1. Does anyone happen to know where i can get some good reguaar British uniform mods? I downloaded some good Commonwealth uniform mods, but now my British uniforms are dark brown.
 2. I think dead vehicles burning or not should also block line of site. If some soldiers are hidden behind a knocked out tank in the street and it happens to not be on fire, why would the opposing forces suddenly be able to see thru a tank that is not made out of plexi-glass?
 3. TCP/IP is the best way to go. I do not like time turns though. It's fun to watch what view what happens during a turn a couple times. The last timed game i played i did'nt enjoy as much as the non timed. I was the British and the attacker, i had 20 turns on a medium map to force my enemy out of his dug in territory, wait it gets better, it was a 1500 point map, so me being the attacker i eneded up with 1700 or 1800 to sepnd on units. Here is the good part, the game was set on 300 second turns. My opponent did not have to do much moving around being on defense, where i had to think of a plan move units, check line of site and coordinate attacks all in a 300 second time frame, i had no time to replay a turn or anything. I won the battle, it went to turn 20 and i came away with a minor victory, if it was a 25 turn game i wwould have had a total victory. Though i impressed myself and i'm sure my opponent, the non timed games are alot more enjoyable and i won't play a timed game.
 4. My bad, for some reason i thought i had version 1.02. Thanks.
 5.
quote:
Originally posted by Goanna: Broke out the old Iron Maiden albums this weekend I see Persephone? What the hell is a Persephone by the way?

In greek mythology Persephone was basicly mother natures daughter who made a bad deal with Hades. 6 months out of the year Persephone is forced to sit at the side of the greek god of the dead, and when this happens her mother becomes so sad sge neglects the earth and thats when winter occurs. Upon Persephones return, her mother is over joyed and the flowers begin to bloom.(spring) This is how the ancient greeks explained the changing of the seasons.
 6. All that did was create the 1.05 patch folder in my cmbbo folder, i'm still on 1.12.
 7. How do i install the 1.05 update? i am currntly running version 1.02.
 8. Even though the germans were outnumbered, it does not mean that experienced troops were extinct by 1944. Yes, the battle of attrition with the reds did inflict massive causalties and whole armies were destroyed on both sides...... But, on the eastern front, soldiery was learned at an excelerated rate from the other theaters. Green german soldiers shipped in to bolseter the defense of Minsc in 1944, would gain much experienc if they managed to survive and retreat from the battle. The russians had far more green squads then the germans, far more squads in general as well too might i add. The Russians suffered the most casualites of the war. Between Zhukov marching his own armies dirctly thru extensive mine fields, on purpous to save the time it would have taken engineers to clear them, and the Germans themselves inflicitng massive casualties upon the red army, it's safe to say that russian squads saw lots of fresh new faces from week to week. The Red Armies high command had little regard for the lives of their men as long as they susained a surplus of man power. Stalingrad for example, the red army was taking horrible losses, but they could win a battle of attristion with the 6th army even if they were taking higher losses, the average life span of a Russian soldier in the cauldren was 24 hours.
 9.
quote:
Originally posted by Big Time Software: Jason, Dale hit the nail on the head, and by accident so did you The point of bringing up Dan's Marder incident was to show Redwolf the fatal flaw in his request for "fragile" stuff to get a break in terms of victory points. He made an assumption that fragile stuff always dies and dies without scoring significant kills. That is the only way to justify some sort of special treatment. But the experiences of many (with FTs, Marders, HTs, etc.) is that if they are used correctly and wisely they can be very effective. A victory point break for the Marder, in this example, would have been amounted to a penalty for the Soviet player if the Marder was even knocked out. And that is simply not fair, especially after it killed 3/5ths of a much more expensive armored force. Steve

I agree, for some reason i always score alot of kills with Marders. I fare better with Marders then i do with Tigers, i used to get careless with the heavier vehicles.
 10.
quote:
Originally posted by JasonC: I hate to break it to him, but the Marder was the first German AFV to sport a long 75, and as such it is the upgunned German AFV, the "super shooter", in the example given. And the only one that can deal with heavies (even T-34s, let alone KVs) at range. A comparable case on the western front would be 2 Sherman 75s and 1 Jackson facing German heavies. Nobody would say there was anything remarkable about the Jackson getting the kills and the Shermans taking the beating. In 1942, there is nothing "paltry" about the Marder - it is the strongest anti-tank shooter in the German AFV arsenal.

The Tiger had arrived by 1942, i would say that was the best german anti-tank shooter. The marder is nothing but an over-glorified panzerjaeger. They finaly got the concept right with the Nashorn.
 11. No, but mabe there could be a chnce for some game hunting to feed famished soldiers, i can see it now......a hungry smg squad open firing on some elk, wait mabe thats not such a good idea after all.
 12.
quote:
Originally posted by Big Time Software: Hehe... this just popped up in a thread on Rarity which is currently going on. It was posted by KwazyDog (an employee of ours if anybody is not aware ) to illustrate something not relevant to this thread. However, read on... KwazyDog wrote: Ack!! Cripes, what the heck is wrong with this picture?!? Not only does KwazyDog buy something which is totally useless in terms of acheiving victory, based on the overpriced overprice he paid, but he actually used the thing instead of parking it in the rear as soon as he saw those big nasty KV-Is! The guy is completely stupid, obviously, and has no hope of winning this or any other ladder game. Oh wait... uhmm... I see that he killed 3 out of 4 of those KV-1s while losing his two nearly top of the line turreted tanks. Gee... that doesn't make any sense since it would imply that skill and luck has more to do with victory than the purchase price. But... but... that just doesn't make sense! Sorry for the sarcasim, but this is exactly why I have been arguing so strongly against point breaks for "fragile" units. In this battle KwazyDog got way more than his point value out of that Marder III and, incidentally, lost his two "better" and more "correctly" priced tanks in the process. So why on Earth should we take away victory points from the Soviet player in the event of the last KV-1 (or something else) knocked out that Marder? That is what a "fragility" discount would do. It double rewards a good player at the expense of the other guy. Totally unfair and totally not going into CMBB Steve [ 01-20-2002: Message edited by: Big Time Software ]

I could'nt agree more, i'm glad BTS has chosen not to cater to the at the moment less skilled players. Forget about the prices and concentrate more on your strategies.
 13. Not only does this post represent some ideas for and about CMBB, but also serves as the triumphant return of everyones favorite messege board chef....(pauses for applause)..................30 minuits later..... The question i pose is simple, how will and what will the improvements be for damage modeling in CMBB be modeled? Let me say here that i have viewed the screen shots that included some nice pictures of a battle in progress. (*see the screen shot of the SU-85's driving thu snow with some large explosions in the background.*) I must admit i was impressed with the look of the vehicles. They looked much more authentic and actualy gave the look of a machine that had been used for longer then an hour. The skies looked beautiful, the trees were much improved, along with everything else visible in those screen shots. Everything looked great, and i was pleased to seem some added shrapnel and debris filling the air. Everything looked great in freeze frame stillness. Will everything look just as good moving around? I would be as impressed as i was happy if this were to be. I will list off some of what i think would be great additions in the upcoming sequel. 1.) Improved modeling of housing. For example, when a tiger turns it's turret towards a small house with cowering Soviet forces inside, will the shell penetration be modeled? It would be great if shells could knock down walls, shatter glass, collapse roofs ect.. This would also serve as a better way to judge when to withdraw from a building almost as instictive as it would be for the acutal squad itself. Not to mention it would harken back to the glory days of X-Com where everything was modeled and everything could be destroyed. This was usualy a good thing to avoid, but it added a whole new dimension to the game and it is close attnetion to detail like that wich seperate the many great games from the classics. (I consider CMBO a classic.) 2.) Heavy Machine gun crews with a will to live. I am aware this topic has been debated to death but i felt it had to be added. It's safe to say we've all stared in disbeleif or utter contempt as yet another well placed machine gun nest fell victim to bravado and selfless acts of multiple platoons "storming the gates" and shoving that MG-42 right up.....ok you get my point.-nuff said. 3.) Anti tank guns that do not have a p.a system to yell and taunt the opposing battle group giving away thier postion to the whole of the oppostion force after knocking out an AFV. Anti-tank gun ambushes were among the most deadly situations to tank crews from either side. Layers upon layers of men, mines and 76.2mm anti tank guns along with dug in tanks themselves were the stake in wich the axis implaled themselves upon during Operation Zitedelle. Speaking of tanks i'd like to add that the KV-2 was one of the most impotent AFV's of the war. Stop getting excited about them, but alas that is for another topic. 4.) Snipers. Marksmen are great, but why not add snipers? I'm not talking about fictional propaganda effectiveness like in that charming love story that was Enemy at the Gates, but combat trained and effective snipers is all. I beleive this would add a whole new element of danger to the reality of street fighting. This combined with improved machine gunners, would without a doubt make everyone think twice about blindly crossing a street. 5.) Cossaks. The germans did indeed let some of the Ukranians fight for them, and thank heavens not anywhere near the number who would have gladly volunteered. 6.) Civillians. Yes i said it....and i do not believe even the grogiest of the grogs has ever brought this up. Unfortunatly not all of the cities towns and landscapes were evacuated in time before a siege. I beleive civillains should be modeled. Before anyone thinks i'm sadistic or anything i must bring up that this has been modeled in pc games before. In fact, X-Com, and X-Com Apocolypse, both classic games, modeled civilians, and yes they were indeed very mortal. Civiilians had thier place in the game, you were supposed to protect them, you lost mission points if any died by your hands or by the aliens. IF you caught the mall on fire, (think ghostbusters) not only did you have to worry about your squads saftey, but also the civilians, they could catch on fire and perish quite easily. This in turn added realism, but not only that, added a whole new level of tactical combat to the game. 7.) Playing dead. The russians were so eronyius in their quest to kill nazis that if it meant there own end so be it. (some not all) Mabe having half squads lie down and play dead, only to pop up and shoot their enemy in the back later could be included? As a side note, if this would be incorperated into the game, the Axis would haveot have the option of shooting at "corpses". Again the tactical effect would be on ammunition and one extra thing for the opposing player to have to consider. 8.) Ammunition stockpiles. I think the defender, depending of course on the circumstances should have more ammunition then the attacker. (only under the right circumstances, i know this was not always the case.) This should not be modeled in a way where the squads simply have more ammo on them, but some buidling, bunkers ect. should have the ammo where squads can reload, and resupply themselves if not in the building where it is located themselves. These should include cases of grenades as well, that could be used liberly if need be, or serve as a bane if suddenly the case is ignited by one of the enemies many fragmentation devises. 9.) Vehicle damage. Put some holes in the tanks, some oil on the ground, some broken tracks and some dented turrets. Show us where the the shell hit, crumple some metal ect...i'm not talking anything extreme like turrets getting blown off or tank being tossed 20ft into the air like paper wieghts and landing on thier roofs, that is not within the game engine i understand, but some little added touches could add a great deal to the game. 10.) Do not get offended, CMBO is a classic and CMBB is going to be a great game regardless. I'm not meaning to sound like an arm chair programmer or developer, i understand how much work it is, and time is always fleeting.
 14. Hehe, well you guys asked for it, my next post is going to be long, drawn out, and in my own words, i can't say when or wich topic it will show up in, but rest assured it will come to be.
 15. Not only was the T-34 numerous, but in 1940 it was also the best tank design in the world. If the Panzer V is arguably the best medium tank of the war, the T-34 should share in the honors. Many of the great features of the Panther were ispired by the T-34. Some of the stregths of the T-34 go as follows.... 1) Incredible power to weight ratio for it's time. It carried a 500hp engine while other AFV's averged in around 100-200hp engines. 2) Awesome mobility over nearly any type of terrain. This was due thanks in part to wide tracks, the christie suspension, with a powerful engine; most other afv's of the time had narrow tracks. During the winter battles of 1941 where the T-34 gave the germans a nasty wake up call, the german infantry called the T-34 the "Snow King" because of the tanks abillity to operate in all weather conditions. 3) Great armor protection and armor design. The T-34 had sloping armor long before any other countries tank designers began to incorporate it, wich also allowed the tank to save some weight. 4) Great armament. At the time of it's debut on the battlefield, most other AFV's were equipped with 37mm and 50mm main guns. The T-34 was armed with a good medium velocity 76.2mm gun. The early T-34 was not without it's problems though. Thw crew compartment was cramped. Communications proved to be a big problem as the T-34 was competly inferior to the systems used by the german AFV's.(the germans defeated Soviet amored units despite the fact that they were often horrnedously outnumbers due to superior communications hand in hand with superior tactics.) The transmission of these ealry model T-34's was also a problem as it was prone to breakdowns. The 2 man turret lowered the combat effectiveness of the vehicle due to slowing down it's rate of fire. The German PanzerIII and IV had a 3 man turret and a higher rate of fire. Despite all of this, the early T-34 was almost and utterly too much for the germans to handle. In the first year of fighting on the eastern front the biggest threats to theb T-34's (in order of severity) go as follows.... 1) Air attack( aka Ju-87 attacks) 2) Direct fire from the 8.8cm FlaK 18/36. 3) Heavy artillery. (immobolizing the T-34 made it much less of a threat.) 4) A close range hit from a PanzerIII or anit tank gun to the rear or side armor. 5.) Close assualt by german infantry. ( learning to kill the T-34 without anti-tank guns was where the german infantry honed thier skills and became the best tank killers of the war.)
 16. I love it when people desperatly try to make a last minuit rush for the flag. Desperate attacks usualy end up in a bad way.
 17. The Soviets caputred their share of scientists, and actualy made better use of the technology intitialy, by being the first into space, first satalite launched inot orbit...ect.. We did'nt realy over take them until we put a man on the moon, in 1969.
 18. The panzer IVD looks awsome! Do they take long to do? i could use some decorations for my computer desk.
 19. Sounds like a good idea to me. CMBB is going to be a classic i think. It's funny how alot of gamers see war games are boring, drab or bland, yet the war games(thanks to CMBO) are and have been the most innovative genre. I mean how many years have they been recycling age of empires? perfect example is galactc battle grounds, it's nothing but a poor age of empire mod that makes units into star wars graphics that do the same thing. I don't like RTS games, but you'd think they would have at least improved them for the people that do enjoy them.

 21.
quote:
Originally posted by Kingfish: Question: Since Sharpshooters in CM represent the best shot of a unit, wouldn't it make sense to always have the Sharpshooter equal or higher in experience to the other line infantry of his unit? It seems to me that if a defending commander has enough time to lay mines, scout terrain, deploy field pieces, plot TRPs and call in reinforcements, then he surely has enough time to pick the most experienced guy under his command, hand him the scoped rifle and tell him where to hide. Your thoughts?

The sharpshooter could be of the same experience level as another squad, but the sharp shooter would still have a better shot. Even if a sharp shooter is of less experience then another squad, chances are, he'll be more accurate, it's just that he may have the jitters causing him to reload at a slower rate, and have a tendency to seek saftey much sooner. THe in experience may also lead to not being very proficient at hiding, and things of that nature. But never the less, he will still be more accurate then the average rifleman when he finaly takes aim and fires.
 22. If you give him his screen name back, whats from stopping him from literly "losing" it again? I vote he keeps his current screen name........"gay slut" or whatever it is.
