Questions on Norway / Sweden
Hubert Cater replied to Iron Ranger's topic in Strategic Command Tech Support Forum
1) This is due to the proximity of Sweden through to Denmark, almost a land bridge which allows for greater supply flow under the existing supply rules 2) This is part of the surprise attack mechanism in the game engine, they will respond on the second turn if they still exist and their strength is sufficient Hubert -
Socket Question
Hubert Cater replied to Konstantin V. Kotelnikov's topic in Strategic Command Tech Support Forum
Not really sure you need to change anything in terms of ports, as far as I understand the port will either be accessible or not depending upon if you can see each other's computers over the net. Sounds like he might not be able to host due to his firewall/LAN, can you host and he connects to you instead? Also if you haven't done so already I would suggest reading through the 'TCP/IP QUICK HOW TO GUIDE.txt' found in the SC installation directory for further details on setting up TCP/IP and potential issues with firewalls etc. You can check if you are able to see his computer at all and vice versa by trying to 'ping' each other, if the pings are unsuccessful then it is definitly a network issue. Pinging can be done by opening up a CMD or DOS Prompt and typing: ping xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx where the x's represent the IP number. Hope this helps, Hubert -
Socket Question
Hubert Cater replied to Konstantin V. Kotelnikov's topic in Strategic Command Tech Support Forum
Just to clarify, you want to change the TCP port from 6530 to 6305? If that is the case it cannot be done in the game as 6530 is hardwired into the code Hubert -
Ok it's officially a bug, something for everyone to keep in mind I guess Hubert

I'm confused, from the JPEG it looks to be the Allied turn. The problem is that I cannot reproduce the exact situation you have displayed there, i.e. sub in that hex with the Corps in Halifax, so question remains was there an Airfleet or Carrier that would have been within spotting range and then moved on this same turn, this might be something to mislead you into thinking it was the Corps that has spotted the sub. I only ask since I cannot tell what has happened on this turn. If you can reproduce it, i.e. with only that sub and Corps and tell me exactly how to do it, it will help me track it down. Anyone else have this problem? Hubert

Strange... what version is this under, I just tried it with v1.06 and could not reproduce it, albeit I was using Hotseat mode with FoW. Difficult for me to tell from the picture but was there an Allied carrier in the area that had just moved or perhaps an Air Fleet or Bomber etc.? Hubert

Mistakes were made, apologies sent and accepted, despite this there were reactions during and after yesterday's incident was concluded. I am asking that everyone just cool off as much as possible. Enjoy the game, feel free to post your strategies, tips, comments, criticisms etc., but let's keep it within the realm of SC. If this cannot be respected please take it outside via private email or use the General Discussion Forums, that's what it's there for. Nothing personal but with that being said I will be locking this and other similar threads up. Hubert

Obviously I am not about to condone this and think it unfortunate since I believe this is the point with Battlefront providing demos for all games, and if I may point out it is something that not all publishers do for their game community Anyways, glad to hear from everyone who has bought and enjoyed the game, and as I believe Cruzzer's initial question has been answered I am going to lock this one up. URL Image Postings -- How is it done?
Hubert Cater replied to JerseyJohn's topic in Strategic Command Tech Support Forum
I just write text as per normal and then click on the URL button where the label for UBB Code exists. I fill in the URL, i.e. the exact link where the image resides on the web, notice that when you click on URL it already gives you the 'http://' portion of the full URL you will be using so in some cases you will have to remove the extraneous 'http://'. Then you will be asked to give the URL Web Page a name and that should be it, should appear something like the URL link below. Let me know if this works for you Test Image Hubert [ January 09, 2003, 10:38 AM: Message edited by: Hubert Cater ] -
Can this game be played TCP/IP?
Hubert Cater replied to Gaylord Focker's topic in Strategic Command 1
When playing TCP/IP just hit the the letter "T" and you will be able to chat. I would also suggest taking a look at the "TCPIP Quick How To.txt" that is included with the v1.06 patch. It can be found in your installation directory and has many other helpful tips when running the TCP/IP option Hope this helps, Hubert -
Despite the fact honest mistakes were made I think the degeneration into "name calling" is unfair and out of line. Either way as this thread has moved beyond SC-Tactics I am going to lock this one up. Hubert

Not quite, the point of the new research system was to slow it down entirely to get to the next level using the 5->4->3->2->1 system. The inclusion of the spying based on enemy research was to quicken the gap when lagging behind but otherwise no difference if you are ahead or at the same level. Take a look at the samples again and you'll see what I mean. Hubert

I only read this far and noticed the above assumption is incorrect and may affect the rest of your tests/text below, you will have to let me know. Basically the Restriction: highest enemy level - current level > 0 needs to be considered. I believe I wrote it as >= 0 in the Update Notes but it should be > 0. In this case the restriction fails so the highest enemy level in the formula will be assigned a 0 value and thus each chit will be 1% chance instead. I realize now that the first example I used for the new formula uses Level-0 for both your enemy and yourself so the example ends up a little misleading. Sorry about that Hubert

I too just took a better look at both the '39 and '40 campaigns and must say that they look really good. I think these will go a long way towards balancing out any apparent Axis bias remaining with v1.06. Great job Bill! Hubert

Original point and responses excluded the last post is way off topic and not related to SC, moving to the General Forums... Hubert [ January 06, 2003, 12:41 AM: Message edited by: Hubert Cater ]

Wanted to post this here as well, there is a typo for Axis Victory Conditions, it should read (in logic form): NOT Germany surrendered AND NOT Italy surrendered AND NOT France liberated by Allies AND (London occupied by Axis OR Moscow occupied by Axis OR (Stalingrad occupied by Axis AND Leningrad occupied by Axis)) Hope this helps, Hubert

Video issue with the demo
Hubert Cater replied to CraigH's topic in Strategic Command Tech Support Forum
Sounds like there might be another application that is also wants main control while SC is running, might be why when SC wants to open a new window it is behaving as it does. You could see what other applications are running at the same time and if you have any that *like* to be the TOP window sort of thing. I would also try setting the line 'directx = 0' in your SC.ini file to see if that helps as it may be a DirectX problem. The SC.ini file can be found in your Strategic Command installation directory. Let me know if this helps, Hubert -
Video Problem!!
Hubert Cater replied to Codename Condor's topic in Strategic Command Tech Support Forum
You could also try running it with the line 'directx = 0' to see if that helps, might be a DirectX related problem but no way to tell from my end. Hubert P.S. Thanks for covering for me Bill! -
If you directly apply the patch over any of the latest versions it should work Ok, not sure if you have also used MOD's for the in game graphics as this for whatever reason seems to cause some problems. If this is the case, I would try re-installing from the CD and then re-applying the patch right after that before applying any graphics MOD's Hope this helps, Hubert
