  1. Great news! However, Living in the middle of nowhere I do not have access to high debit internet. I only have a dial up at 28.8kbs and downloading 171MB of patch, when I have already downloaded 4 times 50MB+ of previous patches is irritating to say the least!!!! Could I get a 1.05 Patch none inclusive of all previous patches (I have them already) or get a CD instead? Thank you. Check it, I'm a good customer... BigCat
  2. If you expect contact close by, you better stay out of roofs and balconies. However, if the area immediately across is secured, ie you have troops already there, getting a MMG team or a squad in a high floor or a roof is valuable to provide 360° fire support and observation. Artillery or a strike mission within LOS of your FO is going to ruin the day of the other guy. Guaranteed!
  3. I played Abu Susah as Red force and got 5 out of the 8 strykers including the grunts inside, since tha AI didn't attempt to dismount. However, the 3 remaining strykers reached the objective, while I ran out of time maneuvering out of LOS my irregulars on foot and attempting to redeploy the 2 ATGMs in LOS. Given another 5 minutes I would have blasted the last US vehicles. Still the US won the game! In scenarios, Blue force ought to be heavily penalised for any casualties sustained, in order to better balance games and give some hope to be able to win to the red player. Most games, I have played so far (about half the scens included in the CD), have been a cake walk even with infantry dismounted and behaving erratically as they did before 1.03. OK, the US firepower is always going to be difficult to contend with, so only special rules when designing a scenario about US losses will allow a red victory now and then.
  4. I'd like to add one thing to this excellent topic. If you are used to play the CM1 games, in this one watch out where the door is of the building you wish to enter! Because your grunts are going to go merrily all around to find it with the results you might expect
  5. I bought each CM games from the day they were published. Each had their infancy problems and this one is no exception. Hell no! This is going to keep the guys at BFC at the office till very late for a long while... BUT I JUST LOVE IT! Guys just get it right quick, will you? PS: I have, so far, got no money for the good word just in case anyone inquired
  6. Actually HARPOON has time compression and it is the only RTS title I have ever played pass the DEMO (although I haven't played the newly released HARPOON for windows, only the old title). Fast track to move to the battlezone, then slow to 5s or even 1s to be able to control individual units, such as a flight of bombers or a ship. Another nice feature is the ability to open several windows around different parts of the map you wish to watch and zoom in or out as required. This way you can see all significant actions at once. I don't expect to see any of that here....pity. :-(
  7. There are always people prepared to accept anything. I am not one of them. Thank you ComradeP for your understanding. I'll wait till the demo is released and make my own judgement. CMC,CM2,TOW and a couple more Demos from other publishers. That will occupy me awhile, I expect, whenever they come out, that is The winner(s) will be the one(s) with most of what I want.
  8. Rare? No not rare. It's people like me who keep alive games like SP, ASL and CM. I know most of the players are just in to have fun. But next year they'll play something else with the latest pixel shader. Me, and my bretheren, would like to see a war simulator, with as many "realist" details as possible within a computer sim. We always hope at the announcement of a new title. SP was the best 2D and CM the best 3D, so far. They are still played by thousands because of the OOB tweaks and graphics mods (even partial rewrite of the source!) given freely by the communauty. Will TOW be played in 10 years time? it's up to you...
  9. I noticed a few things in the AAR, which troubled an old grognard like me: 1) Markings: vehicles seemed to be marked in a very strange way. No white cross, as used in the Polish camp. and numbers which should represent company and platoon position, but obviously were not. Polish tanks had nothing I could see. 2) Back packs. Let me say only that soldiers for assault missions leave their backpack at the assembly area. They move faster that way... 3) no support fire. A German Squad (in German "Gruppe") but not a "Group" in English (that's something else), is constituted of a leader, a LMG team and a number of Riflemen headed by the second in command. Normal tactics would be to have a tactical movement consisting in having the LMG providing fire support, then the riflemen stop while the LMG catch up, and so on. This seems to have happened only on order from the player. So much for actual AI tactics used by each Army. I dread to think how the 1940 French are going to be depicted!!! 4) I am joining here others who have already noted the un-historical nature of the formations and the fact that prepared positions are just a couple of trenches. Sorry guys, when making a wargame you have to watch this details if you going to try to convince people like me.
  10. To come back to the thread title, and seeing that CMx2 will be a "Near Future" US vs Syria in 2007, BFC HAS TO release it before the end of the year. I can see it arriving nicely in time for XMas. I have already written to the old bearded guy to reserve me a copy )
  11. Sorry, I don't. I need to finish my own campaign before starting on another one. So not from me either! Stratege will allow to create any campaign using any kind of game engine. Version 2 will allow for combined ops.
  12. Hello I'm the umpire of Tigers versus Bears a campaign using CMBB as game engine. Just to say that I am writting a Strategic level program to handle larger battles. This will keep log on all the details I find extremely difficult to deal with in my campaign and allow the players to give orders in a CM fashion rather than send written orders, which I know they hate to do. Still the umpire will have to prepare battle files etc...However, if CM2 would at last allow for transfer of troops across maps, that would become quite easy! My program is called Stratege Campaign Headquarters. Contact me for details, if you are interested. And I am looking for an umpire assistant on the Soviet side! Any volunteer just step forward and yell! Thank you!
  13. If you have not emailed me or Rough, you haven't been considered. If you have emailed me AND I did not get back to you, my apologies, it's been hectic! Last Chance: EMAIL ME NOW
  14. Being French, I am in the same situation. I have already pre ordered my US version. Cdv doesn't even have CMBB listed yet! As far as I know CDV will have CMBB in English, French, German and maybe even other languages. As far any other differences than those listed I know none.
