  1. I am playing WaW 1.02 as the Allies against the computer. I have checked the diplomacy standing almost every turn. On one turn, Spain was unchanged at 40% Axis. The Axis had conquered France and the U.S. did not sail, so there was no event. In the next turn, Spain joined the Axis. I had thought this had happened before with both Spain and Turkey, but I could not swear I had looked at the diplomacy chart in the prior turn. This time I can affirm that Spain went from 40% to joining the Axis in one turn. I thought you could keep an eye on the opponents diplomatic activities by watching the diplomacy table. Is this not true? If not, what is the value of the table in the first place. On the other hand, is this a bug where I could not see the Axis diplomatic efforts? I know I could never get Spain to side with me in one turn, regardless of how many MPPs I spent.
  2. Not wanting to cause more issues (well, maybe I am), but if you are concerned with engineer railroads and realism, you should require the German engineers to rebuild the Russian rail system as they conquer it becasue it is the wrong gauge for German rolling stock. Captured rail stock was insufficent to supply the troops requiring the Germans to re-gauge the rails to supply their troops. This is partially recreated by requiring the cities to rebuild after capture, but that penalty occurs all over the map, not just in Russia. I remember a very old board game (showing my age) where the Germans had "Todt" units to accomplish just such a feat.
  3. Can you still daisey-chain HQ's to extend supply? Is supply detgermined exactly the same for the North Africa or Russia scenarios? Bulge?
  4. I have HoI/Doomsday as well and appreciate its detail. SC is certainly more abstract than HoI. But SC has one thing going for it over HoI. You can finish a game during your lifetime.
  5. Arrived yesterday (8/22) in Mandeville, Louisiana.
  6. I also have a GeForce 8800 gtx, and I have no problems with it, so I'm not sure your problem is the 8800.
  7. I have seen my snipers shoot, they just do not shoot straight. I previously posted that my snipers believe in the three minutes of shooting - one kill theory (as opposed to one shot - one kill). Even after 1.02, they still do. In the same airfield scenario, I had my snipers placed in the tower and told them to shoot at a technical across the map. I heard multiple shots and then saw the Syrian get out of the truck and walk away (probably because he was getting a headache from the sound of all the near misses). I have also watched while the same sniper team tried for several minutes to kill a rocket team that was just across the taxiway. Curiously, the sniper team fired their automatic weapons at the rocket team. Maybe they were too close?
  8. My snipers seem to subscribe to the "three minutes of shooting - one kill" theory.
  9. I found that while they would launch the Javelins at the tanks from their starting position, they would not launch them against the bunkers, whether manually aimed or not. However, after I advanced about half way, they used their Javelins on the bunkers.
  10. In 1945 there would be a number of 109's lying around. In 1969, the producers of Battle of Britain bought about 50 of them from the Spanish government. I am not sure when this film was shot, since it was released in December 1945. Maybe they were still fighting when this was filmed, making it somewhat difficult to obtain an enemy plane?
  11. Is there anyway in the editor to prevent shore bombardment? It is somewhat disheartening to lose an entire 10 poiny army to a single battleship and cruiser.
  12. Can someone explain, in game terms, what is the difference between a 10 point corps and a 10 point army? Is it worth the MPP difference or should you build corps first until you reach the limit and then build armies?
  13. Was that a laden turtle or an unladen turtle?
  14. Well, you'll have to get past me, relaxing in my Mandeville beach front property. By the way, I actually received CMBB in Metairie.
  15. Hopefully that's the only thing that's arriving. Isadore looking nastier and nastier...read that article saying if Isadore hit New Orleans that the city would be covered in 30,000 feet of water. *Shudder*</font>
  16. The Saints beat Chicago and CMBB arrives in New Orleans!!!
  17. Guess we can now understand why the Germans all hate CDV. Imagine, sending the game early. How dare they.
  18. I hate to answer this question in a serious manner. That being said, my father was the CO of an American regimental antitank company in the 94th DIvision (Yes, the same division from the scenario. He lost one of his batteries when the battalion surrendered.) I had asked him about the use of willie pete when that was a topic on these boards and he mentioned that the German tanks often had fuel leaks and other flammable substances on their surfaces. If this is so, it seems reasonable to presume that a tank would not go merrily through any open flame source, regardless of how apparently small.
  19. Obviously, you've never heard of the Hermann Goering Panzer Paracute Division. You might look for the book Infantry Aces. It details several german infantry soldiers who won the Knights Cross. One of them was a Fallschirmjager and served extensively on the Eastern Front. [ September 23, 2002, 04:34 PM: Message edited by: Big Dog ]
  20. Louie: I believe the first Avalon Hill Matrix game was that abomination Kriegspiel. Back when production was one game a year, I always prebought and waited impatiently for the UPS man. While PiggDogg may predate me (first played Tactics II in 1964) I have wasted many years of my life playing games with him, particularly Wellington's Victory. Does anyone remember the Russia WWII game with the Rabatz order? Incidentally, I notice no one mentions the old Avalon Hill Chancellorsville game (the original, not the reprint). Now all I have to figure out is how to sell my 200+ wargame collection.
  21. I now kmow why my system worked fine after I replaced the ribbon cable. During the replacement, I unplugged the power cord. I have since learned that a workaround that works for me is to unplug the power cord after shutting down the computer and then reinsert the plug. When I restart the computer, even hours later, the system works fine in agpx4, fastwrite and fsb 133/266. At least it is not a battlefront code problem and does have a simple work around. Hopefully MSI will fix the problem. Thank you.
  22. Problem unsolved. Since my one successful run, the problem returned. I have since learned that there is a problem with the amd 761 chipset/266fsb/agpx4 combination. I reduce the fsb to 200 and the game runs fine. Problem does not appear to be either Battlefront or nvidia, but amd.
