  1. I remember a long thread from many months ago dealing with off-map arty. Some people talked about how CMs off map arty tends to come in much faster than it would in real life. I think somebody quoted it at being more like 7-9 mins minimum. And depending on the size of the arty or who owns it can take much longer. So my question would be. Is the fact that one can bring down arty on a target within 1-4 mins leading to some unhistorical use of the deadly brew? Opinions? Gen
  2. I am guessing you should email the admin of the site instead of proclaiming your dislike for it on the battlefront.com msgboard Gen
  3. ...like a KT hitting a scout car or something. Anyone know about this?" My guess is the scout car crew bailed thinking the big tank was about to blast them into the nether world. If you tried it with a churchill my guess is the KT would not have knocked it out. Gen
  4. AMD chips tend to run hotter than Intel stuff" Wrong. Go look at the thermal specs of an Intel Pentium 4. That chip was so hot that a lot of OEMs had to build custom cases that could suck out enough hot air. www.sandpile.org is a good start. "Visom; You could try to downclock the CPU and/or lower the CPU voltage to reduce heat buildup. It might be possible to do it from the BIOS setup" You dont want to do this. The chip runs at a certain voltage because it is determined this is what is needed to be stable. Since CPUs are just complex circuits. If you lower the amount of energy they recieve it will also lower its ability to perform correctly. As for the 100% CPU usage. I noticed this also when I would get to a desktop for something. I built a custom app that reports all sorts of fun things including CPU usage. It was 100% on an Athlon 800. And it was 100% on an Athlon XP 1700. But I have had 0 problems overheating. Gen Gen
  5. Jesus Oct 31st? I am not complaining but wasnt it supposedly to be out in Winter of 2002? Gen
  6. I have always wanted the ability for opponents to be of the same nation. It could setup some interesting battles going against your own kind. Gen
  7. I am thinking it will pop its head out on the eve of Operation B. We are to close to it now to release it any sooner. But that is just my theory Gen
  8. Not that many Tigers and Panthers took part and the Elephant was a complete disaster." I thought we determined on this msgboard that the elephant was not a disaster(contrary to popular belief). Indeed it actually had kill ratios of 30-40 to 1 looking at the AARs or something??? Gen
  9. > I remember seeing something about the > production of Panthers vs T-34s around the > battle of Kursk. Why not King Tigers vs SU-76? Did they have KTs around Kursk? > The Germans were getting something like 50 > tanks a month vs the Soviets 1000. Which makes it what, 600 tanks per year? Surely, they only built Panthers. Especially around Kursk. I was making a reference between two tanks. If you cant see beyond that. Not my problem. > Parity? Hard to say. Really?????? > In all reality it will be hard for a Soviet > player to mimick the ineffectiveness of the > Soviet droves until later in the war when the > Germans were lacking in every single part of > the battle. Mainly due to frost and mud, no doubt? I was thinking along the lines of the Germans were outmanned, outgunned, outnumbered at every corner of the war after Kursk. Gen
  10. I remember seeing something about the production of Panthers vs T-34s around the battle of Kursk. The Germans were getting something like 50 tanks a month vs the Soviets 1000. Parity? Hard to say. This game will have a hard time modeling the lack of coordination and Stalins stupidity in the first weeks of the war. In all reality it will be hard for a Soviet player to mimick the ineffectiveness of the Soviet droves until later in the war when the Germans were lacking in every single part of the battle. And the human wave technique worked. I am sure some role playing grogs will try. But can they sit idly by as hundreds of thier virtual soldiers just disintegrate from enemy fire? Just to model it correctly? I am guessing a lot of these battles will not look like real life from the simple fact both players will be using techniques that were not used in the real war. Gen
  11. When does it happen? Almost everytime you need them the most Gen
  12. Wittman was destroyed by an aicraft rocket in the enginecompartment behind the turret.. probably by a Typhoon.. Joe Eskins didn't knock Wittmans Tank out of action.." I thought we already went over this? It was determined there werent any sorties flown in the area that day which kind of invalidates that. Gen
  13. Name some tanks and we can give you a role. Gen
  14. Since the maps are usually small you can typically place AT guns overlooking terrain that tanks would probably cross. That is about the best way I can see using AT guns on the offensive in this game. I suppose if you happened to get a really huge map you could try to move the guns into position. But dont do it with an 88 since they are stationary. Chances are you will drop the sucker in the wrong spot wasting it. Gen
  15. Think combined arms and you will be routing toons soon enough Tanks + inf + arty. The total package is the only way to win. Gen
  16. I have actually seen just the opposite. Allied guns from what I have seen tend to be very inaacurate over 6-700 Meters. German guns seem to be very accurate at upto 1200 meters. Dont know if that is realitic but this is what I have observed playing both sides of the ball. Sure you get the lucky and unlucky shots but on avg..... Gen
  17. Actually I have always wondered. Roger Waters dad was killed in WWII. #1 Listening to the song it sounds like a battle at Anzio between the Royal Fusiliers and a German unit that had Tigers. #2. Does any one of you grogs know whether Waters father was part of this unit? I remember reading his father died fighting the Germans in WWII. WHich is one of the reasons the Wall resembled a mocked up Nazi theme. #3. Is this battle correct? Did it really happen? MY history on some of these battles is shady sometimes. But I think I remember reading about the Royal Fusiliers at least in the Invasion of Sicily. I never really thought much of the song until I actually listened to the lyrics. Gen

That is what I am wondering. I just hope it is more simple to control your economy Gen
  19. I wish they would allow for play beyond the end of the war. Gen
  20. Now this new game? BTW is it me or does this remind anybody of the game High Command? Gen P.S. First post in thenew forum [ April 18, 2002, 04:36 PM: Message edited by: Gen-x87H ]
  21. I remember reading about the Poles attacking German lines with Cavalry. Then after they were completely decimated what was left banged their fists on the metal German tanks as they were lead off to the POW camp. Apparently the Polish commanders assured their troops the tanks were made of wood and were only for show. Gen
  22. Seen it a million times. I once had a spotter do this. He was on a slope and a squad sneaked near him them opened up. The A.I decided it was much more intelligent to run at the attackers and right next to them and then get killed LOL! Well maybe not LOL! since it was a 4.2 inch spotter with a full compliment of rounds  Gen
  23. Not the way CM is setup. You plot your move and when you hit go it compiles the turn and plays it back for you. I suppose they could add a feature that will let you get into a units head and watch as that 300mm arty decimates it Gen
  24. I have to ask -- why not? Have you experienced issues with it or somefink?" I am thinking or hoping it is because he likes his Mac otherwise I cant imagine why he would take a higher priced, slower, overheated Intel chip. BTW go look at the known errate sheets for the P4,P3 vs Athlon. Last time I look which was in November I think AMD had 7 known errata, P3 had almost 70, and P4 was over 30. nuff said. Oh anyways I would always get an AMD processor over an Intel one. Always faster and cheaper. game machine XP1700+ ASUS A7V266-E GF3Ti200 256MB DDR-SDRAM PC2100 40GB 7200 HD Home Workmachine Athlon TB 800 ASUS A7V GF2MX 400 1GB PC-133 100GB across 5 drives. Gen
