  1. I'm just looking for someone to host my Maquis mod... i converted a jeep into a bicycle (complete with handlebar basket filled with baguette & Sten gun hidden under fruit). then i gave the Free French squads (warning: conflicts with US troops' BMP #'s) black cable-knit turtleneck sweaters, cigarettes and berets. mod-sluts: email me for a French Resistance zip file.
  2. i'm really diggin' those '44 dogfaces and airborne. i love the rich color selections and that bad-ass attention to detail. your shoulder insignia came out nice an' crisp. i'll outfit my GIs in this stuff as soon as possible... I'm gonna keep buggin' you about those Commonwealth fatigues until i'm placated with screenshots... [ 07-17-2001: Message edited by: Fairbairn-Sykes Trench Knife ]
  3. According to "The Illustrated History of Fallschirmjager in WWII" [Chris McNab/MBI pub.2000]: "...the Allies on Crete knew that the Germans were coming. The Ultra intercepts, their codes broken by equipment at Bletchley Park in England, meant the Allies had not only discovered the dates of the invasion but also the landing destinations. "Freyberg had accurately positioned his troops at the designated drop zones." The points made about shooting men out of the sky are well taken PzKpfw 1, but you cite statistics from >150 meters. However, the Fallschirmjager drop over Crete is the lowest Combat jump on record - jump orders were given inside 250 FEET from the ground. As previously stated, the ACK-ACK fire was extremely fierce. I'd love to use a New Zealand flag in my Maleme scenario, do you have a BMP Mr. Organ? The battle i am working on is the 4 day fight for Rethymnon - where FJR 2 spent several days in an olive oil factory resisting counter attacks from several thousand Australian troops. That's why i wanted an Aussie flag. No disrespect to the Kiwis. Kiwis on Crete [ 07-17-2001: Message edited by: Fairbairn-Sykes Trench Knife ]
  4. and, um, could you guys put Uber-French Resistance fighters and railroad guns and horses and more SMGs (and knife fighting) into that scenario? and maybe an Eva Braun mod?
  5. Yes, yes. i injected a little too much "poetic license" into my simplistic summary of the operation. flame away. however, a hideous storm of anti-aircraft & machinegun fire greeted the FJ, and casualties were indeed taken in the air. the casualties on the ground were so insanely heavy (400 dead out of 600 deployed in the Luftlande Sturm-Regiment alone) because the Allies knew the invasion date and drop zones (British Intelligence Ultra intercepts) ahead of time. Anyway, i'm just a neophyte looking for an Australian victory flag BMP....or a Kiwi one. [ 07-17-2001: Message edited by: Fairbairn-Sykes Trench Knife ]
  6. Operation Merkur: May 1941 - waves of crack Fallschirmjager (22,000 over 9 days) jump over the small Commonwealth garrison on Crete, hoping to seize numerous airfields and a valuable stepping stone to the Ploesti oil fields in Romania. 7000 Australian riflemen, alongside (15,000) British Commandos, Royal Marines and 7700 Kiwi troops, pick off so many German paratroopers (some in the air) that the Hun rarely uses air drops again in the Second World War... "The days of the paratrooper are finished!" - Hitler to General Student after the bloodshed on Crete. Now about that Aussie victory flag mod... i heard that one was floating around here somewhere. it would be a nice touch for these Mediterranean island scenarios i'm working on. Granted, it's a small mod - Aussie Jeff, have you made one? Australian Involvement [ 07-17-2001: Message edited by: Fairbairn-Sykes Trench Knife ]
  7. Australian Victory Flag for Mediterranean Theatre? it's a small mod, i know, but it would be sweet for those epic Digger battles. Aussie Jeff?
  8. Thank you gentlemen. I had seen the mosque mod discussed on the DFDR bulletin board but i did not know if there was a resolution. I have numerous British uniforms, i was just curious about the different shorts i've seen in screen shots. As well, someone had asked about an Australian (victory) flag mod for North African battles involving the Aussies - was that ever made available? Furthermore, I've seen a Commonwealth Sexton mod with South African tactical markings and i'm interested in further Commonwealth mods for the ANZAC/ South African forces in the Med. theatre. My battles on Crete won't be complete without ANZAC gear.
  9. That olive drab jump smock may be the best i've seen yet. Nice ammo belts, roomy cargo pockets and sharp Screamin' Eagle patches. Did i hear you say you were working on some uniforms for the Tommies as well? i'm looking forward to seeing some pics. can't wait to d/l the "Apple Pie Action Pack".
  10. i've asked several modders if they'd consider converting BTS' church into a mosque and have met with little response. i understand that the 3D 'skeletal shape' that the BMP 'skins' are draped over is hard-coded, but after seeing some of the conversions (palm trees, rocks, wadii, pale-packs) in DFDR, i still believe the stock European church can, at the very least, be made to look more Middle Eastern in nature. right now it appears a little too foreign sitting in the middle of Benghazi's market district. perhaps some texture changes (earthier, sand-swept walls) and some different windows/doors would start things off. i know one of the true "mod-ninjas" could pull off a minaret from that bell tower... i'd just like to throw in another building type in my DFDR adventures. Is anybody else interested? As well, does anybody know if there are currently 2 desert shorts mods for the Tommies? it seems like i've seen variations on the British tropical wear. Thanks in Advance.
  11. i'm certain that my sentiments will be echoed many times over, however, i find your site to be the definitive CMBO destination (for the impressive collection of mods as well as the encyclopedic mod list) and i would hate to see it disappear from the scene. i use the resources i want and have no desire to criticize what i personally don't wish to use. i'm sorry that your expenses are becoming a factor in the continued existence of the site, but please don't close up shop... besides, i hope to be downloading CM2 mods from your spot before long.
  12. really nice work. i'm always impressed with your attention to detail (barrel & drainpipe, etc.). i use your water tiles and have used your small heavy buildings in the past. i tend to use combinations of building mods by various artists. you should definitely do some heavy buildings - i'd use 'em. also, i don't know if you play the "Desert Fox Desert Rats" conversion, but i would be interested to see what kind of a mosque you could devise with the church BMPs. furthermore, i'd be curious to see what style of North African buildings you could come up with. just some ideas.
  13. Scipio, i e-mailed you but got no response. i'm still interested in some of the CC2 voices. one could make a nice amalgam of sounds using CM, CC2 & the voices that these Poms are (hopefully) planning to record. thanks.
  14. this thread sinks like concrete shoes. where do the real Limeys stand on this one? maybe all you English cats prefer to play as Waffen SS. i might have to break out my Shure SM-57 (microphone) and scream "Bloody F-ing Hell!" into it if i really want this mod.
  15. how big would the file be (for only the British CCII voices)? how is it organized - in little snippets like the voices in CM? how's the sound quality? i realize i'm one of the few who are interested. i had hoped some of the British members of this forum would have grown weary of the Tommies' stock voices. maybe this detail is too petty for others who regularly play the British troops. anyway, Scipio, i will contact you about the voice files.
  16. nice work, excellent attention to detail. i'm looking forward to setting those "brown" wool tunics on fire with my Churchill Crocs.
  17. hey Scipio, i really enjoy your audio mods (Sounds of Death & German voices especially). i would be interested in hearing the 'Close Combat II' British voices - i don't own the game. i have the necessary tools for conversion - perhaps you could email me some of the CCII sound files - if it isn't too much trouble. thanks for your ideas.
  18. i agree with you Viceroy, a "cocktail" of accents/dialects would really add some flavor to the immersion. i like to get down into the foxholes with my men and see the fight from their perspective, so i hear all their vocalizations and screams of agony. however, i'm not so much asking for a diverse cross- section of accents as i am a batch of new phrases, colloquialisms, and gritty vernacular. anybody?
  19. The Bobby whistle is a nice touch in place of BTS' stock "GO! GO! GO!". Many thanks for the ideas & sounds. However, when my boys of No.9 Commando are carrying out covert operations in the Aegean (or just trying to be stealthy anywhere) i don't want them blowing whistles. I don't know how much interest there is, but I'm thinking that someone with a solid [real] Northumbrian or Cockney (my accent won't cut it) has got to be able to record some voice files that are a bit more coarse, vulgar, off-color and/or just plain roughneck sounding. Something to give my immersion level a kick in the pants. How about some profanity during heavy shellings or some terrified slang when i'm surrounded. I'd really like something meaner sounding to shout at German prisoners. Maybe i should just chill out and concentrate on employing sounder tactics instead of esoteric sound mods... Thanks for your replies.
  20. I've searched almost all of the premier CM sites that offer audio mods and come up empty handed. The closest i've come is a listing of British voice file numbers - courtesy of Mr. Dorosh. The German voice mod that Scipio devised is excellent - perhaps he would create another for those who prefer a Lee Enfield to a K98. i just can't bear to hear "GOR BLIMEY" or "FIYUH ONLY ON MY OHDUH!" for too much longer. Chew on that pineapple, Fritz.
