One thing I never knew about split squads
Erwin replied to Holman's topic in Combat Mission Red Thunder
Does this mean that one can deliberately combine a broken team with an unbroken team from the same squad to get an unbroken unit (like in CM1)? ie: Which team's state takes precedence, a, b or c? -
Wonderful. Thanks...

[RELEASED] Kieme's Modular Buildings Add On Pack
Erwin replied to Kieme(ITA)'s topic in CM Red Thunder Maps and Mods
Thanks for clarifications. Will you be updating anything in "independent buildings 1-9" or are these the final versions and all you will be doing is putting them in one pack? (ie: Should we wait for the final pack b4 installing?) I have been out of town for almost 2 months so just now downloaded all your mods. I thought I got "Modular Buildings 9-10-11" but can't see that name in my downloads folder. Is that mod under another name (so I can locate and delete)? -
I enjoy your mods EZ. It's hard to keep up with what is the latest. Perhaps you can make a note here and in a mod with date etc. so we know that we have the latest version. Thanks...

Love it. Thanks.

I get "fatal error" on the link. Available anyplace else?

Love the bldgs. and have d/l everything I can find. But, is there a separate "urbanization" mod file? That one I haven't found.

What's good, and not good, about CMMODS?
Erwin replied to GreenAsJade's topic in CM Red Thunder Maps and Mods
GAJ: You did a great job with CMMODS. Yes, larger previews pics would be great. But, the only gripe I have had is that often older mods seem to come up earlier before newer mods - causing confusion. (Not sure this was ever addressed.) Hope you get CMSF (and CMA) mods back up as well. -
[RELEASED] Kieme's new modular building add on 4

I get "page doesn't exist". Has this been moved into a new nod pack? -
[RELEASED] Kieme's Modular Buildings Add On Pack
Erwin replied to Kieme(ITA)'s topic in CM Red Thunder Maps and Mods
Love the mods. However, I just finished d/loading all of them from CMMODS ("independent" parts 1-9, plus modular bldgs. v1 and v2 as well as the add-on pack). So, are you saying one only needs this one large mod. Or, should I install all that you have uploaded to CMMODS in order, and have them over-write the older ones? -
Very cool. I learn stuff every day here... didn't realize the Russians used camo.

Thanks Vein. BTW: I get "cannot find" for: Tracers: http://s3.amazonaws.com/cmmods-zips....cers_May14.brz

I still prefer CMSF and am looking forward to that remake. But, CMA also poses very interesting challenges. I find playing the Russians harder than CMSF.

Is there a renaming thread here someplace. I read that not all uniform mods (or many others as well) are "cross-compatible" with all releases.

A question about ammunition sharing.
Erwin replied to Oddball_E8's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
"Oddly enough, the bore of the British 3" mortar actually measured 81mm..." maybe the trigger mechanism would need changing? But, otherwise why could it not fire 81mm? (Wonder if the Soviets had to change trigger, or it was same as German.) -
Finished this mission yesterday (in over-time). Minor Victory (RT - Warrior). Really enjoyed it. It's great to see a larger scenario than one usually has seen in CM2. The default terrain and units look good out of the box. Wonderful challenges and multiple strategies possible, so fairly replayable. Only two disappointments: 1) Steve says the other missions are smaller(!!) 2) I never got to use my flamers at all! Getting any of the 6(?) flamers close enuff to use vs any enemy was not required to get my Minor Victory. And I went 5 or so minutes overtime so, I was pressed for time. ** SPOILERS** One has to cross a river, which doesn't seem well defended so was quite easy. Then get into woods asap, and the it's a question of rolling up through lines of woods separated from each other by a lot of open space (covered by Axis fire - guns, MG's and arty). So, once committed to a set of trees, it's hard/time-consuming to switch units to another axis of attack. What I concluded re tactics, is that keeping the Russians in full squads was not advisable. They made a bigger target, if the first guy walked into a minefield, the others followed. (The rest should just stop, surely?) Same thing with ambushes. It could quickly lead to 30% casualties within seconds. And I accidentally set this to RT play(!) so I could PAUSE any time I wanted. (I don't recommend this in RT btw. Too large to command more than a fraction effectively imo.) Casualties really don't seem to matter. However, I would split all the Russian "front line" squads and conduct recon with the smallest teams to locate minefields and enemy ambush sites, killing fields etc. I found the LHS tree "line" to be the best approach. I was able to get behind the German lines this way, and after overcoming the initial defenses, reached the undefended 3rd objective fairly easily. Then I turned around and hit the 2nd line from the rear. All that was accomplished with one company. All the other companies in the center and right flanks were stymied by arty and a more integrated Axis defense, making it much harder going. IIRC, the center company did get to the 1st objective, but couldn't make it to the 2nd. And it didn't matter much. The SU's were somewhat useful, but it was hard to get long range LOS to most Axis defenses. The Soviet arty had plenty of ammo left at the end. I really should have used more HE. I used very little smoke, since the woods blinded both sides effectively anyway. Perhaps I should have used all the smoke to create a large screen and simply rushed my Russian hordes into close combat with the Axis, since there were not that many enemy in any one defense position. If I could get enuff Russians close enough to fire, the Axis broke easily. If I ever replay WEGO, I may try that.

Yes, this is the best release yet... Even tho I am a mod slut. I don't see the urgent need for any this time. And am happy that we are getting the UI better and better. (Love the C2 red lines. Still gently pushing for selectable waypoints/lines, color coded teams that ID a squad, and more efficient ammo ACQUIRE system.)

RTS control scheme - lacking slow movements?
Erwin replied to Volksgrenadier's topic in Combat Mission Red Thunder
You know... am not even sure how to activate the RTS controls lol. Still doing things the old-fashioned way. Can't figure out my smart phone either. It's age... (And I used to be in high tech, so don't laugh... it could well happen to you. Unless you employ an 8 year old as consultant.) -
Found the old profile - New campaign soon...
Erwin replied to Clubfoot's topic in CMSF Scenario and Mod Design Forum
Off on 6 week trip. Looking forward to this when I get back. (Hope I can find a game machine somewhere while gone.) -
Really nice, George. One of the most atmospheric I have seen.
