1. I'd appreciate a copy of that - I could do with improving my arty responses soddball@hotmail.com
 2. If I remember rightly, the ground pressure from an average person's weight is 7 psi (please correct me if I'm wrong) so the tanks with 13 and 14 psi would be the equivalent of a 22 stone soldier with size 9 shoes walking across a muddy field (ish). Would appreciate more info from someone who knows more than me (not difficult).
 3.
quote:
5107 posted 10-04-2001 06:05 PM -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- quote: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Originally posted by Rodimzew: This tip comes just one day to late. I lost two M36 and a jumbo trying to get them hull down. Lessons learned : If you are hunting up a hill, you should give also a reverse command on beforehand. Otherwise your tank may stop hull down, but face a wild bunch of enemy tanks, blazing you to hell on short notice. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- You have it. My day (and PBEM) was ruined when I had two M4A3 Shermans pounce on the exposed rear of a 250/9 HT. I had carefully given the move order such that my two Sherm's LOS would have a small house between them the position of a known StuG and PanzerIV. I didn't reverse them after they were to "collect" the HT, since I thought the house would block LOS. Little did I know, it was a "magic" house that becomes invisible from time to time....otherwise the Germans must've had some wild new optics that day in Sep'44. Both of his tanks shot THROUGH the house, KO'ing 2 of my 3 tanks, and that was the turning point of the battle (side note: my [vanilla] Shermans took a total of 3 non-KO side penetrations at 200/300m before the killing blows...maybe the Panzer AP shells were slowed down from busting through the house!!!)

That game sounds familiar Yeah, whilst it broke the back of the US assault on my right flank it was a sucky bit of luck and if I'm honest I didn't deserve to clobber those tanks the way I did. That game has not had a dull turn since about turn 3 As for this, from my OTHER PBEM opponent:
quote:
USUALLY she will stop and take her shot ASAP, but not always. usually works good for me, and usually i will get a good shot. but i will usually always miss just becuase my tanks never hit!

I don't suppose that includes drilling my hull-down StuH42 from the front with your Sherman does it? pah.
 4. Avaunt, Grog, for this is a taunting thread, and no grogology will be tolerated here. Thy buttocks are but rivules in the digestion of my soul!
 5. Good. Just so long as I am allowed to mock people for their singular lack of intelligence and belief that discussion of the GKz-212a optics pack on the early PanzerPantyWester K/42h is even remotely important or socially acceptable. Oh, and when do we start? And edited because I bloody well wanted to. So. [ 10-03-2001: Message edited by: Soddball ]
 6. Does it allow NotGrogs like me who are just asking for a kicking across the battlefields of Normandy to hurl abuse at their social inferiors, or do I have to hang around outside the local primary school to find someone short enough to challenge?
 7. .
quote:
Ewwww, Tunbridge... Ewwww, Kent...

No, Tunbridge Wells. Tonbridge is a very different sack of potato skins. Only a "Policy Analyst" with his head inserted so firmly in the government's bottom that it is impossible to tell where one ends and the other begins could confuse the two. Of course, there's no real world outside London, or we'd have seen some sensible policies for the rural districts.
quote:
What kind of social 'life' is that?

One has to do the best one can with one's meagre resources. When I am wealthy and rich and a carbuncle upon the raw anus of humanity, with a title such as "Policy Analyst", perhaps I will have a real social life.
quote:
Meeting of the Conservative Club, trying to chat up 65-year old ladies with blue-rinsed hair and views on civil liberties that would make Stalin look like a model-democrat?

Them girls is real goers, mostly because they already have a riding crop and a copy of Mein Kampf to beat me with. Still, I suppose someone whose nostrils and brain are clogged with the stench of car fumes and pollution must be incapable of taunts that would strike fear into the tory heartland. Oh, and - Smiley Liberation!
 8. Yes. Me. I've got my glad rags on ready. And I offer further grovels to sulkychops Germanboy for not making himself clearer
 9.
quote:
Now, this was a small socialite get-together where just some of us were to meet over a pint and make fun of Peter, as we usually do. By my grace and tolerance, the invitation was extended to more people, on short notice. A test of mental flexibility that you clearly failed.

I crave your forgiveness. Having read the title of the thread I assumed that there was an unannounced Local Boy bash. I now see that you were withholding the pleasures of LunDun beer from us poor NotLocal people, an act of discrimination for which you will pay, well, at least the price of a pint of beer. For that is what they cost.
quote:
Look, just because you Provincials can not cope with 24 hour warnings does not mean that we have to make up for it by submitting an annual schedule beforehand - so there. If you are north of the Watford Gap, may I inquire how you get to a computer? Last time I checked they did not have electricity there. How's Dick Turpin?

I'm south of the Watford Gap (Tunbridge Wells, Kent). But I'm also busy tonight - I have a full social life, you see (coff choke) Don't confuse us sophisticated country folk for the poor saps in the north.
quote:
Anyways - I will make sure that the next one is properly arranged and that you get an invitation on hand-made paper, signed by HRH Brenda. How's that?

Sourpuss. What's wrong with Agnes? She's more important than Brenda. I bet it's because Brenda lives in the North, isn't it? Agnes is more local. You londoners, you're all the same. *sob* *whimper*
 10. Dammit. Don't you guys give us provincials any warning now, will you? Let me know next time there's a meeting please, cos I'll be there.
 11.
quote:
Get some new specs, Granpa. Look in the middle and you will see Cathedral and ElGuapo, each of whom will soon be on the edge of 17. Then on the right is WWB_99 who has not yet learned how to drive. Damned English gits....

Speak up son! You youngsters-mutter mutter. And as for the one who has not yet learned how to drive - my mum's the same, and she's had her licence for 35 years.
 12. If you're running King Tigers vs. Pershings, something that I discovered on PBEM was that the KT is largely invulnerable beyond 1,000 metres to the 90mm gun - I had half a dozen shots ping off the turret and front armour. It's capable of taking out the Pershings, however, at that range and beyond. As soon as my opponent's Pershings got down to 950m, front turret penetration *sizzle*.
 13. LOL! You're all so old! There's not a whippersnapper amongst you!
 14. I'm pretty sure you can mix battle types. I'm playing "Canadian Armageddon" and all of a sudden on one of the 7 battles my Canadian troops have appeared in foxholes, a sure sign that the whoopits are about to strike the fan.
 15. I played QB vs AI, 500pts, computer picks last night, and was handed a pair of MG jeeps as my only non-infantry units. The AI as Axis had 3 HT's, one with a 75mm. I found them invaluable for speedy flanking of enemy vehicles, and for no loss I was able to knock out those HT's, even though it was p***ing down with rain. Don't keep them still, keep them running round in circles, use them to target light armour, not infantry, and you'll have as much fun as I did.
 16. Looks like sound tactics to me, and well done to you for choosing to scout ahead of your main force. Maybe your opponent felt it was gamey because he suffered for it
 17. That was really poor of the AI. I always said it was a gamey bastard.
 18. I'm always wary about shopping on the net. If you're concerned, get a book such as The Internet for Dummies which will explain how internet security works (basically, it was never designed to be secure, but it can be now). I shop regularly at Amazon (online store) and this is one of the few other places I've placed my credit card number. No problems so far, their server seems secure enough. And yes, the game is a worthy investment because your son will spend SO MUCH time playing this game he won't want to buy another one for months. I have saved myself a fortune buying Combat Mission. Plus, he'll get loads of girls and win the lottery. And he says you can have some of the girls if you want to.
 19. A big help when trying to identify vehicles is the sound from the weapon. Tigers and Panthers, for example, have very distinctive sounds. This can help you correctly identify a unit even when your soldiers are being thick as two short, fat planks.
 20. It would be particularly suitable since the maximum weapon range in Battletech is around 700m. I'm not sure how you could actually MODEL 'mechs in the game - they have alot moving parts and you'd need to include hand-to-hand combat, falling, jumping etc, but I like the idea.
 21.
quote:
5) Spends weekend in SIPD lockup getting firendly with large gentleman from New Jersey named Bubba who would just love to hear your CM stories.

I'm Bubba's bitch. Get your own big boy. As for that 'bone' joke - I'm glad someone got there before me.
 22. That was an excellent post, Makjager. Thanks. Would you have any info on numbers of planes, to satisfy the figure-fixated members of these boards?
 23. I like the idea of this as opposed to a fixed emplacement such as an MG bunker. I would imagine such 'nests' would be very vulnerable to mortar and arty fire (having no cover) but they would certainly be a good way of providing light emplacements. The question is who would have access to them and under what situations? (Assault/Attack QB for defender, or purchaseable?) Did you have any more ideas on whether they would be available to axis/allied forces and how many weapons/crew they would include? Incidentally, how common were mortar emplacements (dug in same as MG but with mortar+crew)? They might be cool to have
