  1. Obviously this will depend on the spec of yr PC. I have the UK CDV version on a 2.6Ghz P4 and it load up to the main screen in 6 secs by clicking the mouse button when that damn annoying CDV logo shows or 12 secs if I just let it run. I used to run CMBB on a 1Ghz Athalon and dont remember it being much slower. Is there really that much difference with the US version ?
  2. You may end up being the one who goes back to that thread and posts the answer to everybodies problems Hope it all holds out !
  3. Monkey_Boy Welcome to the world of CM. I hope you enjoy it as in buying CMBB you've just lost a large chunk of whatever you used to call reality Always nice to see another UK player hitting the forum !! Before you know it you'll be just like the rest of us ...... Driving through the countryside enjoying the day, when suddenly your thinking ...... that would make an excellent ambush position for a StuG !!! One word of advice ..... Its wise to avoid any thread with 'PENG' in the title. If you read their posts and dont understand whats going on its much better to just leave. You've seen the movies with the deranged relative who is kept locked in the attic ...... need I say more !
  4. Gents, The NOWT is progressing, my games are over but others are still working their way towards the final. You all know that Apache has been kind enough to offer a prize for the winner ...... Well now Justin5471 has come forward with a prize for the runner-up of the final. Its a copy of Infantry Aces of the Reich by Gordon Williamson. It's not brand new - but should make a good second place prize. I did a search on Amazon and both prizes get a good review. And even though I've got no chance of reading them ..... I'd just like to offer a vote of thanks to both of them for the generous offers If we have an Apache Vs Justin final then you can both do a swap Thanks guys - I'm sure the finalist will enjoy the books
  5. Thanks Jiggles ... I think the AAR will show just how close the game was. I've been on the wrong end of artillery many times ... but never had it cause so many problems as it did this time. By the time it stopped I was praying for 'extra time'. A couple of times I thought it had stopped just to have it start again on the next turn. Killing the Tiger was almost good to see ! it didnt need shots to the rear at point blank range and didnt need one of the 'super tanks' to do the job. I bet it'll never work like that for me Good game .... thanks [ May 09, 2003, 06:05 AM: Message edited by: Lou2000 ]
  6. I've been lurking in the BCR threads for a while, watching the rules develop and I've tried twice in the past to use them but my efforts didnt amount to much .... NOW I'm ready and have all the sheets ready, I've read the rules and rolled up a couple of 'trial' battles, just to be sure I'm happy with things. It's true there is some 'book keeping' involved in the rules and thats what put me off before but now I'm finding that it acutally helps me get a feel for the capabilities of my force and I actually 'enjoy' the paperwork involved !! I've seen/got/printed all the rules and player guides but has anybody thought about putting a BCR FAQ together ... I'm sure most of the problems 'BCR newbies' run into have been seen and answered before. I just wanted to say thanks to all those who put the hard work intogetting the rules to their current state. 7. After doing a search on Google for 'bugcheck' it seems a few people have this problem. I didnt turn up a solution, but this link may be of use... Bugcheck prob thread A few gamers on this site seem to be having very similar probs to yours ..... who knows an answer may turn up ... the thread seems quite current.
  8. FireFly .... have you tried using XP's 'system restore', if you have a recent resore point it can fix quite a range of problems. After rooting around in the registry at the weekend my system started playing up and I couldnt drag n drop, copy, move or delete any file within windows explorer ... system restore cured it just fine. Obviously it works best when using a recent restore point ... the older the restore the more chance something wont work as it should ... newly installed software etc. Failing that you could try to reinstall CM ? 9. Not a problem ... there are still 2 round 1 games running, but both are getting close to the end (i think). Just good to see at least one of our green team who is NOT playing in the losers round The pages have been updated and can be found HERE - just follow the link tot he NOWT page. Keep them coming guys ... once all round 2 games have started I'll open up a new thread.
  10. The next games are...... Quarter Finals: NickT (2909 points) Vs Justin5471 (1416 points)- So NickT gets to choose sides and does the setup. Play-off's: FireFly (287) Vs Nestor (185) With FireFly taking the choice and setup. Yet another Allied victory ..... it certainly looks like the settings were biased in their favour. However I'm fairly sure the round 2 settings are much closer. My round 2 game with Jiggles is into overtime and I wouldnt like to make a call on the outcome. Especially after he took out my Tiger. I'd be interested in knowing how CSM Hollis & Mr Byte are finding the new settings ... especially after their early armour losses. I'll update the pages shortly. Well done Justin ... at least one of the green team managed to get to the next round
  11. Thanks again for feedback. I've altered some of the terrain to allow the attacker some alternate approaches to the village for infantry. I'm considering extending the map behind the village as there is a particular type of scenario that I want to try create. (first map + first scenario). I'm hoping to plan it so the defender has a small amount of troops in the village at the start of turn 1. The bulk of the defenders forces will be a little way behind the village as I want to force the defender to move his units into town and establish a more 'hasty defence'. Putting guns, troops etc into position once the game is running rather than viewing every possible LOS during the setup phase. Obviously I'll need to slow down the attacker, so I'm considering a small recce force moving up the valley ... maybe meeting a split squad of defenders near one of the bridges or being harrassed by a couple of sharpshooters. Then the main attacking force turns up as reinforcements. Anybody played this type of battle before ? I've played quite a few attack/defend scenarios and as defender I have almost always checked every single LOS during the setup to find the best positions, then there is usually little to do in the first few turns apart from wait for the attacker to show him self. Again ..... any feedback would be welcome... I've never played a scenario as the defender where I have had to tow my guns into position and mount a defence with the game running ... Would this scenario work ? Any suggestion on force size or units ... I'm planning on having the Axis as defender ... late war facing the Russian advance into eastern europe. As for Italy .... its my plan to import this into CMAK if it is possible and rework it as central/northern Italian map. Thanks
  12. Whilst doing a search on Google I turned up this old BFC forum posting from 2000. Full Thread Bullethead (member number 74) if you are still out there stand up and take a bow ... funniest post I've seen in ages...I just had to post it!
  13. Please ... just a few more turns ... Please ! And there I was thinking you'd want to post to let everybody know your Valentine just killed my Tiger ...... Shhhhhhh .... I'd like to keep that one quiet. ...............Oh damn
  14. This may be of interest ..... SCW music files (mp3)SCW Plus timeline and other info
  15. I like this idea ... looking forward to seeing how it develops. Its an area that doesnt get much attention =============================================== Another often overlooked area of the war I've been thinking about for a mod is a Manchuria campaign Mod .... Russia Vs Japan in '45. The whole thing only lasted for a few weeks but would be interesting and fairly easy to do ... all majority of Russian forces involved were shipped straight from Eastern Europe so wouldnt need to be modded. The most of the Japanese tanks were only light and could probably be represented by some of the lighter Axis units ... Including hungarian stuff. Other than that some uniform mods would be the main thing ... of course the voice/sound files would be a bit difficult !
  16. Thanks for the feedback gents Still some work to do at the attackers end and along the river banks. Then just tidy up the rough edges and that should be about it.... Unless anybody else has something to add ?
  17. Not a chance ... BFC have made it clear there will not be any major changes to the game or its engine. Hopefully it is something we'll see in the new game engine along with a much improved campaign mode.... imagine a 4 (or more) player campaign. I'd even like to see a similar idea used for a new single player mode .... Where the player only controls a certain amount of the units (50%, 75% etc) and the AI controls the rest. That way you would only be in charge of a small number of forces having to decide to to take your objectives or provide support to AI controlled units. With a few new commands to 'request' artillery or armour assistance the only support units you could be certain of would be the ones under your control. We'll just have to wait and see !
  18. Just asking some general feedback (good or bad) on a map I'm making.... River Valley Its a small farming community with manor house situated at one end of a river valley. Not really 'Russian' terrain but more suited to late war ..... Hoping to make is suitable for a mech attack/defend. Its still a work in progress and there is more to do, especially at the attackers end of the map. Its my first attempt at a map and I'd be interested in a few ideas on how to improve it !! Anybody know if CMBB maps will import into the CMAK editor ???? As I was making it i thought it may be better re-worked as an Italian map ! Thanks
  19. Wot - No results For what its worth inmy battle with jiggles we have just lost a tank each ... and I have spent the last 10 turns ducking from mortar / artillery fire ............. I'm sure he must have found some unknown 'power-up' for spotters !!!!
  20. Thanks BFC 2nd edition Strategy Guide just landed on the doormat (UK).
  21. Oddball_E8 - you have my sympathies....(my IL-2 died the same way) Accidents do happen ... thats why I'm going to buy a second copy of CMBB ...... However its getting harder to find a copy in UK stores UK copyright laws permit making a single backup for personal use as long as you own the original, however software distributors quite understandably dont want to make this too easy to do. (As there are some low life pond scum who'd abuse it.) That isnt a problem when dealing with a company with good customer support (like BFC) who offer replacements .... but I have no faith in the fact that CDV would agree to replace it. I was going to try get the CDV-US-Retail release, but I doubt they will offer much/any support for that either. Mat ..... As BFC intend to supply CMAK to europe is it now possible to order BB direct from you ??? I dont want to end up CMBBless like Oddball_E8. [ April 30, 2003, 08:23 AM: Message edited by: Lou2000 ]
  22. Thanks Battlefront ! Hmmmm now what to do with my original copy when the new one turns up ? Sell it on ebay as a very rare, limited edition ! or Start a Strategy guide, first edition owners club ! An example to other companies of how customer support should be done !!
  23. No chance ......I'll have my copy long before Christmas !!
