Of course CMBO is a closed book, so this question is rather feckless, however, I must persist: As much as I love the Daimler Mark I AC, its 2 pounder (40mm) is clearly useless against infantry (especially given its pure AP loadout in CMBO). Its single BESA co-axial MG gets overworked to death in tight spots. I understand that these cars were not designed to engage infantry for prolonged periods... However, the Humber Scout Car (Armed with a Bren or 2) and the Daimler were obviously not the only AFVs that British Reconnaissance and Armoured Car regiments used after Normandy. I realize that a finite number of vehicles could make it into CMBO. The 'mericans and the Krauts each get several ACs that spit HE (and pose more problems to enemy infantry) as well as AP. I gotta whine a bit. So where are the AEC Mark II (armed with a 6 pounder and a 7.62 BESA MG) & AEC Mark III (75mm gun and a BESA MG) Armoured Cars? Does anybody have production figures? Where is the Humber Mark IV AC - with its 37mm gun and coaxial BESA?? Or what of its variant, the Humber AA Mk1, which sported 4 turret mounted BESA 7.62s...?? As well, what became of the Staghound, the American made T17 E1 Armoured Car that fielded a 37mm gun and 3 .30 cal MMGs (or 2 .50 cals), a car that was fairly popular with the Brits IIRC? I guess this must come down to production figures and I respect BTS' decisions for CMBO... but I want some British Armoured Cars with a little wallop! Hmm. Jean Bouchery's unparalleled book, "The British Soldier: From D-Day to VE-Day; Vol.2" states that the Aircraft Machine Gun, Class K (K-Gun, Vickers, Gas Operated), bipod mounted, was issued to the Heavy Troops Royal Marines as well as units of the Army Commandos. He claims that its use with a bipod replaced the .303 Vickers, Water Cooled - in certain units. Bouchery provides a b&w picture of a smiling (bipod quite visible, weapon resting on his shoulder) "K" gunner advancing with his unit of the Army Commandos, having just landed at Normandy (Riva Bella), '44. Each man in this particular Commando section, the author says, was carrying 2 magazines for the K gun. A smaller picture illustrates the round magazine pouches that were attached to standard webbing in much the same manner as the long, Bren magazine pouches. My simplistic reasoning leads me to believe that enough units were issued bipod mounted K guns for these round magazine pouches to be issued. Obviously, until we revisit the Western Front & the Mediterranean/North Africa - nobody cares about the Vickers K.

Well, to toss in the ole tuppence: In his excellent volume, "For King & Country: British Airborne Uniforms, Insignia & Equipment in World War II"(a veritable Red Devil Bible if ya don't already know), Harlan Glenn states that the MRC (Medical Research Council) Body Armour was "issued as an 'available extra' for the battle of Arnhem. It was worn by the Poles, Glider Pilots and Recce Squadron Drivers, and was usually worn underneath the Denison and over the Battle Dress." From the color photos, it looks to have been frequently 'blancoed'. He writes that the Body Armour was largely experimental and, though it was developed in 1941, didn't see any widespread usage 'til Market Garden. As well, it was intended to be worn under the BD, but was understandably more comfortable worn outside, as was most often the case. I can understand why the body armour didn't make into CMBO, but, the real Commonwealth gripe still remains: Where in blazes is the jeep mounted Vickers "K" gun? The Vickers "K" was designated an 'aviation type' machine gun and had a ROF of 950 rounds/minute versus the 500 rounds/min that the standard water cooled Vickers kicked out. Twin pintle mounted on a Willys MB for maximum "gamey recon"!!! [ February 16, 2002, 12:12 AM: Message edited by: Fairbairn-Sykes Trench Knife ]

that's Bataan. And from what I read, it did a hell of a lot more than clog some troll's arteries. Harvard Law? More like "barnyard maw". -
did we really have great generals?

quote:
Originally posted by Mr. Johnson--: I find it very interesting looking at how much the Americans learned from the Germans after WW2.

Agreed. Just take a look at the current American helmet design. Strikingly similar to the Wehrmacht's famous "coal scuttle" shape. -

I was trying to say I like your mod. Excuse me for not communicating that. I guess you've already decided I'm a pedantic wussy bastard swine anyway, and that's fine - I'll lose no sleep. If you're not worried about tiny details, why put out a detailed mod or revise the skin tones? I was just noting that the Wolfenstein Uniforms you aped have a really dark, almost theatrically sinister martial quality, because of the nature of that game...and it comes off cool in CM.
quote:
Originally posted by Captain Wacky: Hehe I'll fix it good.

So 5061 is the Gebirgstruppen arm, right? Did you put an Eidelweiss on it or is the 5061 in your "Arm" zip meant to be the same arm as the Heer (with skin tone modifications)? Not a big deal, just curious because I was thinking that you were planning to throw the Gebirg's patch on instead of the eagle... The Oak Leaf Dot Camo works nicely, by the way. A bit darker and more sinister than some of the Oak leaf smocks out there...

quote:
Originally posted by StellarRat: There is a chance you have hit some game limitation since you admit your map is "mammoth"

The map I'm discussing here is actually of a "small-to-medium" size. Some of the others on which I've noticed this occurence are larger...however this map is fairly small. I don't think it's a unit limit because this is a small village with moderately heavy trees. Battalion of Wehrmacht and some HTs attack a reinforced company of Red Devils with extra mortars and 2 Vickers MGs & jeeps. Also, I've tried saving and rebooting. The buildings are there in the editor but not in the preview/gameplay.

Pardon me if this has been recently discussed. I've owned CM for over a year and designed some mammoth maps, but this is a new one. In several recent scenarios, buildings I have placed in the map editor (and double-checked) do not appear in the Preview or during gameplay. Like 10 minutes ago... I placed several tall heavy buildings near some dirt roads and roads through pines (map contains moderate/heavy trees and less than 25 other buildings). Force strength is less than a battalion for both sides. I then went into the scenario editor's preview and noted that the buildings were not there at all. Moving a unit into the spot the buildings were supposed to occupy, i noted the terrain description read "open ground". Wha??! Then I placed some more "dirt roads through pines" and previewed again... The tiles appeared as the "dirt road through open ground" tiles. Blue & White Mac G3 / OS 9.1 / 400Mhz Thanks.
