  1. I tried this last night and from what I can tell thankfully all is well . It appears that once France fell the control of those resources most probably switched to UK and the strengths were still shown by the last value prior to French capitulation, i.e. ports still at 10 in your case. What happens next (internally) is Germany/Axis collect for the resources they control and then supply is recalculated for both sides (unit supply as well as resource strength/efficiency according to the game rules). So at the beginning of the Allied turn the resources are at their proper levels 5 and 5 and correct for when the Allies collect their income at the end of their turn. Hubert Edit: I tried this a second time under TCP/IP and I now see what you were referring to, it does show the port on the Axis side with an incorrect value but the correct values are shown on the Allied side. It still performs the correct calculations at the right time for both sides but I'll have to double check why it posts the incorrect value for the Axis (observation) turn. Edit: Ok figured it out, everything was fine I just forgot to have it update the screen with the new resource values, thanks! [ April 14, 2003, 12:37 PM: Message edited by: Hubert Cater ]
  2. Agreed, the overall situation for the UK during Sealion has not changed. If you are facing this you are definitly in trouble but the improved supply situation will help but not necessarily bring you victory. Hubert
  3. Correct, this will still be possible, although without taking London (and it's supply source), the Axis will have a much tougher time on the ground taking out the UK. A prolonged battle for Manchester and/or London increases the likelyhood of US and USSR entry which may also not a good thing. This is correct as well, the overall idea with the supply changes is to make the games more interesting in these situations but provide penalties for both sides at the same time. In both cases, limited supply and the usual slowdown of an offensive as a result for the Axis, while for the Allies the inability to build/organize new units (a similution of a breakdown of the command and control for having the leadership cutoff). Once the capital falls the leadership is usually reorganized to a new location and command and control is re-established. Is it a fair and balanced penalty for both sides? Not really , but I think this is as it should be Hubert
  4. What version are you running? The version number can be seen in the bottom right hand corner of the MAIN MENU screen, from your post it sounds like you might still be running v1.0 as this was a known issue. If so I would suggest downloading the latest SC release patch v1.06 found here: http://www.battlefront.com/downloads.html Hope this helps, Hubert
  5. Correct, the idea was to help England in the same way that the USSR was helped via the 3 city supply system (Moscow, Stalingrad, Sverdlovsk) so that even if London was cutoff other remaining cities/units could draw supply from Manchester at 10. Should make Sea-Lion more interesting for both sides and riskier for the Germans if they do not capture London quickly (they need supply as well) since although the UK can no longer build it's remaining units will still be in good supply and max reinforcement. Hubert
  6. Not a bug, part of the design. As you noticed in your tech post it is more or less to allow for a secondary supply source but not for production. I'll answer the tech question in more detail. Hubert
  7. Took a look at your medal mod, it's really nice Not sure if I'll have the chance to make the change you propose but I'll take a quick look and see what's involved. Hubert
  8. As a unexpected surprise/service we are releasing (with limited fanfare) the current beta version of the SC 1.07 patch to the public. This Beta patch is for the full version of SC only. This patch is being offered AS IS so you should be sure and backup your copy of SC before applying the patch. The patch is just over 3 megs in size. It includes a new executable and some new BMP files. The purpose of this beta release to the public is to test the listed fixes (see below) and ensure no major lingering resolvable issues remain. Once we have confirmed that, patch 1.07 will be released as a full (non-beta) patch. If you encounter issues with this patch related to the listed fixes below please post to this thread detailing what you see. If need be I will reply to the message and possibly request pictures or a save game file which demonstrates the issue. BE ADVISED, there will not be any other new features to 1.07 so please refrain from asking for new stuff, rather we just want people to look over the patch and confirm that what we say is fixed is fixed. [smile] Patch: ftp://ftp.battlefront.com/pub/patches/stratcom/sc_patch107beta.exe Note: This patch announcement is intentionally being kept low key. Once the final 1.07 is released more widescale announcements will be made. Consider this the Mother of All Bones for our Forum Regulars... >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> > Strategic Command: European Theater Public Beta README Since this release is a PUBLIC BETA release it is STRONGLY suggested you backup your current SC.exe file before applying this patch! To install this self extracting patch just doubleclick the sc_patch107beta.exe file. The file defaults to install into C:\Program Files\Strategic Command. If that path is not correct you may browse to the current Strategic Command game directory. The patch will automatically extract and copy over the old files. Changes Made For v1.07 (June 9, 2003) - fixed Vichy France surrender issue after Paris falls - fixed rare port control issue after the surrender of a country - fixed DirectX compatability bug with newer Video Card drivers, newer drivers didn't like the previous implementation of DirectX within SC, caused some flickering/blackouts when traversing through various game screens/menus - fixed Carrier intercept bug, defensive bonuses no longer affect losses - fixed country surrender bug that would not recognize enemy unit control of resources like ports etc., i.e. should remain in enemy control instead of automatically being assigned to conquerer (as noticed by allied players after the fall of France) - fixed sub spotting bug during AI and TCP/IP games - fixed MPP bug for Usa and Italy when they are declared war upon, previous bidding would be overwritten - fixed strength of Soviet Shaumyan Cruiser for Barbarossa, corrected to start at 10 - Yugoslavian Coup now has a greater link to Axis actions taken against Greece, can still happen if Greece not invaded but less likely - US interest in war tweaked to also take into greater account attacks on Portugal and Iraq on top of the previous settings for Vichy, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland - Spain tweaked to react to an Allied invasion of Portugal, may now join Axis - slightly higher disinterest for US war entry when Allies attack neutral minors - changed income for minors once either Germany or UK fall, minors will still collect for any remaining resources available - added a 2 city supply system for the UK (London and Manchester) similar to 3 city supply system added in v1.06 for the USSR, counters gamey cutoff of London during Sea Lion [ June 24, 2003, 01:10 PM: Message edited by: Hubert Cater ]
  9. It is recommended that all new SC players read through this thread as it should answer most if not all of your questions. While this top post contains some general SC FAQ, subsequent posts deal mostly with popular suggestions/ideas for future versions of SC. Please feel free to add any missing FAQ info to this thread as I will make necessary updates and any futher suggestions/ideas are always welcome. General What is Strategic Command - European Theater? 10. With the potential to get a little off topic as it relates to SC I'm going to move this to the General Discussion Forum, thanks! Hubert
  11. Could be related to a firewall or perhaps your ISP. If you haven't already, I would suggest taking a look at the 'TCP/IP Quick How To Guide.txt' located in your SC installation directory, it might give you some info towards the problem. Hope this helps, Hubert
  12. KDG, This was actually intentional and added to represent extended reporting abilities. Hubert
  13. xwormwood, yes this is a known issue that sometimes occurs on the win9x/ME platform but not a problem on windows 2000/XP. Apparently a difference in the early 9x/ME kernel with how it deals with some programmable windows and memory not easily discernable or trackable but fixed in the newer 2000/XP kernel Hubert
  14. My best answer to date can be found here http://www.battlefront.com/cgi-bin/bbs/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=18;t=002156
  15. JerseyJohn, Thanks for your post, and I realize now that I HAVE been a little quiet lately as to what direction I will be taking with SC2. The question of whether or not you are on the right track is a valid one and the only honest answer I can give at the moment is unfortunately 'yes' and 'no' Right now is still a little early for me to say what the right direction is, something I hope to clarify somewhat in the next few months, but believe me when I say that this is still a good thing. I think some of the recent ideas, and this includes ideas going all the way back to last July since months seem to pass like days for me , are fantastic and even though SC is my first commercial game most of the ideas do match my style very well, i.e. where there is a great attempt to balance the "what-if"'s within a quasi historical basis/limits. Believe me there are many threads currently bookmarked in my browser and some of them are REALLY good, but at the same time I honestly don't want to exclude any of them while at the same time strongly commit to any of them. Game design is a long and drawn out process and often you don't really know what you'll get until you have the final product. SC was a game I thought about for 10 years and worked on for about 2 and even then while the basic framwork remained, some ideas were tweaked or scrapped altogether when shown they simply would not work well in the final product. While my answer may appear to be somewhat disparaging, it is the best answer I can give. Am I frustrated with the recent suggestion threads? Absolutely not, I think I'm a very lucky developer due in large part to the content of these forums. I think the best answer I can give right now is leave it up to you guys to decide whether or not you wish to continue to post ideas/suggestions but at the same time hope you understand that they do not fall on deaf ears even if I often do not respond to them on a regualr basis. Some may see the light of day in the next game, some in the future or some not at all, but either way I think the next game will be that much better because of them. To give you a better idea of where I currently am, believe it or not SC1 still occupies a good portion of my time, it sometimes is unbelievable the amount of work that goes into all sides of developing and supporting a game, something I am still learning but can probably be appreciated when you are a company of one person, and don't even get me started on the challenges involved on eliminating some of the technical limitations in the current game engine. (Hint, Hint) Long story short, I'm still here, I'm always listening and appreciate all of your patience in any delays or general time it will take before the next game will be released or even announced for that matter Hubert
  16. Ok this might be DirectX related, but since the game is backward compatible and able to run without DirectX, try running it with the line 'directx = 0' instead of 'directx = 1' in your 'SC.ini' file. The 'SC.ini' file can be found in your SC installation directory. Hope this helps, Hubert
  17. Hi Dulak, Couple of questions, what version of SC did you have before you installed the latest patch, i.e. 1.0, 1.01 etc? Also what is your system information, and are you running on a laptop etc? This will help me track it down for you. Thanks, Hubert
  18. This might be a sound issue, try setting the line 'sound interrupt = 0' to 'sound interrupt = 1' in your SC.ini file. This file can be found in your SC installation directory. Hope this helps, Hubert
  19. The problem here might be that the TCPIP folder is not created until you actually play or attempt to retrieve a TCPIP game within SC. You can either do the above or simply create a folder named 'Tcpip' in your SC installation directory to drop the PBEM game into. Hope this helps, Hubert
  20. Thanks for the offer, but I'll have to pass unfortunately. Hubert [ February 21, 2003, 10:28 AM: Message edited by: Hubert Cater ]
  21. Glad to hear that you are enjoying the game! The sound issue you have encountered is known issue on some systems that do not allow asynchronous wav file playback. Locate the file called 'SC.ini', it will be located in your Strategic Command installation folder and change the line 'sound interrupt = 0' to 'sound interrupt = 1'. This should solve the issue for you. If you have any further Tech issues please do not hesitate to post to the Strategic Command Tech Support Forum found here: http://www.battlefront.com/cgi-bin/bbs/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=forum;f=22 Hubert

  23. Moving this to the General Discussion Forums... just kidding Edit: Just took a quick look at the list myself and have to agree that this is a really nice collection for anyone interested in the Eastern Front, might just have to add a few of these books to my own bookshelf  Hubert [ February 18, 2003, 06:01 PM: Message edited by: Hubert Cater ]
