1. CM is brilliant!!!!. No doubting that. If you reduce the scope to a FPS it wouldn't be CM it would be Operation Flashpoint or alike. If you Increase it it would be Operational Art of War or alike. CM is a very individual game that i believe is perfect. If you change the scope you change the game. I only play extremely large games in CM. Because i enjoy them alot more than smaller ones. I would like to see a game similar to CM on a larger scale. I wouldn't like to see BTS change the size/scope of the game. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
2. Yeah thats what they are supposed to be. Anyone remember the Operational Art of War version 2 opening movie? It had tanks driving into preprepared dug outs. I believe they also used T-34 turrets as a static defensive AT gun. A bit off subject i know, thinking about "Hull Down" reminded me of it.
3. Well i'm not sure that last post really helped ya there kipanderson. The best way i can explain it simply is. If some vehicle crew sees a Panther on the north side of the hill then the friendly Hellcat on the south side of the hill can't "Automatically see it". Basically every unit has to "see" the enemy to know it's there, intelligence isn't "automatically" passed about the entire battallion. There are exceptions to this such as units within command radius and vehicles that have radios etc. Thats the basics of it. I'm not sure how it will be implemented in the game but i'm sure 99% of us will be happy with it. Stix
4.
quote:
Originally posted by Paco QNS: Disagree. Rear Admiral David G. Farragut. ((In other versions I have read: "Damn the torpedoes and full speed ahead"))

Well i took that one directly out of my many books here. Either way does it really matter mate?. It was said a long time ago by a famous captain showing fierce strength, courage and determination in the heat of battle. Stix
5. While we are sort of on the topic of Rules and the website. Is there anything else hard to understand on the website? As you can see my HTML skills are very poor but text is easy I'll get Iron Duke to clarify the arty rules for me and change them on the website. Is there anything else that needs changing?
6. I have been collecting a few quotes for the past month or so. They are not all military but i'm just going to cut & paste. "You don't want to die for your country, you wanna make the other bastard die for his" - Patton "War is a continuation of state policy by other means" - Clausewitz "Git thar fustest with the mostest" - Nathan Forrest "Full speed ahead and damn the torpedoes!" Admiral Porter "Aviation is good for sport, but for the army it is useless" - General Foch "We shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight on the streets and in the fields, we shall fight on the hills, we shall never surrender" - Winston Churchill "In times of peace, prepare for war." - George Washington "The next world war will be fought with stones" - Albert Einstein 1949 "The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants. It is it's natural manure" - Thomas Jeferson 1787 "Genius is 1% inspiration, 99% perspiration" - Thomas Edison 1878 "Arms alone are not enough to keep the peace - it must be kept by men.- J. F. Kennedy 1962 "I don't know what effect these men will have on the enemy, but by god, they frighten me" - The Duke of Wellington France 1813 "If a man hasn't discovered something he would die for, he isn't fit to live" Martin Luther King "In this world nothing is certain but death and taxes" - Benjamin Franklin "When you succeed, give all the credit to others; when you fail, take all the blame" - General Dwight D. Eisenhower "Before yielding victory to the enemy, wait until he wrests it from you" - Napolean "To subdue your enemy without fighting is the supreme excellence." - Sun Tzu "There is nothing like god on earth but a general on a battlefield" - U.S Civil war Colonel. "Lack of weapons is no excuse for defeat" - Lt. General Renya Mutaguchi, Commanding General, Japanese Fifteenth Army, 1944-1945 "For great aims we must dare great things" - Von Clausewitz "As I walk through the Valley of Death, I will fear nothing, for I am the meanest mother f%$#er in the valley" - George S. Patton "In military operations timing is everything" - Wellington 1800. "An ounce of sweat will save a gallon of blood" - George S. Patton "A risk is a chance you take; if it fails you can recover. A gamble is a chance taken; if it fails, recovery is impossible" - Rommell I hope you liked them. 1 or 2 of these may of been taken from people's signatures on this forum if so i apolagise, yadda yadda. 7.
quote:
Originally posted by Peter Panzer: maximus: ...know of any place where a fella can still download directx 7.0a?

I'm not sure if you can still get it from microsoft. If you want it just send me an Email and i send you 7.0a if you like. I even have the upgrade from 7 to 7.0a if thats any help.
8. I think BTS knows what we want but also knows whats possible for them, AT THIS POINT. I'm hoping very much that alot of things we want for CM2 that don't make will be implemented in CM3 after the engine re-write. Hopefully a campaign system and all the other goodies we want for CM1 now!!!. Just gunna have to be patient.
9. I believe the stuart is one of the best infantry killing weapon's in the game. It's 37mm gun doesn't pack much of a HE punch but it's 3 mg's do!!!. I race them right up to enemy infantry when i find them, especially when the infantry are in front of cover. This way your only threat is enemy hand held AT weapons. I have had enormous success doing this with stuarts. I very rarely loose them when doing this either, the only occasions have been when i didn't have good intel of enemy composition and i ran them right into the heart of an enemy force. They can easily suppress and kill 1 tight platoon but when numbers start getting higher than this it makes life very difficult.
10. Yeah that's what i think. Even if they are given a very high strength rating they should be able to be destroyed. Hopefully this will change in CM2
11. Ah ok then. I thought a few demo charges out hits from a Priest or somekink would eventually clear it. I quess not. Road blocks stay!!!.
12. Just a question, is it possible to knockout roadblocks with engineers? I thought this would be a pretty simple job for a Engineer platoon but in a recent scenario i had a crack platoon sitting next to a roadblock with no affect. I tried targetting the roadblock and all they did was fire small arms at it. Can these things be taken out?
13. Thnx for that hal i might try that one first.
14. Yeah sorry mate i understood what you where saying but didn't explain myself well in my last post. It is a great idea but why is it i hear a "It's beyond the games scope" comming on?
15. Great Idea Triumvir. I would love to be able to bring down individual shots. I just played a scenario with 2 7.2inch spotters each with only 10 rounds. It would be great to be able to bring them down singulary rather than the standard 4 shot Salvo.
16. Just a question for those that have been around. Which "Mini-Campaign" dp you feel to be the most "Challenging" out of 1. ANY PORT AFTER A STORM 2. NO REST FOR THE WEARY 3. AGAINST ALL ODDS I've downloaded them all and will play them all but i don't get a lot of time to play CM. So if i can't get quantity i'll have to stick with Quality. and suggestions?
17. Combined Arms is definitely the key to CM. Using all of your squads to maximum effect is not easy to do but generally who ever does it the best wins the game. I'm not a fan of the LMG42 but it has it's advantages and used right is probarly a very effective unit.
18.
quote:
Originally posted by SuperTed: You're also talking to yourself...

Thats alright, thats only the first sign of madness.
19. Play a scenario called Counter Attack at carentan as allied. It is a good way to learn the effectiveness of infantry vs Armour.
20. Just a reminder, the AKoTM website can be found at. AKoTM Tourney
21. For those of you that have joined Iron Duke's AKoTM Tourney I've made a small website for it. It isn't anything very flash and i haven't finished it yet (Been running short on time) but it will do for now. Let me know if you have any suggestions. 1 word of warning before you look at it at. It isn't very pretty, no nice little tank graphics or anything like that yet Akotm Tourney page Suggestions, Feedback welcome Stix
22. Come on guys ya better find out. It makes all the difference
23. Well i haven't even thought of buying another game since CM Now i play only 2 games, CM and Falcon 4. Both have a great support from hex editors, mod makers, graphic desiners etc. Of course CM2 will change that
24. Well this is just a quess but i would say it would be hard to direct an artillery strike when you have your head buried in a fox hole.
