  1. I'm definitely a devotee of the computer-pick method, especially during the learning phase. Panzer Leader is correct about getting some unexpected units, but learning to play with Wasps, Puppchen and the like is half the challenge and more than half the joy in my book. Plus, those units might be the type that start showing up regularly on your human-chosen forces, too.
  2. Man, this one took me a two tries to get through against the AI. I would think this wouldnt be that good of a PBEM game, since the whole "surprise" element would be removed. Maybe the attacking at night element would help even things up, but I dunno.
  3. Man, there went an hour of otherwise potentially productive work time. Thanks for the links, but a few more of those and I'll be out of business...
  4. My father in law took a flight on a B-17 for about the same price, and claimed it was a bargain. I guess for 400 bucks you get a story to tell for a lifetime, so.... As for Oshkosh, that is to be seen to be believed. At one point I was looking out the gun turret of a B-17 watching another one take off. Quickest 9 hours of my life, seemed like 15 minutes.
  5. For whatever its worth, I think that the "fun factor" and the "learning factor" are key for deciding when to raise the white flag. If the game is early on, and, even though my armor is toast and my arty spotter was wiped out, well, I might just keep going because a) I might pick up some experience/knowledge by playing the underdog and b)It might still be entertaining for me to play out the string, and certainly more so for the opponent. On the other hand, in your situation when things are hopeless and the other guy probably considers it to be unchallenging mopping up, then I'm all for cutting your losses and getting on to another game in the search for redemption...
  6. All I want is a well positioned Ferdinand with a clear field of fire as far as the eye can see. As for my favorite Russian vehicle, it would be anything within range of the Ferdinand.
  7. I played this op as the British, and found it relatively entertaining. The best part was when I had a Brit Piat team on one side of the bridge, and a Paratroop team on the other side, and they both simultaneously took friendly casualties from each other when a HT crossed between them.
  8. Congrats and best of luck. My 6-mo old daughter is on my lap as I type, and she has learned to be very well behaved as she sits on my lap while I play CM (one move at a time of course).
  9. I was really looking forward to that Sturmovik game, too, and I thought I might check out B-17, the Mighty Eighth, but I've just caught a bad case of the CM bug, and I don't imagine I'll be spending much time on flight sims anytime soon. I picked up a cheap copy of Mig Alley recently, and I've only played around with it once. I'd still like to get my hands on a copy of Panzer Elite, though.
  10. I started on the Villers-Bocage scenario, playing as Wittman. It's pretty easy to play one tank, and if I was still around, I got to try some more tanks and infantry whent the reinforcements arrive. Plus, once I got smoked, it was really easy to start back up, there isn't a lot of setting up before hitting GO. It also helped to gradually play with the Fog of War settings, which helped me pick up on some stuff, too.
  11. 10-4 on that Chupa, although I assume not too many catch the reference....
  12. You chaps forgot the KV-85 ... Wasnt that one pretty rare? As I recall (OK, so its largely from the Panzer Commander game pamphlet) there were only a few of those creatures. The KV-1S was more common, I think.
