I'd go and re-buy the full CMSF package right now if I could get it as a one stop installer with the base game and all modules all patched right up and ready to go.

Does anyone know the name of this map? I assume it's one of the QB maps but I can't seem to find it. -
New CMAK Scenarios on the SD!!!!!!!!!!
Egan replied to Mad Russian's topic in Combat Mission: Afrika Korps
Thanks for the heads up Panther, off to grab them now! -
Yes, its out. I bought mine in GAME in Glasgow about two weeks ago now. They had plenty of them and i can't imagine they have sold out yet. I haven't seen it anywhere else, though.
-
I think I actually prefer CMAK to BB. There may be less extremely powerful units than in the last game but i don't think it makes it any less fun. One of the reasons I like CMAK more is that one of my fathers friends who died recently was the intelligence officer of the 5th Seaforth Highlanders,( Part of the Highland Division,) and wrote a book called 'Battalion,' about the fighting he was involved in. The game will give me a chance to recreate some of the battles out of it. On top of this i think there is something about commanding British troops that I like more than eastern front stuff. Believe me, there are a LOT of interesting battles that can be recreated.

The sound in CMAK is great, really crisp. the sound of a hidden MG42 sudenly opening up on your infantry is still one of the most scary things aound! I agree, the BAR sound is fantastic!

I was much the same at first, thinking that as I didn't know as much about the Eastern front I probably wouldn't enjoy the game as much as CMBO. Boy, was I wrong! Since before I got the game I started reading a fair bit about it all and I think there is a certain terrible romantisism about the Eastern front,It's difficult to read accounts of Stalingrad, for example, without thinking something of the bravery of ordinary men an woman living and fighting in conditions that can truly be called horrific. For me, I have gained more and more respect for those who fought and died in this war since buying the game. I even have a better understanding of the war in this theatre since buying it, and I thinks thats something pretty special for a computer game.

Best/most kills for a single unit?
Egan replied to BulletRat's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
An SS PanzerGrenadier squad of mine had a count of 86 infantry casualties. I've often seen MGs with twice that number of 'kills'. -
Worst friendly fire incidents in CMBB

I got an FO to bring down a barrage of heavy mortars on a spot out of los. I didn't even notice at first they were falling on a company of mine that were massing for an assualt. lost about a platoon and had other freaked out before i knew it. still, I learned to be a damn sight more careful about handling arty after that so i guess it was worth it! -

Engine rewrite .. single player mode

I would love to see some sort of AI scripting, even if it's no more detailed than" go down that road, not that one." Just think of the possbilities! -
Great idea! if it get ported over d'ya think BFC could fix it so you get a health pack for every platoon of elite gaurds you waste. maybe witrh a cheery " Boing!" sound when you pick it up.

August in North region: Extremely Cold?
Egan replied to edgars's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
I don't think the ground state makes a difference for troops digging in. What sort of battle is it because I think you can only dig in during a QB if your defending against an attack or assault force but not for probe or ME? -
I think most of it has already been said.. 1: Relative spotting 2: I think dynamic lighting would be kinda cool 3: More terrain types and doodads, like more building types, fountains and haystacks, that sort of nonsense. 4: Improved AI (although i'd imagine this is a given anyway,) and last of all, a campaign system of some sort.
-
Yup. I've seen this too. I figured at first that it was incoming fire but it weren't. I don't think it's a bug though. Actually, I kinda like it.

I had an infantry company one time that got one hell of a shellacking from russian heavy mortars . the withdraw command was the only thing that saved them from getting slaughtered. I only ended up with three units getting routed which i thought was acceptable considering i couldn't affords to lose a full company. used at the right time, like all other commands, it can be invaluable. the thing is to know when to use it.

I love the camera too, especially being able to rotate around a unit. The changes, i think, just make the game that little bit better to control.

Schoerner's CMBB Waffengrenadier Patch

Actually, the loader still works fine with me post patch, I think it's because it doesn't actually hack the exe but does something clever instead( ) -
Operation designers, please help me ...
Egan replied to Nolloff's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
During an operation, any reinforcements you get are placed sort of in the middle of the rear area of your set up zone, it's not actually possible as far as i'm aware to set exactly where you want them to arrive, (like you would in a normal scenario.) -
Ah! Thanks guys, I had never seen the term Landser before, I thought it was some sort of eastern front thing. On the subject of the SS, I don't think they were ever part of the regular army were they? I remember reading that Himmler retained control of the Entire SS - Waffen or not. There was a big bit in the the book " Order of the Deathshead," about this..? it suggests that although they basically acted and worked with regular army they still came under Himmler's control. Actually, there is a bit in the same book which talks about Himmlers SS fantasy. He decided that after the war was over he would create an SS state in Burgandy and rule over it. He wanted to recreate the sort of mini kingdoms that had been created by the tuetonic knights and suchlike. I had never heard this before, He was A total nutter! I've just been reading 'The forgotten soldier,' by Guy Seger,(I think that's his name,) and he keeps describing himself and the army in general as 'Landser,' Does anyone know what this meens and can anyone tell me what the difference is between Wermacht, Heer and Landser? is it just a term used on the eastern front as i've never seen it anywhere else before? Inquiring minds want to know!

I qoute Mager Winters from Band of Brothers," The point is, you have to keep MOVING". Oh yeah, and covering fire, covering fire and more covering fire!

I don't think it is anything to do with the patch as I had it before I patched it.

James Coburn (Cross of Iron) R.I.P.
Egan replied to Tiger's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
Amen. As an actor, I think he was the last of a certain kind. RIP -
I'd like to be able to use the operation level " battalion reserves," etc in normal battles, I'd prefer this quite often to the normal reinforment selection, so rather than having reinforcements appear on a regular basis you would only get them if you neaded them badly. it would certainly be a useful option to have anyway.
