  1. Regarding getting run over...last night a dropshop got shot down and landed directly on top of my squad. Next thing I know, I have no more squad and the drop screen pops up unbidden. And no losses were recorded for the other team. Did the program just ignore a freaky situation?
  2. My vote would be to not have jumping infantry show up on radar until they hit a certain height and/or burn for a certain period of time.

    Infantry Gripe

This is a great point. Also, when the squad is told to "Hold Position" that should mean just that....in other words, when I want to stand up as squad leader the rest of the squad shouldn't leave their prone positions too. It makes scouting and sniping much more difficult.
  4. Once I figured infantry out a bit I also had some success. Hiding underwater near a bridge kicked butt and on the very mountainous snow map I had a field day with a hmg squad. The key is cover and the ability to jump back into terrain that is both inaccessible and out of site of the vehicle that wants to chew you up. The basic problem with infantry right now is that the terrains are typically very favorable to tank warfare.
  5. I tried that too and it didn't work. Hmmmm...I'll play around with it for awhile.
  6. I can't seem to change over to the anti-tank rounds for infantry...can I do that with the r button or is there some other way?
  7. Completely agree. It sucks to start out...you get killed alot and often don't know what hit you but soon enough you get the hang of it and then only suck at it about as much as I do (which means you are often a pain in the ass to the really good players but that's about it).
  8. Doing dumb stuff? You crushed me multiple times today! As to the first post, this game is really damn good and worth the moolah. Stop whinging, buy it and oh yeah....stop whinging.
  9. Washington, DC here...I'm a drop-in evenings EST during the week minus real world martial and marital commitments.
  10. This one may be helpful: Imperial Grunts by Robert Kaplan
  11. It sounds like a backassed (is that possible?) Archer!
  12. The anti-inflammatory's and the muscle relaxants are crucial to start with. You want to chill everything out first and then figure out what to do about it. I've got a eight inch rod fused to my spine and do martial arts so, as you can imagine, I get very funky lower back issues. Avoid heat, at least at first, and see an orthopedic surgeon and then find a good chiropractor. The best way to safeguard your back is to strengthen your core muscles. It's not enough just to work on the lower back...you have to balance out the whole system.
  13. Or it was named with driving the Allies into the sea in mind rather then the ease at which it would be achieved. I haven't read any of the operational orders or such Grog stuff but I can't imagine that at this stage of the war the Germans would think anything would come easy. Certainly not with a bunch of 8" cruisers and DDs off shore. </font>

  15. Where do you live? I mean no disrespect but all of those views are pretty run-of-the-mill in the US (in the latter paragraph). Where this intersects with Steiner is that his sig restates a clearly provocative quote that is demonstrably not true and meant to decieve the casual reader. As you can see below, I am not averse to provocative sigs but I believe that a deceptive, untruthful and clearly biased sig should be challenged. And when the poster has demonstrated his sympathetic opinions regarding the Nazi's and his post has anti-semitic overtones haven't we gone beyond the realm of a minor erring from one side or the other?
  16. No need...let them keep working on the new engine. Steiner seems to have effed off anyway.
  17. If I'm correct about the identity of the poster he really should be keeping a low profile, and not risking coming to the attention of the mods. The sig has an agenda behind it which is quite transparent. I'm puzzled why, after taking down the PF, the mods haven't yet taken action against something so insidious. I assume he's running out of time to modify it of his own volition. That being the case, he really should take advantage of this opportunity before the decision is made for him. </font>
  18. It's not intolerant to question your beliefs (or anyone else's). And we aren't defining what you are allowed to say...BFC does. And from what I've seen, they're not huge fans of crypto-Nazi's or the airing of their views on this board. Happy New Year.
  19. A Steiner14 quote from December 10...clearly he follows in footsteps of his namesake: A prime candidate for the killfile.
  20. Bummer....any grogs think any German or Italian units would come close enough to work?
  21. I am curious if anyone is planning to put together some Vichy versus Allies scenarios. If I remember Morehead correctly, there were some pretty good scraps in the Levant and of course in Morocco. Where else would anyone suggest looking for info? P.S. Will the OOB for Vichy forces be included in the game? [ November 25, 2003, 04:54 PM: Message edited by: bboyle ]
  22. I paid heavily for not making that assumption.....
  23. I think the result would have been much like that posited in "Fatherland". The Cold War would have been fought between Germany and the US with the wild card being the survival of active military resistance in the Soviet Union. For Germany to decisively help the Japanese seems to me to be somewhat of a stretch. The US would inherit at least part of the British Fleet and would be able to beat Japan, reinforce and defend China, support whatever rump state that was left of Russia and then to top it off would have gotten nukes first. Finally, in this fantasy football version of the ensuing stalemate, who do you think would have been best able to marshall allies, create proxy forces and appeal to subject peoples best...the overtly racist Nazis or the democratic United States? I'd give the Nazi's twenty or so years before the whole thing fell in on them.
  24. I'm definitely up for it in the future. Mondays and Wednesdays are much clearer on the calender. (edited to make sense) [ April 22, 2003, 05:44 PM: Message edited by: bboyle ]
