  1. wow..... these brings back memory...i remember my earliest strategy game: - Balance of Power. what is really interesting is that the author chris crawford has released this game into the public domain... check out http://www.erasmatazz.com/free.html my first wargame was "Patton Strikes Back" on the PC. Didn't understand it at all...but left an indelible impression on me. one question is: was Patton Strikes Back ever released on the Mac platform ? laxx
  2. hi, I am playing a 1941 june scenario and i noticed that the H-39 Hotchkiss, Renault R-35, Somua S-35 all have the same textures, ie. you can't tell from the picture which tank it belongs to. my question: are they the same tank ? is this a game bug or is this a feature (ie. too difficult to have separate bmp). btw, i am using 1.01. patch cmbb, international. laxx
  3. jack, that wasn't a train, that was a King Tiger.
  4. this is true: - when there is a company-wide town hall meeting, and i am responding to this forum secretly behind the cubicle. - when i wake up 6 hours after the last game the previous nite and doing a review of the games and what lessons can be learnt from them. (eg. KV-1 is deadly). - when my son takes an interest in tanks because of my incessant playing of cmbb. laxx

  6. well, any US magazine which i can buy from a newstand in singapore is, IMHO, mainstream... laxx
  7. umm.... another point of view.... Spoiler alert of The Iron Road Block ------------------------------------ This scenario is largely on 1 kv thank vs the more than 10 AFVs: Panzer IIs, IIIs, SPs, 38s, 88 flak(s) and numerous half-tracks, and probably a couple of platoons with anti-tank capabilities. My lone KV-1s at 900m killed off 9 AFVs when the game ended at turn 20+. so, maybe at close quarters, the russkies may panic, but at 900 meters, my KV-1 ruled. My tank hunter team was not even activated. laxx ps. i like "the matrix of fear", good term... [ November 24, 2002, 09:22 PM: Message edited by: laxx ]
  8. Hi, I was pleasantly surprised to see an inside cover advert on CMBB in this month's WWII magazine, it is quite timely since the issued covered the war in Stalingrad. A couple of comments though: - BFC mite want to consider separating the CMBB advert with the rest of the other excellent products. And possibly allocate more screen-shots on the game. The two screen captures were tanks but may not reflect the WEGO aspect of the screen, perhaps include different vies (battlefield level map etc). - It would be great to also include the platforms supported (Wintel and Mac). There is hardly any WWII wargames for the Mac, and this could be a selling point. overall, glad to see BFC advertising CMBB, I see it as CMBB going mainstream laxx

  10. hi, any chance of downloading this without being a paid member on gamespot ? laxx
  11. nah...that's so yesterday.... do it the autoshow style.... with race queens... except with camos and wearing "Panzerwurfmine" t-shirts.... [ November 20, 2002, 04:26 AM: Message edited by: laxx ]
  12. actually, i have not seen any references of that in the manuals. do you have the link to this ? thanks laxx
  13. answer#1:actually, if you are ordered to advance a field when you know motars, artillery and MGs are waiting for you in an ambush position, would you still advance ? answer#2: smoke the likely LOS source positions. and make a dash across the fields.
  14. * great job * *humor on* When i saw the faces (especially the 3rd left german), Full Monty came to mind. Did you body-switched the entire Full Monty crew into CMBB...bwahahahaha! Now, perhaps the russian troops can shout "YMCA" before they do a human wave. *humor off* I definitely downloading this.
  15. My funniest moment is in the demo, the russian platoon commander surrendered, his troops (behind him) didn't and started to withdraw. My german troops fired at the fleeing troops and shot the russian commander instead. He died. (pretty much emulates real life) [ November 19, 2002, 08:41 PM: Message edited by: laxx ]
  16. Hi, I think generally everybody agrees that CMBB is more challenging than CMBO. For a lot of newbies (me included), the learning curve is steep, i tend to play lots of custom scenarios (rather than QB or cd scenarios), so that I can test out tactics, especially engagement types or offensive types when skill, knowledge of terrain, troops are an important mix. My feature request is this: Is it possible for "No Fog of War" to prevent the AI from knowing my troop positions ? In other words, I know where the enemy is but the AI does not ? current NFOW is very equitable, and AI is usually smart enuff to exploit my troop positions. This will be a great tool for newbie wargamers in single-player games. There is a chinese proverb by Sun-Tze which is very applicable here : "Zhi Zi Zhi Pi, Bai Zhan Bai Shen" Know yourself, know your enemy, a hundred battles, a hundred success. Of coss, this feature is for training purposes. and gradually, the user "upgrades" all the way to Extreme FOW as his grog prides gets the better of him. laxx [ November 19, 2002, 08:50 PM: Message edited by: laxx ]
  17. for mac users: - I doan really like to bring my CMBB cdrom everywhere on my notebook. slows things down and too precious to lose the cd-rom. - instead, i created a diskimage using Os9 diskcopy so that everytime i want to play cmbb, i mount the disk image and click on the installed game to play. - i have *not* tested cmbb directly from the cd-rom image, but technically it can work if you create the image with "R/W", so that new games are saved in that image. of course, you have to create disk allowances for mods, games etc.
  18. Head Machone, actually, i would rather have t-34s than Panzer III in 1941 when barbarossa started. Some key points on t-34s: - Fast Speed - poor turret - poor optics - lots of ammo - decent guns - no radio - hatch down when engaging enemy (all russian tanks) the Panzer III 37mm long nose can't successfully penetrate the frontal armor of the t-34, at best you will get a rare kill status. we did some test in the tips and tricks forum where we tested 1941 german vs russian tanks. the conclusion *i* have is that german tanks were out-gunned by the t34s/kv-1 in 1941. in mid-1942 did the Panzer IVs have decent 75mm long nose models to go up against the russian tanks. laxx [ November 19, 2002, 08:04 PM: Message edited by: laxx ]
  19. this is definitely off-topic. an observation, so far in the last 12 years, only iraq and russia gassed people, and limited to its own countryfolks. ironic.
  20. fytinghellfish, your self-confidence borders on arrogance. citadel isn't too hard actually....
  21. finally, some good recognition for CMBB. but i found the review a little too generic, ie. it was more of a highlevel overview than a detailed review. maybe it is just me, but since i got CMBO/CMBB, i have become alot of meticulous with details.
  22. hi, i like to use flame throwers as part of a 3 person team (tank hunters, sharpshoots, ft) as an anti-tank squad. Sharpshooters to force hatch down on the tanks, tank hunters to kill the tank. Flamethrowers as backup weapon. I have also killed t-34s with Flamethrowers at close range.
  23. corn is nice, but sunflowers rulez! almost surreal, doan ya think ?
