  4. I'll print one of for you, no probs (might cost you a pint though! )
  5. Wasn't there a Canadian VC winner who stopped three Panthers with a PIAT?
  6. Given the pedigree of CM I reckon PIATs will get the full treatment, if not in the Commonwealth module, surely in the Market Garden one.... From Wikipedia page on Robert Henry Cain VC (Oosterbeek Perimeter) On the afternoon of Thursday 21st two tanks approached Cain's position. Guided by a colleague in the building above him, Cain waited in a trench until the first tank—actually a StuG III self-propelled gun (SPG)[28]—was close enough to engage.[29] The SPG fired at the building, killing Cain's colleague and showering him with masonry but despite this, Cain kept his position.[29] Staff Sergeant Richard Long of the Glider Pilot Regiment remembered that through the clouds of dust, Cain fired round after round from his PIAT until the SPG was disabled,[26] but whilst engaging the second tank a round exploded in the PIAT with a bright flash and Cain was thrown backwards.[26] Cain recalled thinking he was blind and "shouting like a hooligan. I shouted to somebody to get onto the PIAT because there was another tank behind. I blubbered and yelled and used some very colourful language. They dragged me off to the aid post."[30] The British brought forward one of the Light Regiment's 75mm guns which blew the tank apart Not exactly a ringing endorsement!
  7. Everything that happened on those beaches and getting off them could be represented; bombardments, wire, mines, obstacles, the escarpments, marsh, trenches, foxholes, bunkers, the valleys/ draws leading of the beaches, engineers, AFVs. It's all in. As for the actual surf, you'll have to use your imagination because 'Charles don't surf!'
  8. Interesting stuff.. This has certainly opened my eyes a bit (and almost certainly saved me from humiliation at some point it the future). In terms of depth CMBN is looking like the Mariana Trench... Just a quick question....How will special ammo type(s) be handled such as PzGr.40 /42 (German), APCR (British) and HVAP (US)? Will they be abstracted or appear in the load-out for each vehicle? Cheers for the AAR.. Keep 'em coming...
  9. At last!! Already have a week off booked for Easter..sweet...now I just have to prepare excuses to explain why I'm not gonna leave the house for a week.. PBEM anyone?
  10. Would be happy to oblige just for Barkmann's Corner!! PM me where to.

  12. Massive thanks to Other Means for hosting the preview. The six hours went in a flash... I'll post again later when I'm a bit less pushed for time, but just to say... It's awesome!
  13. Cheers, Am in Rigby's now.... How do you spot a CM player?
  14. @ Para and Vincere...ain't irony a bitch! Nice one Other Means, If you go ahead with it count me in and if you need a hand with anything just ask.
  15. add one more..... My money is going straight to BFC. Sorry CDV, you had your chance
  16. From the link above it says the Special Reserve price is £27.99 and that this is a saving of £12. So it looks like the UK RRP is going to be £39.99.... as of 2002.09.04 16:51:28 GMT. 39.99 GBP United Kingdom Pounds = 62.6065 USD United States Dollars 1 GBP = 1.56555 USD 1 USD = 0.638751 GBP The game is going to be $62 off-the-shelf in the UK, compared to ordering it from BFC for $45 & PP, for those outside CDVland. Mmmmm......time to move to a different continent I think..
  17. New Soviet secret weapon? First there were the mine dogs, then came the killer bees........
  18. I think the tripods are hard-coded in CMBO, I guess it's the same in CMBB.... [ September 01, 2002, 11:34 PM: Message edited by: Kilgore ]
  19. SD, The road mod is a keeper I've often thought there was something missing from the paved roads, but couldn't quite put my quite put my finger on what it was.... Now I know Thanks a million...
  20. The CDV website can be quite difficult to navigate around, and has conflicting information on it. It seems that the Euro version of CMBB (CM2  ) will be relaesed later than in the US. Press release from the CDV website; 22.08.2002 Combat Mission 2 – How’s the weather today? Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin will hit the shelves this October! Will you be ready by then? If yes, you will need some warm clothes! Everyone who is searching for his comrades: there is a link on the official preview site from CDV to the English forums. It will also, by the way, be very substantial to know that the nicely used weather effects will be either debilitating or beneficial in the game too... On a different note I think Goanna (above) has an intersting point. It does seem that the marketing for the game in Europe is going to be different to BFC's.... Here's the preceeding CDV press release concerning CMBB; 15.08.2002 Combat Mission 2 When playing Combat Mission 2, you will be introduced to an extensive variety of detailed vehicles and combat units, in more than fifty vast missions and operations. The photo realistic appearances of the units are down to the fact that they have been modelled from their real counterparts from the second world war – details were noted with authenticity in mind. In some missions you will have to face the Russian army, which although enormous in size at the time, was mainly made up of farmers. These farmers were basically in good physical shape, but completely unskilled in the art of war. ...and the one preceeding that; 07.08.2002 Combat Mission 2 - Preview Screens The American Developers, Battlefront.com, have excelled themselves! Combat Mission 2, CDV's new strategy game, is already at the preview stage. Players will be able to find solutions and choose strategies that were engineered in World War 2. The units in the game behave just like their real-life counterparts. For example, the Panther unit is a mighty vehicle with heavy-duty armour. But the engineers who designed it expected a frontal attack and left the tank susceptible for sneaky attacks from the rear! I don't know if the BFC "brand" is going to suffer as result of this though. From this website; Battlefront.com's mission is to provide the challenging military minded computer gaming experience that has all but disappeared from the face of corporate gaming today. Our goal is to serve gamers, rebuild our community, and breathe some life back into a hobby whose followers are still here in sizable numbers but have been tossed aside by the Industry. Sure, it seems that CDV are casting the net wide as it were, I guess it's to attract as many people to the game as possible. Once these people are introduced to the game, they'll realise it's a quality product and that BFC are a quality outfit, and then become hooked like the rest of us I assume the people at CDV are professionals, and no doubt they know what works best in their respective countries/markets. Of course, none of the above makes any difference to the end product, (it'll sell it itself IMO), but it's going to be interesting to see what other versions of the box/adverts/press releases/previews etc pop-up over the coming weeks...
