  1. No idea but after a weeks long bender of booze and women during last weeks 4th of july. It is quite apparent to me that I require a spell checker Gen
  2. I can not remember how many men are in a British Paratroop squad but they have less men than the American unit it could be an abstraction. Say if the brits have 9 men they could be in a more tight pattern at the end of the 2 turns than the american unit which I believe has 11 men. Just a thought. Of course if they both have 11 men then it just has to be because the american troops want the Brits to get to the fight first for obvious reasons Gen
  3. What would we gain from this game being a RTS? I honestly can not think of a single thing. But here are some things that I think why RTS should never makes its way into CM. 1. The realism would be gone. Honestly though I would laugh because anybody playing the AI in a battalion level game would be crying not fair due to the micro management the Computer can do while the human brain can not. This IMHO is the reason this game is turn based. With the wide variety of units, terrain, and LOS. We as humans would require this game to be on the platoon level to make it really fair and manageable. Personally I do not find that appealing. 2. RTS are usually much more simple. You are usually limited to a shortened list of units. Around 20. Each have unit on the opponents side that can take that it out. Gee why is that? Oh ya that is because the game designers decided to build a game that is fair. BTS designed a tactical war simulation around real life data. Most RTSs are based on a player starting with nothing building up forces and then fighting. It is usually a calculated risk on your build plan. I played SC for a few years and it got boring just making it into a click fest. Personally I think this game being a RTS would be a ruin it. Luckily BTS has already stated on many occasion that it will not happen Gen
  4. I was playing the villars-bocage scenario a week ago and decided to have fun. What would happen if Wittman was equipped with IMO the best tank of WWII? The Panther. I found the only real way to beat that damn scenario is to have wittman lay the ground work for the other tanks to deal with the HTs. He was a real killer also. Usually killing 8 HTs and a couple of shermans before going down. I did have him survive once only to have his track knocked off by that damned AT gun in the rear of the town. Kind of fun IMHO Gen
  5. I lost a tiger at 800 meters with a comet in a head on dual last night. Blew the tiger sky high. Looking at the penetration values for the comet I am baffled. Gen
  6. Flat land can be good for ATG duty. just a thought for future reference. Gen
  7. Hummel is a deadly weapon vs Infantry but I find it lacks the ammo for me. Personally I usually would go with the 105 howitzers. But usually in my games I wait for the opponent to grab the flags then blast them into obvlivion Pretty good blast and ROF. Not too expensive. Maybe have 2 105s and a 88flak or Pak\43 and a smaller 50mm AT gun for Armor duty. If you really only need them for supression the 75s are a damn good buy. I am learning more and more that guns are a very deterring factor. I could buy 3 75s, place them around the field and watch in glee as the enemy notices them but cant ID them. Thier armor will never move because they can not tell if it is a deadly Pak gun They waste arty on a 75 or alow thier infantry to come close it to be amushed. I am also having more luck with AT guns. usually killing more armor than my armor Gen
  8. I was playing the mission All or Nothing last night and when the allies attempted to run acorss the bridge I opened up with the 20MM flak gun on a hill about 700meters away. They had tanks ect... but the gun was in scattered trees. It took them 4 turns to finally find the thing. Gen
  9. Are you guys kidding me? Nvidia makes some of the worst driver updates out there. You can not blame BTS for Nvidia again screwing the pooch. I am running the 6.5s because I am not going to bother to waste my time beta testing for Nvidia. I paid for the card I dont give my time out for free. Anywho I am glad that BTS has acknlowedged the issues with Win2K I thought I was the only one that gets garbled text in Win2K. It works like a charm in Win98 Gen
  10. Tanks can be real biatches. But most of the time it comes down to one side losing thier tanks while the other side has 1 tank left. AT guns do thier job pretty well After that it is inf on inf. I like this game in the sense that if you take some real world tactics it can actually work to a degree Personally I dont care about cherrie picking. I like to see how others pick thier units and how they use them. I learn the most from somebody who comes in with a totally new concept of unit selection and usage and works me over real good. I then change my unit selection just a bit and my tactics. Gen
  11. Hmm I have always used my gun crews as infantry after they lost thier gun. They have 15 ammo and can provide a little cover fire. As for the killing of routed crews. War is hell and you should expect anything. I would not care at all if gun crews were used too slaughter my routed squads. Of course I can be a mean SOB. I usually hunt down and kill crews of armored or support vehicles that venture into my web. Gen
  12. For some reason when I am getting just pounded early in the game I usually call for a cease fire or surrender. I actually feel for my men Gen
  13. I am still confused on how hugging the edges of the map is really gamey. In most other games I can see how it would work but in this game if you have a defense that can move andbody moving troops in a stright single file line along an edge can be wiped clean real easy. Grab some 81s and drop them almost on them but just a little behind the moving line to impede thier retreat. Then open up with a MG and a couple of squads. They are stuck and will probably panic. If you have any kind of guns in the area shoot into thier flimsy line for even more effectiveness. Anybody moving a few units in a perfect orderly line is a fool just waiting to be slaughtered. As for this being gamey? I really do not know how he moved his troops. But a 800X800 map does not allow for much movement. It sounds like he found your weak spot and is exploiting it hard core. That poor MG crew and shrek didnt have a chance. I have never found a single MG crew to be much of anything against more than 1 squad. They can however be very deadly if you place a single squad or 2 squads right next to them. And of course more than 1 MG in a close proximity can also be deadly. I suggest next time making sure those troops have cover and make sure you have a ready reserve waiting to move and stop a breach. Using layers also helps alot. make a thin line of defense that can just harass them enough and kill enough guys that when they hit your main line of D the attacker is going WTF? Theyll be worn down while you bring a good amount of fire power on them. Speaking of gamey. What do you guys think of people who on the last turn run thier armored vehicles into the flag just so you dont get it? Most of the time they are lost but keeps you from getting a minor victory? Gen
