  1. There's an app for the PC called SnagIt that looks promising. It might be the SnapzPro of the Windows world. One thing to keep in mind is that video capture eats up disk space - You can find yourself with a 700MB movie in no time. Gyrene
  2. I've made a couple of movies with CMBB & CMBO on my Mac, and I've been working on a way to get both my PC and Mac working together to improve my video captures. Follow the link in my sig for a couple of CM movies. Gyrene
  3. Beautiful looking Mod, mchlstrt!! The reason why Mac-made mods often look too dark on many Windows systems is because most PC monitors are usually set to TV gamma and are seldom ever calibrated. There's nothing wrong with the mod - Once a PC monitor is calibrated properly (Or however close you can get with stock Windows color tools) it looks "right". I had the same situation with my mods and saw it first hand on my own PC at home, but a few minutes with Adobe Gamma, got me straightened out. Now getting PC users to turn away from that horrible 2.2 Gamma is the tricky part. Gyrene
  4. Whatever you do, you must make sure that you have a good set of railroad tracks! Rumor is, that there's a really nifty RR mod out there somewhere.... Gyrene
  5. I was a die hard OS 9 supporter and I actually had to force myself to use OS X for a straight month before I got used to it (And that was back in the early 10.0.4 days). OS X is absolutely worth your time to learn and really not that bad to figure out - What you gain far outweighs what you leave behind in OS 9, and with a dual boot system you can always go back. 6. CMBB doesn't work with Panther from my tests BUT I do get much farther along than I did under any previous OS X version. I can actually see the map and units, although all trees and doodads are gone, along with all the control buttons. What is displayed looks fine and at full resolution (1280 x 1024 in my case) I can't move the map or get any response from the game, but it is a step in the right direction. The screen shot I took turned up junk. Gyrene
  7. If Guy Sajer was here (And real and not 80 years old) he would kick your ass, you party pooper! Gyrene
  8. Lots. Quad 50's in all incarnations have been used against ground troops and vehicles in WWII, Korea and Vietnam. Gyrene
  9. Those axial flow jets were actually designed to be overhauled between every 10 hours of flight. This was simply logistical decision as far as ive read. Making engine life longer would have meant using costly and scarce materials which would have decreaced production dramatically. Instead they went for cheaper materials and recycling. In 1945 there were loads of latest fighters just scattered around german airfields without fuel to fly more than handful of them. </font>
  10. I wouldn't have heard him if he was 150 meters out and people are shooting and I have my face in the dirt. So I'm the right flank? If the ambush is 200m or more away it means that whoever is in the trench screwed up and sprung it too early. I get the MG42 talking against the treeline and have every other man return fire to keep them from thinking too much about hugging the dirt. Being that I'm am the right flank of my company and my platoon & company are drifting off away to my left, I tell my platoon leader to kiss my ass as he should know better than ordering a head-on assault on a dug in enemy machine gun across open ground- That is no job for an unsupported 8 man squad. Depending on the severity of the incoming fire and the rate of movement of my company away from me I would probably order a break contact in bounds (Assault rifles & rifles covering for MG & then vice versa - MG goes first in case it gets dropped along the way) towards the rest of the company to a better position to continue covering my platoon's & company's flank. Whatever I would do I would not head up the gully - If whoever set the ambush had half a brain I'd have some mines or at least a waiting MG lined up on it. If the platoon leader wants to regroup and take out the trench in front off me, then fine, I'll do it when he shows up to give me cover, otherwise I'll continue to hold my flank guard and drift with the platoon. 11. How much or how little rifles were used really depends on where the fighting was taking place. Machine guns and artillery ruled in places where they were at their best, obviously, but there were a great many situations, particularly in city fighting and in jungles were it all came down to a grunt's rifle and grenades and in other situations nothing other than a flame thrower and a satchel charge would do. On the subject of MP44's, if all the German army were given them they would have a gigantic logistics nightmare keeping up with the enormous rise in ammo use. Gyrene
  12. My Apple rep is at the Mothership for a week (i.e. Cupertino) and I haven't been able to finnagle the stuff from him yet. Gyrene
  13. It's a sin to let an AndrewTF mod post drift down without a *bump* Gyrene
  14. Stoffel and Abbott have kicked my butt a couple of times - I highly recommend both. Gyrene
  15. I've contacted my Apple mole, I should have a copy of the MacTest CD from "Beyond the Firewall" soon... Gyrene
  16. I haven't been able to get to my Apple rep yet, but in the mean time... bump Gyrene
  17. Laxx: I might have to abuse my Apple connections and get a hold of that MacTest cd and try it out on one of the new OS X only Macs at work. There are software packages that facilitate the conversion of Direct X to Open GL on the Mac, I wonder if BFC has looked into using them? MacDX is a good example. I no longer buy any Mac software that isn't OS X native and lately all my computer game dollars have been going to my Windows computer. Gyrene
  18. I've always thought that Der Kessel was the best looking CM site and host to the best scenarios. Thank you for hosting my mod and for your hard work for the community! I agree on the OS X part... Having to boot back into OS9 has brought my CMBB playing down to zero, and as a user of both Windows & Mac I would much rather support the Mac version of a game when available. Your site will be missed. Gyrene
  19. Glad you liked them. They were fairly popular in the CMBO era and used to be at Der Kessel until they got out of the Mod business. Matter of fact, I didn't even notice they weren't up anymore until tonight. The winter version is part of Tom's Battle of the Bulge mod. Gyrene
