  1. Nobody takes them seriiously. I visit that site all the time. They are complete smartass's. Gen
  2. By the way Apple is not alone in this moving away from older operating systems, today Microsoft announced that they wouldn't be developing any new or revising any hardware or software drivers for Win 98 v2, NT 4.0 or NT server 4.0. My company is still floating in the doldrums of Win 95 on many existing machines (thousands of them) and most of our ProE boxes are running NT4.0. So MS in their own inimitable way are performing the same trick of killing a old OS by neglecting it to death." I can install NT 4.0 on an x86 hardware out of the box. NT 4.0 is nearly 8 yrs old now. Even after MS stops doing hotfixes and product updates that will be true probably 10 yrs from now. Plus MS rarely writes any of the device drivers. The hardware manufacturers do. Apple if they do this will prevent even the installation of the OS. Big difference. And if Apple does this. Big surprise they have a long history of just abusing their customers. Amazing part if they keep coming back. Gen
  3. Are you secretly planning another attempt to succesfully re-establish the Third Reich????" I am. But my friend has somehow enlisted the help of my other friend(United States) in a good ole free for all Axis & Allies game. Im going to have to kill them both now Gen
  4. No the ruckus was between Patton and Monty. But I am not sure if they ever got the Mk.2 version of it out before VE day. I know it definately was out after. Gen
  5. I have had this happen to me with Inf guns and some recoiless rifles. it just sits there saying reloading forever or until they are spotted and destroyed. Wierd. Gen [ July 26, 2002, 06:26 PM: Message edited by: Gen-x87H ]
  6. I believe if Hitler didnt make the blunder of declaring war on the United States it would have been harder for the U.S. to get into the war in Europe. There was a strong German lobby in washington at the time which really hindered help directly to Britain. And the thought of coming to the aid of the Communists when Germany wanted nothing to do with the U.S. would have left us with the option of kicking Japans arse. It would have been interesting IMO. Gen
  7. Incidentally "The History of Fascism" spells out the differences between the German implementation of fascism and the Italian. A good read" Very true. The Germans used an off shoot called Nazism Gen
  8. Jumbos hmmm. Arent Jumbos an Infantry tank? Maybe I am wrong. All I remember is a game where I went up against 12 of them with 2 Panther Gs. Killed all of them. But one of the Jumbos whos track was shattered, and lost its gun would not die. I was hitting the thing from 130 meters with two Pathers and all I got was ricochets. Had to close assault it with infantry to finally kill the thing. Gen
  9. You could simulate the Soviet attack wave by allowing different settings of control. Lets say you set it to realistic. You send an order to your units and it takes a ridiculously long time for them to get it. So you are forced to send human wave after human wave because giving them different orders literally takes minutes. Of course with that option you need to reduce the cost of the infantry or it would be pointless to play at that lvl. So you would get a lot of troops that are hard to control. You give them general objectives and let them go to town. Of course you end up with some higher ratio of men compared to the Axis player, take huge causalties, but if you can play it right win out everyday, at least in an attack in 44-45 Could be an interesting option IMO. 10. Obvioulsy many on here fail to realize what a major engine rerwrite involves. Especially when you have a single programmer. It is not something you can just do overnight, or even in a few months. It takes a company with many programmers like id software a couple of years to design a 3d engine like Quake3 or the upcoming Doom3. So shame on you people for blasting BTS for not rewriting their game at the drop of a whim. And dont go around threatening to not buy the game becuase of Apples stupidity. And I say Apples stupidity because it was Apple who dropped the ball on this one. They failed to let anybody know about the RAVE issue until it was really to late. Small companies like BTS do not have the time, resources, or the energy to change entire applications becuase Apple has shotty PR. Deal with it or stop playing the game until the next engine comes out with support for OpenGL. Gen
  11. I think a post WWII game would be kind of cool Actually I would enjoy battlefront allowing for a german on german QB or an Allied on Allied QB. Gen
  12. GF3 and GF2 are not one in the same. GF3 core has a pixel and vertex shader. GF2 has a DX8 compliant T&L engine. The pixel shaders of the GF3 are customizable where as the T&L engine of the GF2 is very limited in what it can do. For the money the GF3 TI200 for about what 75 bucks now is a great upgrade card for cheap. I have a GF3 Ti200 and it runs every game I own crystal smooth. The GF4MX variants differ. I believe the highest version of the GF4MX has descent memory bandwidth and can beat a GF3 Ti200 in most of todays games that dont take advantage of the Pixel and Vertex shaders of the GF3. Any of the new games like Doom 3 will kill the GF4 MX cards. The GF4 MX card is more GF2 than anything. The T&L engine is really no different than the GF2s. It has better memory management because it uses the Crossbar technology of the GF4 but I would not buy one. For the money the GF4 Ti4200 is a nice buy. Stay away from ATi. Driver issues, and the 8500 barely beats the GF3 Ti200 in most games. Gen
  13. Athlon XP 1700+ 256 MB PC-2100 DDR 40GB ATA-100 HDD. GF3 Ti200. Runs great. Old machine also runs it great. AMD Athlon Thunderbird 800Mhz 1GB PC133 100GB HDDs GF2 MX. 19" KDS monitor. Gen
  14. I had 2 count them 2 volksgrenadier sqauds routed from an American platoon 930 meters away shooting at them in a tree line. And they took 0 casualties. I have seen some pretty unbelievable things in this game. But watching as the better half of a toon is routed from measly rifle fire from 2/3rds of a mile was quite pathetic. BTW they were regular quality also. Gen
  15. illo " Isnt it amazing the hypocrisy? I wonder if this story is true if anybody on the allied side was even tried for the obvious sluaghters of hundreds of thousands of civilians? Chances are the bastards who did this got off scott free. It almost sickens me to think we could do this. I always pictured us(british\American) above atrocities that our allies(soviet union) would commit. If your story is true that debunks my thought and makes me very sad. Gen
  16. One thing I would like to see in CMBB is not knowing when you have whacked a tank. In real life I would imagine unless the thing was on fire\crew bailing the tank would continue to hit the other tank until they knew for sure it was dead. Not just get a single penetration and move on. It would add a bit of realism to the game. And make for a better enviornment IMO. Gen
  17. My guess is production production production. Shermans pretty much were not worth much one on one by the end of the war. But we were producing tham at such a rate Germany didnt have enough guns to stop them. If they took the time to redesign then validate a new design it could have prolonged the war. So they did mini upgrades to try to keep the crews alive longer. But the base of the tank was still the Sherman. That is my opinion Gen
  18. Built a scenario once that pitted about 30K worth of Allied armor vs 26K of Axis Armor. Mostly Pershings, Super Pershings, a few Fireflies vs Panthers, KTs, JagdTigers\Panthers and a few Tigers. Each side had a base with respective AT weapons. About 10 Flak43\44s + a few 37s and 20s Quads for the Axis. A bunch of 90mm AA Bofors and some 76mm AT guns for the Allies. Each side got 2 companies of troops. Open winter terrain placed on a moon somewhere. No trees just interesting terrain features That is right. CMBO can in theory now be played in Space I played against the computer. I headed them off at the pass. I tell you when you have 12 Panthers, 2 KTs, and a Jagdtiger sitting in amush at the pass. A lot of Pershings go up in smoke My counterattack was just as successfull. When I came out from the mountain passes those 90mms and other tanks lit me up. I would call it a draw with a lot of dead tanks. But damn it was fun to lead probably 30 panthers, 10 KTs, a hew TDs into battle Gen
  19. If somebody had the time and energy. They could figure out how the .txt file is built. Then run through the said file and make sure thier tanks never missed, troops always inflicted the most amount of damage ect..... But again this community appears to be above the annoying hax0r tricks of the kiddy 1st person shooter games. Thank you Gen
  20. How many tanks in an Armored division? 2-300? At 200 points a pop. You need 60000 points for a 300 tank division. And the worlds fastest computer. Gen
  21. Why wouldnt they pop smoke when they see a big cat? Allied tanks are not stand off tanks. They are fast. If you were in an M10 and had a tungsten round or a Smoke round with a Panther coming at you head on from 390 meters. What would you do? Pop the smoke and get the hell out of dodge? Or hope you can somehow penetrate the thing before its shot smacks you silly. 1 shot from the panther is a guarantee penetration on an M10. M10 does not have a guarantee penetration on the Panther. Provided it even connects on the first shot. I would be getting the hell out of there and trying a flank shot. But that is just me. Gen
  22. I wouldnt even engage a Panther with a Super Pershing head on. I have seen those go down to Panthers at that kind of range. And the 90mm gun on that thing is squirly. Most of the time it is not even close until after the 3rd or 4th shot. Panthers gun is usually dead on. I say usually only because I have had instances of it missing also. But 90% of the time that gun is deadly accurate. Gen
  23. It is a marketing tool. They realize many young kids are now playing video games and not reading thier flyers. Gen
  24. JasonC: Wow that was a great response with a great plan to make arty more like real life. I enjoyed reading it and hope Battlefront takes a look at Arty in future editions of the game. I only wondered about it because most of the games I play tend to have people using arty in what seems like unhistorical game play. Basically running the arty in front of thier forces so when contact is made arty falls on that target within 1 minute. When coupled with fast response times it seemed to be unrealistic from a non-military background player like myself. I would imagine in real life the infantry would run into contact then call in a fire support mission. All this taking at least 5-10 mins. Not have the guns constantly changing to follow the infantry. Your point about the concentration of the arty compared to real life is an interesting one. I never thought about it being highly concentrated because of the costs involved. Looking at your reponse you have me convinced that lower cost, less accurate arty may be a way to go. Gen
