  1. May I suggest lots of shoot and scoot? Havent played the scenario but from the sound of it shoot and scoot with all your tanks ont he ridgeline for a few turn. Wait till they are most likley out of AT rounds, then push over the ridge.
  2. I'm also under the impression that the brits improved their 2pdr ammo (capped it to help defeat FHA) during the african campaign which could lead to some discrepency here.

  4. There are no tacks on the tank - its been dragged there and used for target practice.
  5. I always drive my infantry suicidly close (so my Lt's tell) to to my artillery when attacking, and the only times I hit my own troops is via an outlying shot (which happens), or my own stupid fault. I've never seen what you are describing occur in any sort of replicable manner.
  6. So be prepared for gamey biatch accusations if your crews are attached to infantry platoons and used on the front line.
  7. "What is even more puzzling though is that even using the figures in the game a Sherman should not be able to knock out a Panther with a front shot except for the occasional weak point (which seems to happen more often than it should)." I'm afraid you are wrong, the above report says cannot penetrate the glacis, "17 pdr APCBC will not penetrate Panther glacis at any range on level ground." That leaves the turret front and lower hull front available for a kill shot from the frontal aspect. Furthermore I think the CMBO penalises late war panzers with a -% armour modifier as quality was not so good at that stage. I think that kicks in from panther G onwards.
  8. FJ's are good if your opponent is unwise enough to allow force mixing, same with girbs, same with VG's really
  9. Omi, the ram is a fantastic 20mm proof APC. Being 20mm proof is very handy in player v player games, as the germans typically have a lot of it. The allied halftracks are not 20mm proof.
  10. My take is they are worth it at veteren level or above. Stuck out on a flank where he can observe a possible enemy axis of advance they are sometimes incredibly useful. I've had 1 guy take out 2 FO teams in 1 round before they'd fired a single shot. You can't beat that for points value. Even if they are not that useful, used carefully they can slow an attack down nicely by picking off HQ and other high-value units. Never use them at close ranges, anything under 2-300m will get him spotted instantly. Left alone, he won't take these shots. CMBO funny moment #37, my sniper runs into an enemy sniper in a forest. Both halt and try to hide, neither taking a shot at each other as they are too close. It's like they both sat down for a cup of tea on the sideline while the battle raged in the middle of the map.
  11. Tres cool, and I imagine such a tank would become a favourite amongst the gamey force crowd.
  12. It sounds like you have force type set to unrestricted. Try setting it to something else like combined arms, it makes force mixes more realistic.
  13. I'd say the fb is too far away. Thats a big gap you need to cross there, do you have smoke?
  14. It is interesting to note that the bunkers here did not contain AT weaponry as they were built to house 37mm guns. Larger weapons did not fit and they were left outside, easily suppressed by artillery.
  15. WW2O has taken up most of my time for the last year or so. I've got CMBB here but besides playing the odd scenario, I can't get back into it. If only I was unemployed Nippy has some common gripes about ww2o but I think they are generally unfair given the unfinished state of the game and the direction the developers have taken it. The abondoning of historical timelines is due to each side now being able to control its R&D and Production. Therefore, it is possible to produce pieces of kit much earlier in the war than occurred historically. Of course, to do this you must first sacrifice development in other areas. Same goes with production levels, high commands can go for maximum amounts of heavy tanks, but that reduces the numbers of lighter ones considerably. It makes sense to me because it opens up lots of "what-if" scenarios. There are many complaints of "balance" and they are natural considering simulation of the early war's crushing defeats by the axis forces will be very boring if you play allied... ergo, there are many axis players that resent balance, but they are important to the games survival. Terrain isn't complete and there are lots of missing units, but honestly if you look at the game now and compare it to the originally released version you wouldn't even recognise it... and its only getting better. Unfortunately, that means CMBB stays on the shelf for a bit longer, but thems the breaks, I'll be back here one day. If you've looked at ww2o in the past, I recommend checking it out again soon, once "Deployment" is in place. Deployment will mean army groups running around the map instead of loaded spawns at every town, it will make the game very interesting. edit - oh yeah the french have been given US lend lease gear as there is no data for post BoF equipment, aka P40 and the stuart coming soon. 16. It is possible that the zook was IN the building, and the backblast set fire to the walls. I've had this happen to myself at some extremely important moments.
  17. Comes in, looks around. Still going huh? I finished this 2 months ago! Cyas at months end I guess
  18. Ahh, the MkIV, it'll always have a warm place in my heart. One day during a QB I had my last piece of armour, a MKIV, come head to head with 2 105 shermans. The rest of my armour had been killed early by a nasty jabo. Both shermans scored hits from 300 meters on the lower hull. My return fire took out both of his pieces, and proceeded to maul the infantry they were accompanying, tipping the balance in my favour for the rest of the fight. I couldnt' believe my luck. I love the Pz4 now My opponent that day learned some new respect for the old workhorse. [ August 16, 2002, 02:11 AM: Message edited by: Sir Uber General ]
