  1. Good to know. I have a mod that plays a fanfare when reinforcements appeared (very useful). I never noticed if it played when touch objectives were met.
  2. Ok, I'm convinced. Thanks for the links.
  3. "Arab Isreali Wars game, 1980s Cold War Europe, 2nd Korean War etc. For WW2 I would like to see Early Blitzkrieg and Western Desert..." +1 Not sure why we may never see 1939-1940's era. That was Blitzkrieg/maneuver war in its purest form. The Allies had better tanks, but awful doctrine.
  4. Thanks Oddball... I have never heard a "full-speed" MG42 in real life. But, one keeps hearing it described as a "ripping" sound - like a "zipper". These examples don't seem to sound like "ripping". I wondered if they have been reduced in speed to save ammo (which AFAIK is common). Or, maybe the original zipper/ripping sound descriptions of an MG42 are not accurate. From Wiki: "One of the weapon's most notable features was its comparatively high rate of fire of about 1,200 rounds per minute, twice the rate of the British Vickers machine gun and American Browning at 600 round/min. At such a high rate the human ear cannot easily discern the sound of individual bullets being fired, and in use the gun makes a sound described as like "ripping cloth" and giving rise to the nickname "Hitler's buzzsaw", or, more coarsely, "Hitler's zipper" (Soviet soldiers called it the "linoleum ripper"[citation needed]). German soldiers called it Hitlersäge ("Hitler's saw") or "Bonesaw"." I have a thought - is it possible to speed up the sound sample to make it "sound right"?
  5. There is a sound that plays when you receive reinforcements. That is very useful as many times I just didn't notice the new units. Anyone know if there is a way to get a sound to play when an objective is touched, or captured.
  6. You are very welcome, mate. I love all the sound mods we're getting. It's very hard to choose between em. One thing I still don't hear is the "tearing fabric" or "zipper" sound that the MG42 was supposed to have. With these samples one can still hear the individual shots. I thought that with the MG42 one couldn't hear individual shots, and it would have more like a "wall of sound" - like a modern gatling gun. Are these MG42 samples from a gun that has had its firing rate adjusted slower??
  7. I note that the majority of existing wargames on the WitP topic are strategic in nature, or emphasize the naval and air aspects. Perhaps one amphibious invasion is much like another, one desperate fight on an island jungle pretty much the same as the others... What has been fun in the CM1 and CM2 series has been the mobility aspects of armored warfare. Other than the Russo-Japanese aspect of the conflict, my reading of the Pacific War land war aspect was that it was one hellish experience drowning in mud and rain after another. If you saw the Pacific War TV series it wasn't nearly as entertaining as Band of Brothers. I think one problem was that all locations looked the same, the battles seemed the same.
  8. Saferight: Do we add all your sound mods together? Or does the latest mod overwrite the earlier one(s)?
  9. Thanks for the info Zebulon. Last time I was in Finland (some time ago) I saw exercises and it was all Warsaw Pact equipment.
  10. It's a single bmp mod (labeled "goaway casualty.bmp"). I have it if you want to send me your address via PM. (I don't recall who made it. You'd have to go thru the CMBN CMMODS and/or Repository.)
  11. John, that WP article was written in June 2014. The question is how come no reporting was done when obviously ISIS/ISIL was being formed? If they are as effective/well-trained as we are being told, that takes many years.
  12. The current events are amazing. One couldn't have written a more dramatic movie screenplay. No one would have believed it. My question is how come the general public is only now being told about ISIS (or ISIL)? Clearly, these guys have been around for a while. However, it's quite brilliant if orchestrated by us. Get the whole bloody lot of them wiping out each other. And yes, I really hope some bright designers can scenarios or (Insha'Allah) a campaign on this.
  13. The problem the Ukrainians will have (as any country equipped with a particular country's weapons) is that the Russian will know every aspect of Ukrainian weapons - particularly their weaknesses. However, since the Russians don't export their current/good stuff, the Ukrainians will have poor intel. Finland is another nation equipped with Russian tanks etc. Not sure about the Baltics and Balkans etc.
  14. How do you know how to rename them? Is there a link, or can you give examples?
  15. This sort of situation (where you get to attack and defend) is always good.
  16. Totally agree with the main advice: Recon, spend time spotting, suppressive fire, patience. However, a major issue I have with almost all scenarios that require forest clearing is that you are not given enuff time to do the above properly and you rarely have enough ammo to suppressive fire at everything - maybe if you only use rifles, but certainly not with SMG's. Eve tho' I've played this game since the beginning, I still find that getting someone shot is how and when you find the enemy in average length scenarios.
  17. Yes, there has long been requests for simple adjacent unit ACQUIRE ability, so you don't have to go through the whole "split squad, load team, acquire, disembark, move to rest of unit and wait to recombine" process. That is unnecessarily cumbersome and can really slow down the set-up process as well as in the middle of the game - esp in WEGO. There isn't much wrong with the CM2 game itself any more. The limitations are primarily in play speed - especially in the larger scenarios. I hope that BF now makes its focus on making the game easier in its interface functions and faster to play.
  18. Ooops. Sorry. I meant JuJu... (Wrong thread for Umlaut.)
  19. If it's helpful to someone, I have had at least 3 gaming computers (desktop and laptop) made by XI Computers over the past 12+ years, and they have never gone bad. Getting my 4th soon.
  20. IIRC there was a legal issue in that only German nationals could serve in the Wehrmacht, whereas anyone could be in the SS hence the latter's rapid increase in numbers - esp foreigners.
