  1. Not all of OSX... but this (my bad about $150 its only $129). But this Jaguar then Panther stuff is silly. Just call Panther OSXI for goodness sake if you want to charge another 129 dollars. </font>
  2. I have sort of a tough decision coming up when CMAK gets released - I'm running OS X full time on my Mac at home, and booting back into OS 9 for anything is not an option as I have several services and apps running in the background that have to be on all the time and OS 9, well, sucks. Now, I have a Windows PC for games, but if I get the PC version I'm basically artificially hurting the Mac sales figures, and when given the option for the same price I always get the Mac version. I wonder how much of a hit CMAK-Mac sales will take now that so many Macs are running OS X and that many won't do OS 9 at all. Is this a problem for anyone else? 3. The PC has a better video card, so it gets the nod there. (128MB Ti4200 vs 32MB GeForce 2MX) but that 2.6Ghz P4 isn't really faster than my 533mhz Dual G4, or at least it doesn't feel any faster. The Mac has better sound because it works 100% of the time, unlike that jumble of drivers in the PC. So it's a toss up there. I'll have a 3.06Ghz HT P4 and a new Intel board soon, so the extra speed would be nice for turn crunching. What sucks is that I like to support Mac titles, but booting into OS9 to run a brand new game sucks. My point is that if I didn't have a Windows computer I wouldn't buy the game at all. OS X should be a free upgrade because... And when as it ever $150? Gyrene

  5. 600MB/minute is way too much! Hell, Raw DV is "only" 216MB/minute. A reasonable setting should get you 40MB per minute. Gyrene
  6. It did cover penetration in great detail, though. Gyrene
  7. I have an old school CMBO one in my site in the Photos section. I've made several, but bandwidth is a problem. Gyrene
  8. I missed it the last time. I'm up for it. Gyrene
  9. Is there at least a list of all the mods that were on the site? I'm sure we can get everybody to pitch in and recover all the mods at least. COG, did you have the framework of that lovely Domino site saved at least? Gyrene
  10. [Due to the passing of Mr. Johnny Cash, Mike Ness, frontman of Social Distortion will take the mike] "I fell into a burning ring of fire..." "...down, down, down, and the flames they went higher..." "and it burns, burns, burns...The ring of fire..." "...The ring of fire..." Gyrene

  12. An important element of true CAS, which I'm not sure if it has been brought up yet in this thread, is how much "live" interaction there is between the aircraft & the controller. We could roughly break down CAS in levels, fill in the blanks or clear up my mistakes as needed: -Level 1: Preplanned airstrikes - No interaction between Requesting Force (RF) and Aircraft (AC) - "Bombs will drop at x by y at Noon." -Level 2: Opportunity airstrike - No interaction again - Friendly AC loiter beyonf FEBA (Forward Edge of Battle Area) and hit the enemy's rear. -Level 3: Opportunity airstrike with visual trigger - One way interaction from RF in the manner of preplanned color smoke or similar method. AC will loiter in Level 2 missions and attack color smoke when spotted. Crude interaction from AC to RF is possible with dropped messages. -Level 4: Radio requested airstrike by parent unit - Airstrike request is relayed to parent unit (Co to Bat, Bat to Div, etc) by radio or runner, airstrike is requested by parent unit. No interaction between orginal RF & AC. -Level 5: Radio request airstrike by unit in need - First true CAS as we know today: The unit in need makes the request for support directly to AC's parent unit. Some interaction between AC & RF - Single pass missions, one FAC per Division. -Level 6: Direct control of AC by RF - A trained FAC will have direct control over AC or Multiple AC. One FAC per Battalion or above. Wave Off & Second Pass possible, returning Intel by AC to RF is common, as is the use of AC to extend RF's communications range to parent unit. First used by 1st Marine Division in Korea. -Level 7: Direct control of AC by RF without dedicated FAC, with Mission Customization - First seen during Vietnam - RF's FAC can request what ordnance he needs from a pool of waiting multi-service AC. Response from AC is near instant due to the large number of loitering AC at the disposal of the troops on the ground. FAC duties can and are often assumed by Company & Platoon commanders who are now trained in it's application. Level 8 could possibly be a variation of level 7, but with Airborne FAC's, which were in use as early as in the PTO in WWII, reached their zenith with the LOacHes and BirdDogs in Vietnam, and have since declined quite a bit with the retirement of the OV10. 13. One NFR (Not for retail) copy of JASC Paint Shop Pro 8. I make a living selling computer junk and I get a lot of free software, so I'm giving this one away to Modder or someone who could use it. It's a CD only, fully functional and is a popular Photoshop alternative with Modders, it goes for about $80 retail. First dibs will go to all current Modders, followed by anyone who's ever PBEM'd with me or played in the Onion Wars (All five of you know who you are ) If you already have Photoshop you won't need this, so please give someone who can really use it a chance. Just email me, thanks. Gyrene
  14. ...If you look at only the US Army in Europe and Africa. The USMC deployed in the Pacific a CAS system that was arguably the best of WWII and widely copied after the war. Gyrene
  15. How can you find anything in there, the place is like a Goodwill store! Gyrene
  16. The M42 & the older M19 are very similar, both based on the Chaffee. The M42 has the turret in the front, probably making it more suitable for ground fire. (Used in that role at Khe Sahn by US Army) Gyrene
  17. Axe2121 you useless pillock. 'Bugger off' as an opening remark is a Trademark of the Cesspool. Our lawyers will be contacting your probation officer on this issue. </font>
  18. Good cushion sole socks - Change them every 8 miles or so. Put them in your shirt to dry them. Break in your boots well before you go on your hike. Try some Dr. Scholl's boot liners, make sure they fit exactly right. Carry your backpack properly. High & snug is good, low & loose is bad, extra padding only looks goofy at the start of a hike. Pack clothes and other soft stuff on the side of the bag that goes against your back. Sounds simple, but you'd be surprised... Take sandals for river crossings unless you want to be miserable 2 miles past the ford. Heard that making sock liners out of nylon stockings works great to prevent blisters - Full crotchless pantyhose is optional... For the "other" chafe areas: Gold Bond Medicated powder. Military gear is evil and designed for discomfort, misery & character building. Get the civilian stuff. Have fun and if in bear country, make noise regularly so you don't surprise the bruins. Gyrene
  19. I studied under the best - Poor Old Spine - Whose CRISP UNCLUTTERED STYLE was a shining beacon in a time of darkness. Gyrene
  20. Very nicee mod! Glad to see there's still such quality work being done for CMBO! Gyrene

  22. When in comes to CMBB mods, Tanks and Juju have the best buildings, AndrewTF has the uniforms market cornered (And the best Jeep!), Tom has made some of the best full terrain mod packs, Mr. Noobie & MikeyD have some great tanks. Any of these guys' stuff is a sure thing. You might want to look through CMBO mods also, there's a lot of really great stuff from guys like Gordon, Makjager, Fernando & Magua whose pieces or the entire thing will work with CMBB. Gyrene
  23. Ha! I was just about to post that...if you do the photo's, don't include infantry or tank commanders, throws "realistic looking" out the window... Sorry, but it's true. It's harder to draw people vs tanks, isn't it? </font>
