Just interested, who has had a unit that would deserve a stack of medals for their combat actions that you would like to mention. The weaker the unit, with less experience versus greater number of more seasoned opponents the better... and the unit must have survived to collect their awards Ill start. Regular Fusiler SMG, 41 inf + 1 mortar with no casualties.

The Newbie Tournaments

Ja, my score was 51. The slimy Poles were not interested in visiting my death traps, continually wheeling around trying to avoid me. They just wanted to go home I think! GG IceDog, let me know when you are ready for the next map! -

Im no grog but here is my take based mainly on WW2 Online, which had a lot of grogness research into its making. American sights also use mil-dashes, which you can use determine the range to a target of known size - you cannot however adjust the range of your weapon, you just have to aim higher. You also usually have less zoom which makes target ID over range a lot harder, especially if the nasty kraut is sitting still. Go on, tell me how wrong I am, I know you grogs are dying to -

A New(bie) Age Begins!
Sir Uber General replied to SuperTed's topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)
Only 2 more sleeps until the action starts! Thanks again for putting this on SuperTed BTW, what sort of fights are these going to be? Attack/Defend or ME? You are also hinting at some very interesting force makeup... flamethrower wars perhaps? I hope I didnt just waste all my luck... just played Armoured Ambush (nice map) as brits - took out out 5 tigers, 2 nashorns and 3 guns for the loss of 1 Firefly, 2 Stuarts, 2 half tracks and a carrier, maybe my best exchange rate ever on the attack Fingers crossed I get that lucky when the fun begins for real! -

So our forces are going to be pre purchased? Intersting! This will be a short lived experience for many of us newbs then, finding out that unit x sucks vs unit y for the first time The comp starts Saturday... YOUR time Sunday for me I am amazed at the number of newbs this game has, even after being released so along ago. When I load CMBO up at LANs I always get people looking over my shoulder going "wow whats that?" 'Tis a shame CMOB does not get the publicity it deserves Let the newbfest begin! Allied use of Schutzenplatte?
Sir Uber General replied to Ogadai's topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)
I have read that the russians used similair wire netting which the allies mistakenly believed were bed springs. According to an interview I have read with a russian tanker they werent, they were custom wire nets just like the allies used. I have seen photos as well, definately not bed springs. -
Gun crew re-mans gun between ops battles?
Sir Uber General replied to Juju's topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)
I have been doing some reading about a Russian AT gun crew. They do indeed bail out on their guns pretty quick once they have been spotted by armour. In set defensive situations however they only use 2 men to man the gun (loader, gunner) and the other 4 as close, covered, security, armed with submachine guns and rifles. Would be a nice feature to have! It would a) cut down on injuries when under fire from armour as there are only 1 or 2 exposed crew members at any time and be useful for the crew to be able to defend themselves if they are flanked by infantry. The story I was reading also mentioned grape shot for anti-infantry close defence. Nasty stuff. Any chance of that getting into CMBB? Awesome for infantry ambush -

Gun crew re-mans gun between ops battles?
Sir Uber General replied to Juju's topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)
It is understandable that gun crews flee once there position comes under intense fire. What I find irritating is they often run into a bit of cover near an officer (for combat bonus yum yum) and recover from their fright. Then the AFV or whatever beat up on them is destroyed, and the gun position is now clear of fire and the gun itself is not KO'd, yet the wimpy bastards wont go back and re-man it. Especially if they break with very light or no casusalties, it kinda erks me, even more so if the officer they flee towards and come under c+c of is say the company or battalion commander. In real life I bet he would be pissed. Is this gun crew behavior realistic? SUG [ 11-18-2001: Message edited by: Sir Uber General ]
-
I really wish that at the end of a battle in the AAR accurate casualty figures / stats would be given for all units, including aircraft and arty. It is very difficult to get a feel for the effectivenes of your tactics when you are not told how effective they are! I know IRL that you cant get those figures, but at the end of the day, its not real life I completely agree with not knowing those figures during a battle or between battles in an operation however. Cheers S.U.G.

Help destroying tanks with infantry
Sir Uber General replied to l3w53r's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
I have personally found Allied engineers do a good job at taking out Axis armour. Maybe I'm just lucky, but I have found that 1-3 demo charges always does the trick. I guess luck is a skill all of its own [ 10-31-2001: Message edited by: Sir Uber General ]
-
Firstly, forgive me if this is dumb - I've only played the demo and this is my first post here A good argument for having all levels available would be because you may have a large green/cpnscript force taking on a small crack force, no? As I said, forgive me if that is dumb, I don't completely understand the context of the issue, I dont know if you select a level and it effects BOTH sides or just one side. Yours, SUG
