  1. A couple of questions for the users and/or creators of PBEM HELPER. I've downloaded and installed, very easy and good looking interface. Now, since most opponents don't use this, I get the regular .txt files created by CMBO. If I understand correctly, I now must save the attachments to C:\My Documents\PBEM\CMBO, a folder automatically created by PBEM HELPER for this purpose. Correct? Now PBEM HELPER sees these files and shows them in a list as 'play' files ready to run. Meanwhile it has now deleted them from 'MY DOCUMENTS' folder and moved them to the CMBO\PBEM folder, correct? While there is a space for the password, P.H. does not 'remember' it from one move to the next, is that correct? If so, that is a pain as with eight to ten games going, who can remember the passwords? (no, I don't use the same one for each). After retyping the password, the game boots up great with the correct file and works like usual. Now CMBO creates my .txt file, automatically putting it in the CMBO\PBEM folder. PBEM HELPER now sees this new file and shows it as a 'new' file, ready to email. E-mailing works great with this utility, although I override the .pbm tag and leave the original .txt, once again because most players do not use this format. Is this right? Now I have two files in my CMBO\PBEM folder, the orinal attachment from my opponent and my newly created file for emailing, but with eight games going I soon will have a giant mess there, with many many files (yes I number them 01,02, etc). Currently with OneClick, I keep each players attachments in a separate folder under the CMBO\PBEM\... folders. Nice and tidy, easy to find again if you have to. Are these the pros and cons, or have I missed something here? I think I really like the new PBEM HELPER, but the missing password and mass of files building up may push me back to OneClick. Someone convince me one way or the other... Thanks. Shoeman [ 05-12-2001: Message edited by: mrcobbler ]
  2. I use 800x600. It looks fine now, I must have been having a bad dream or something! And yet it looked that way for several hours this afternoon. It's good now. Sorry for the wasted post here. Shoeman
  3. Manx, what's with the pic overlapping the right column on your site? Or is it just my sorry browser? Didn't do that yesterday. Shoeman
  4. WOW, the hammer came down on that post, didn't it? Shoeman
  5. Been trying to stay out of this post, but can't. Try SurlyBen's 'blueskies' mod. He has done a good job with the corners. Does not have all the weather yet(?) but what is there is really nice for the low-res guys. (Tiger, I love all your other mods though!!) Shoeman
  6. Most excellent! I've had a bailed out crew roust a machine gun crew (already depleted, however) and had the machine gun crew even surrender! Definitely an enjoyable movie to watch! Lesson: don't waste any troops at all, even the empty mortars and crews can be used for something. Shoeman
  7. you'll find the mod number list at 'COMBAT MISSIONS' under 'workshop'. Just looked at it now. Shoeman
  8. The scene: 1st turn as Brits, ME, moving to take a small town. Moved a beloved Cromwell up beside a small bldg in first 30 secs, now set up nice and tight waiting for his Pz IV to come down the far road. Sure enough, here he comes, fast as a bat-out-of-H... Cromwell lines up a shot and misses. OK. Pz IV shoots wildly and misses, still coming fast, 300 meters out. Crom misses again, OK, now Pz IV shoots again on the dead run, kills the Crom totally! Is this just my bad luck, or should I have more respect for a full-speed Pz IV from now on? I understand the luck factor, but if this is a common occurrance I'll have to be more careful. Shoeman
  9. How do you get the Victory flags placed in the spot you want when creating a scenario? They seem to go to middle of nowhere now, and I can't seem to get them to change location. Shoeman
  10. I recently learned a valuable lesson about surrender. The QB scenario was heavy snow in the pine forested mountains, a 'slogfest' at best. Getting my butt kicked the whole time, it was getting less and less interesting and fun. My Germans(me?) knew little about snow, and died all over the place. Thinking about surrender, to move to a more exciting QB. However, in the last three turns my Hetzer (useless and stuck the whole game) managed to get around the mountains finally, and cleaned out an M4, TD, and AC, and suddenly my ragtag remains of troops are kicking some butt themselves! I may still have lost too much to win overall but can see the advantage to sticking it out. Lesson learned. Shoeman
  11. good stuff. the reverse would be true for the attacker? he should avoid all the above situations if possible, never do the obvious. Shoeman
  12. author = Peter Chamberlain you can find it at Amazon.com for about $16 plus shipping. Not hardback, but surely the same book. Really complete. Shoeman
  13. You probably saw Juju's great looking new markers mod with all the national medals as the LostSightOf marker. Not yet on a site, I think. Right Juju? Shoeman
  14. of course, we all know that it really doesn't matter how many rounds you get with a Sherman, 40 or 140, you only get to use about three if you're lucky. Shoeman
  15. I love this forum, you get such interesting info all the time! You guys know lots of good stuff! Shoeman
  16. He obviously sent you back the same file you sent him, instead of his newly created one. If you name the file '......01.txt' and then he names his file '......02.txt' etc, it works great and never screws up. Shoeman
  17. SurlyBen, any progress on the 'overcast' looks yet? Your summer and evening mods are great. Looking forward to the rest???? Shoeman
  18. nothing. If you get hit by air strikes you're unlucky, if you get to hit the other guy, he's unlucky. Shoeman
  19. Hey, it's back up! Of course we all have to kick in a message to see how the new sucker works!
  20. Tom, shame on you for looking at this website while you're at work! You'll influence the younger generation, or something... Shoeman
  21. Ahhhh, love that Priest! If I'd had that mod earlier yesterday I'd probably not lost mine to a blasted Hetzer -- it would have been camoed in the trees better. Shoeman
  22. I replaced it with the 'taps' wav file. It cuts off the end but is a much more muted ending. Don't remember where the 'taps' wav is found though. Shoeman
  23. Surly, these are excellent. My low-res (Boooo!) Voodoo card thanks you too. Now make the overcast ones for three seasons; take a lot of care here, 'cause I think these are the toughest of the lot to get just right. Thanks. Shoeman
  24. Yes they're better than the do-it-yourself resizing (I tried both), but there is still a couple of nagging problems. A 'V' still shows where the bmps come together, and is more noticeable when there are less fluffy clouds and more straight lines. The summer skies are beautiful, the evenings are beautiful, the overcast ones have more of that 'V' effect. Make your own decision, they're easy to put in and out. I've used Kump's night skies, resized and get the black/black that looks good. Stars don't do well with resizing. Shoeman
