whole team going through ... I'll have to have a think about how it could work ... and ideas just email them over. And I'll keep you a spot open for the CMAK one (if we ever get this one finnished !) SteveS .... Thanks for the update, good to know we have actually got a semi up and running. Mr Byte / CSM Hollis / Justin5471 .... Can you get in touch. Need to know the result from the Mr Byte/CSM Hollis game and if Justin is still out there waiting !! Thanks Lou2000
  22. I've given McMMM a run through today and it seems to be working well on my PC (XP home / P4 2.4Ghz / 256ram) I like Mies idea, but it may be on GAJ's list of things to do under the 'immediate install option'. It would be nice if eventually it could scan the selected mod directory and import (preferable giving the user the choice) new mods into the 'uninstalled mods' area. For me McMMM has already replaced CMMOS ...Why ? Simple ...it works with all mods not just 'compliant' mods. That means all the mod on cmmods.com  Keep up the great work GAJ
  23. Is this getting close ? (blatantly digging for a bone here )
  24. How about a pic by the British artist Terence Cuneo...... Something like these... Military-art.com Lou2000
