  1. Until very recently my experience with ampulomets did nothing to convince me of their worth. I had never had them knock out a vehicle, and the time I tried to use them to start a fire in a dry wheatfield was also unsuccesful. Playing an early war scenario recently changed my mind somewhat, as they've killed at least one StuG and a pair of lighter vehicles. One question I have about the accuracy of their modelling, however is that the aforementioned StuG was immobilized by the ampulomet before being knocked out. I guess I understand a StuG crew abandoning ship after being immobilized, and taking repeated hits from fire bombs, but I'm wondering about the actual likelihood of an ampulomet causing an immobilization. I realize that tons of variables are taken into account, but about the only way I could think of causing an immobilization would be via a direct hit on the driver's compartment. Otherwise, it seems to me that the whole track and tread system would be pretty impervious to the glass and fuel combo.
  2. Funny, I was just thinking the same thing. Once I figure out which file it is, how would I change it to silence?
  3. Great news, looking forward to it. Ferdinands and Brumbarrs making their debuts in actual historical scenarios, right?
  4. Yes, you can say that last place was just as good as first in that group. At least, that is what I'm telling myself.
  5. Congratulations to all the winners, and good luck to Juha in the finals. Warning to his opponents: he'll try to distract you with links to TATU web sites. Finishing at the bottom of my section is cushioned somewhat by the very close spread. I refuse, however, to be called Juha's Bitch.
  6. This thread should be on page one. Interesting results all around, and while I have a guess who is going to make it out of the Wreck's Bitches reunion tour (certainly not me!), Nabla must be heard from first. On another point, its been uncharacteristically almost 2 days since I've received a turn from Combined Arms. Hmmmm, somebody feverishly writing AARs?
  7. The state of the Aberdeen collection is not a new concern, unfortunately. I think I have an old Squadron/Signal publication bemoaning the rusting away of the Brumbarr, and the pamphlet is dated late '60s, early '70s. BTW, you can make a donation to the museum, or the ordnance foundation such as it is, easy enough to find by doing a google search. Your yearly membership includes a subscription to Military Vehicle magazine, a great asset in case you need a new piston ring for your jeep or a new crank case for your halftrack. More importantly, however, the last issue said something about the museum changing plans from putting up an elaborate warehouse facility that would have cost millions (not really a spending priority in DC these days, I gather), to the plan to build a sturdy and utilitarian structure. I think the new design is the same as the type of building used to quickly put together airport hangers and the like. Anything to improve the situation is fine by me.
  8. Will be in Beantown, unfortunately so can't make it this time, but will be looking forward to the AARs.
  9. Hey Enoch, if you're checking this, my last email bounced b/c your box was apparently full. I'll try again later.
  10. http://www.battlefront.com/cgi-bin/bbs/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=23;t=002491 OK, there is the thread, and it looks like the topic may have been specific to Moltov's, so I'm not sure it helps this query. However, it was interesting to note that 'top penetration' could mean a number of things that weren't exactly 'top penetrations'.
  11. I know this only touches on the 'top penetration' issue, and I haven't experienced the frustration of a Stuka top-penetration without a 'kill', but I posted a thread a few months ago after noticing that some of my partisans had repeated 'top penetrations' to Halftracks with molotovs and there was no ill effects to the HTs. As I recall, Madmatt replied that the label 'top penetration' itself could be somewhat innaccurate, and could account for any number of non-fatal events. I'll see if I can dig up the thread.
  12. Another bump, as I can confirm that reading the B&T Times at the office beats the hell out of actually working...
  13. And I'm still waiting for CMBB that I can play on my cellphone.
  14. If anyone is looking for some more info on the nature of the problem, there is a parallel discussion in the ROW overflow tournament thread that describes what happened.
  15. The above two posts are accurate. When I took a look at the CD last night, I did find the tournament scenarios on the CD. I have not looked at them, obviously, and have no intention of doing so whatsoever. In the interest of fair play and full disclosure, however, I did send emails to Lord Dragon and Treeburst last night disclosing the breach in FOW, and to Rune this morning letting him know the turn of events. Rune's tendering of the scenarios was obviously a complete mistake, and something regrettable but I don't think it should be the end of things. Both LD and I are ROW vets, who have our integrity for this and future tourneys at stake here. I hope that we both have earned/deserve some trust. There are 2 threads now dealing with the subject, in the regular ROW thread and this one. If there is going to be further discussion, perhaps we should stick to one of these threads.
  16. Fun as always, and thanks for the CD, Rune. It'll keep me busy for awhile...
  17. Am still planning on making it for an hour or two, probably noonish, have to look at the train schedule, but will see you guys there.
  18. OK, clearance from the tower received. Barring any extreme weather orkids with flu/cold, I should be able to make it noonish, and be able to stick around for a couple of hours. Looking forward to it.
  19. A Saturday morning bump from the ignominy of page 2. All games going well, most are in the inital contact stages, and the movies are generally nailbiters. My impression is that the quality of these scenarios is very high. One disturbing note, however. Apparently, the rigors of ROW competition have driven Juha A. to some sort of delusional state. He is now quoting George Micheals to me in his emails. And, no, not the "Sports Machine" Michaels. The "Wham!"/arrested in a public bathroom George Michaels. Maybe we should all keep Juha in our thoughts and hope for a full recovery.
  20. Whats this thread doing at the bottom of the page? Have four games going, and have sent files on three of those games today. Haven't received a turn from Bimmer this weekend, and CombinedArms is out of town for a few more days, I think. Anyhow, am looking forward to the contact portion of the battles as it has mostly been positioning thus far. Looks like Enoch is the pace-setter for sending turns back in the early going.
  21. Crap, its been several months since finishing the regular season in ROW2, but I had forgotten how much it bites to be stuck at work and see all the posts about turns going out, movies being watched, etc. Times like these make me wish I was unemployed again, or a student. I guess the only solace is that I can return the favor for some poor schlub half way across the world tonight when I get home.
  22. Not yours, Enoch. I guess I was thinking that you were the one to get that one started, but I assume I am incorrect on that point. Three setups in one evening would be about all I could handle, but I'll get our game off tonight. PS - Sandberg got a raw deal the HOF vote.
  23. Three setups done, three emails sent out. Looking forward to the first movies.
  24. Would hope to make it, at least for a little while, but with a 6-week old baby calling all the shots, I can't make any guarantees. If anyone is on the fence, I can report that, having made a couple of these get-to-gethers, they are worth the effort.
  25. We have a newborn also (3 weeks old), so I'm not very much in control of my schedule these days. I'd certainly try to make it, though.
