  1. I agree with everyone in that it's really bad ND, and I have no personal interest in it, other than I found it interesting. Given NK is a closed society the amount of info out is anemic. I'd love any sites you find if you ever dig around, good or bad. I find a lot of things interesting. Main goal was to try and see if NK was a realistic red force w/o China. I am not convinced SK couldn't prevail w/o our intervention. We have had the opportunity to field 3 of the top 5 tanks in the world (not my ranking), the other 2 are in Israel and South Korea. We have Russia to play with in Afghan, and Russian equipment in SF. So SK And Allies Blue vs NK and China Red present the most interesting game IMHO outside of Israel. If there was any hope for the Merkava, I'd campaign for that as well The game play possibilities of a Transport and Tank mechanics on the same vehicle in Sf......well I can always day dream.
  2. I had a chance to read the article, and what I could dissect I found interesting. It's filled with, in my opinion, gross over-estimations. I had to dismiss most of his analysis, which was large chunks of the article. I didn't come away thinking he fabricated anything, more his interpretation of the facts was wrong. I couldn't tell when this was written either, based off one of the quotes it's after 2003. But while he might be way off on his assessment, it is an assessment of NK military strength in this decade, which is hard to find in depth. The numbers seem to be within the spectrum of high and low estimations I have found, which gives me some measure of confidence in the numbers I have been unable to compare. This is what I took away as valuable. Interesting development in regards to China included in the leaked documents, china communicating it doesn't object to a unified Korea under SK rule. While I detest the leak, there were a lot of interesting nuggets of info, this being #1 IMHO. What China says and what it does are 2 different beasts though. And while great news as an American (and one concerned about SK), this is terrible news as a SF fan hoping to command Black Panthers.
  3. Based on the response from those who read far more than I did, I was prepared to accept I found the one crazy who would take the time to make up a bunch of tedious figures. But I think we have to separate out crazy blame after reading Normal Dudes post again. 1. Han Ho Suk, Director for Korean Affairs - is the Author and not the domain. 2. T he guy who owns the domain and posted Han Ho Suk's article is Jeff Rense Jeff Rense is bat$%$T crazy Gotta separate out the two before reading the piece. You also have to give a bit of slack to grammatical errors on a document either translated from Korean post-release. Ot doing so, was a huge knock on it and one reason I was going to pass. But I did a bit of searching on the Author, and the article, and enough people picked, a few analyzed it (The one by a Korean War Vet Pilot). That gave it enough legs, for me at least, and I was looking forward to reading it. Now filtering out his personal rhetoric editorials and analysis, and there is enough data in there to warrant an in depth read. There were quite a few things I recognized off the top of my head as spot on or close enough to be in the ball game. That along with the amount of spots picked this up, and its reportedly in a legit publication is enoug,h for me. Saved for later had to cut short for tonight.
  4. Doh! I skimmed from production to artillary, and the breakdown looked really promising. I am more disappointed that it's bogus data more than posting a bad source to be honest. I accept wiki now-a-days as a valid reference for forum chatter. I was looking forward to reading it tonight. Still I think Korea is good back drop as it gives a viable premise for Chinese in SF. Anyone have a good source on current NK military capabilities? Apart from that one site, which is apparently the same as asking my 6 year old instead, I haven't found anything beyond rough estimates, and general info.
  5. Hrm it's quite possible that I am totally remembering wrong (highly probable). Was sure till you posted stoex, and am leaning towards my memory being suspect. I'll check old saves just to confirm. I checked a couple of my saves in my German campaign and loaded up an old save of that poem I mentioned, and only my rifle squads who have launchers at the start of the mission have launchers or ammo. I don't know of a past game I haven't taken launchers or ammo in deployment. I spend a lot of time digging out ammo and weapons from transports. Is it possible we are getting Dutch and German transports mixed up? One other NATO army uses panzerfausts, and IIRC launchers as well as ammo are in transports.
  6. I know that for maurders there was no launcher in 1.3, I am playing Germans in a MP game with a boat load of marders. IIRC in the German campaign, I don't remember ever grabbing a launcher, though I do remember reloading rockits from Marders. So I don't think this is a new issue unless there were changes in the other vehicles.
  7. Well drats, my hopes for a one off game in the PTO just got more remote ah well. Given the lead time and if the tid bit released is an actual hint and instead of us hoping it was, when will the setting for SF II be set? And does the availability of military data effect which countries are viable for the CM line? I have been reading a lot more about NK recently (RL + SF), and stumbled across this http://www.rense.com/general37/nkorr.htm It was very interesting for both reasons mentioned above ( thx btw for letting the NK discussion continue). IDK how much data is needed for a nation to be a candidate for modern era CM games, if there is enough floating on the net or not about Chinese or NK militaries and was curious about the process.
  8. Ah that does make sense. Never considered that one. Thanks.
  9. The south asked journalists to leave as they can't guarantee their safety. That is a pretty serious announcement. China has agreed ton try to contain the situation but issued warnings of their own to not stray too close during the exercises. China has an interest in Kim and son stay in power, but I'm not sure what is more important. A buffer state, or economic reasons. They are concerned about refugees, but the supply a lot of goods to NK, enough to cripple the military and ensure sanctions won't do much. Does anyone have more insight to why forcing NK hasn't been an option in the past and why it's been important to remain allied for the Chinese?
  10. Under what situation is it normal for squads or vehicles to lose radios or FBC2 equipment, not counting splitting, casualties, or damage from fire? When squads lost radios from exiting vehicles that was a bug, and I just wanted to make sure there are situations where this is normal.
  11. They JUST gave us 1.31. Not sure its fair to be asking for ETA on issues yet.
  12. For those who split, how do you handle c2? Do you keep your HQs within visual or shouting range of your teams? Spotting is horrid at elite if you are out of c2.
  13. A great read, I am really looking forward to the next one
  14. All my 1.3 PBEMs loaded with no issues either. Ran 7/8 games fine, last one should be tested tonight.
  15. Any considerations with current PBEM or saved games?
  16. LOL I was just trying to convince my wife 2 minutes ago to let me get rid of my collection. I can't stand the hobby aspect of it, but rolling dice is a ton of fun. I am so glad I didn't get into Flames of War like I was about to before my break from TT a year or so ago. Anyone wants into Games Workshop TT, I'm your man till I find someone with $1k and want everything I have =)
  17. I'd love dull way points showing when Toggle show all move paths is active. Also hit dismount a lot when unbuttoning. This can lead to issues when you don't catch it in time during a PBEM game. I know I can change this myself but the next game I'd appreciate default setup to have dismount moved away from any other hotkey.
  18. Yessir. I'd sign right up for that exercise. Any RL tactics that are applicable to SF tutorials would be appreciated as well. IDK why but I found it much easier to apply real tactics to CMx1 games, probably due to the lower lethality level of the weapons. I have stopped really trying in CMx2, subscribing to the plaster any place a RPG/ATGM might be philosophy to date. You noticed this already. Although real opponents have changed my thinking quite a bit.
  19. I didn't like Arma at all. The inaction to action ratio plus the action itself didn't nterest me and I will play most shooters for a couple days at least. I'll give 9th company a whirl tho thx.
  20. I don't see that big of a difference between survivors of building collapses due to accumulated dmg, and survivors of any type of direct arty hit collapse and subsequent hits. And it could be me but walled rooftops seem to offer really good protection for suppressed troops vs airbursts. I could be way off tho.
  21. Chinese reaction to our going in Iraq style to NK could not be anticipated ahead of time. And any type of deployment would be see as the first shot by NK. It would be messy from jump street. The pulse I got back from the group that went to NK from the time they spent with brass and govt officials across the board was an attack by the west was immenent. Apparently there is always a new sign (there were members who had been in past delegations). The Neon sign of this trip was the Axis of Evil. The fact that worked in any way still makes me laugh. Anyhow I am as biased towards the south as any American. I have family there, granted in-laws but still.....and I just don't see a win in any kind of way here for the south or the US short or long term. IMHO we need to stop planning wars w.o Russia and China. They both have stakes in every potential war we have been looking at. Our current partners can't sustain the current conflicts.
  22. I hope he comes back..... And the Airport scene was one of the best moments in video games as far as wtf moments even better than crawling out of the helicopter (that was intense...for a game) in CoD. That would have been really cool situation to play in CMSF, too bad your scenario was never to be =( <--- understood as sad around the world meater
  23. Wow I read this thread a couple times as it was a good OP and I didn't come away with that lol.
  24. A) SK can't move without us If we overtly attack China we have no idea what they would do, but imho without any shooting, they can hurt us more and know it. C) No one really understands NK, they have been indoctrinated like you couldn't believe. I have a video of NK 4 year old kids doing this dance for a delegation my parents were in, in NK. Anyone who has kids has seen a performance by 4 year olds. Theres always one digging his nose, one kid doing his own thing, and the rest butchering the song with zusto. This was something way way different. Every kid did the dance and song perfectly with this creepy prema-smile while a room full of military guys glared at em. Was off. We don't understand the region at all. In all honesty I don't think Americans understand America. But bottom line is SK can't move without our permission, we can't move on NK without Chinese approval.
