Hmm.. Chicago area CM meeting?
Spanish Bombs replied to hellfish's topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)
If Schaumburg is the designated place, I have noticed a place called RAM restaurant and Brewery from the highway. I have never been there, but it does have the advantage of being relatively easy to locate (just north of Woodfield Mall and within sight of the highway), plus I believe it has been there for a little while, and as a rule, microbreweries with crappy beer don't last long. Just an idea, I hope to make it wherever and whenever. -

Damn. Every time that site comes up in any post, I inevitably link to it and end up wasting an hour at least. Make that 2-0 Warphead. -

Juha- was gone for a day or so, but received 5 other files just fine. Sent you an email, let me know if you are still having problems. -

Ditto on this. I've posted one tech problem, ever, on this list, and even though it was a silly little issue, Schullenhaft answered quickly and helpfully. I have noticed that is the norm and not the exception.

OK, so what ARE we supposed to talk about???
Spanish Bombs replied to Maximus's topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)
On the General Discussion forum, KwazyDog says "soon there will probably be more to discuss about CM2." ("Current Events" thread). Notwithstanding the "probably", I could sure go for a new screenshot or a little bit of new details, etc. Throw us a bone, BTS, and there will be plenty of on-topic discussion! -
Looking for a pbem boat assault scen
Spanish Bombs replied to Fate's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
I'm about 90% through with the Polish Airborne scenario via PBEM, playing as the allies. Without any spoilers, I can say that it was certainly a new, challenging and at times frustrating experience. Just figuring out how best to cross a river with a company in any sort of fighting shape is challenging enough. -
Update on Jagdtiger.de

Cool site indeed. Man, that was an hour of my life I'll never get back. Of course, it was spent at work, so its was there for the giving... -
It is actually a pretty difficult scenario to win, but I played the Villers-Bocage scenario lots at the outset. Benefits: very few units (one to start, actually) to have to keep track of, you get to blow stuff up real good with Wittman's Tiger, and small enough to restart and go at again when you get killed (and you will get killed). I think I even played it with no Fog of War setting once, just to make it easier. I think that was the only time I ever made it through the whole scenario with Wittman's Tiger surviving.

Abandoned Tanks in Operations
Spanish Bombs replied to Spanish Bombs's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
Well, thanks for the advice fellas. The 11 or 12 funeral pyres that used to be German armor make quite the sight to behold on the battlefield. I guess I'll figure out what's left behind at the next battle. As for the small caliber AT weapons, well, I had a Greyhound plink at a knocked out Armored Car for about 7 or 8 shots one turn. I also had a 'zook fire 6 of its 8 rounds in the same turn at an adjacent StuH. No fires, but the repeated "Side hit knocked out" messages were pretty cool to watch. I think I even giggled at the sound. -
Abandoned Tanks in Operations
Spanish Bombs replied to Spanish Bombs's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
Thanks for all the input. My independent research tells me that the Allies frequently put a few rounds into a German tank, just to make sure nobody was home and that it was unreparable. However, the Germans were unlikely to do the same because of ammo shortages. Anyhow, its a day-night-day-night-day-night op, so maybe I'll save the demolition work for the night if I can't finish it during the day. One problem, however, is that, even my infantry with demo packs cannot be ordered to use them on the abandoned tanks. That would be a cool technique. Come to think of it, didn't Audie Murphy in To Hell and Back sneak out of a farm house during the night for the express purposes of destroying an abandoned German Tank. Great book, btw. -
Forgive me if this has been covered before, and it probably has, the Search function wasn't working for me today. Anyhow, I'm in an armor-heavy PBEM op, and have succeeded in reducing the opponent's tank force pretty well. There are a few turns left in the first battle, and I realized that many of his useless tanks are "abandoned" and not "knocked out". If I have the time ammo, would it not be a good idea to put a few extra rounds into these empty tanks? I recall there being some chance of recovery options before the next battle, and if I can avoid having to kill a Stug or a Panther twice in this operation, well that seems like a no-brainer.

I saw some of the "Making of...". Saw Tigers for sure, Shermans, and I think a Jagdpanther and maybe a Stug with Schurzen. Also, they talked briefly about the efforts of mocking up a PzIII from a British modern APC. Had to add the sixth road wheel and all, looks like they were fairly attentive to detail. Of course, had they just waited, they could have gotten the PzIII off Ebay for $100 K.

Excuses for the wife/girfriend
Spanish Bombs replied to ned lud's topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)
Honey, sitting in the computer room yelling "Get some, Get Some!!!" is much better than being out there getting some... I did make her watch a movie the other day where I took out 7 tanks and only lost one, however. She did ask, why are you giggling? -
Do you pass the fitness test, lard-ass?
Spanish Bombs replied to REVS's topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)
Every time I get too fat for my liking (or my wife's), I just install the latest "thin-guy" mod and drop that unsightly 30 lbs. Then, back to the beer, meat and cheese products. -

<BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by KwazyDog: Yup, you guys have got it right. The colour represents armour thickness in certain areas. The good part is that even a small change will result in a different colour, so you can click on different models of the T-34 and see minor armour differences as you progress through the series. Also, gun penetration will be coloured accordingly in the weapon charts (I *think*). This should really help newbies to WW2 armour see the difference between a BT-5 and a KV-I, as well as helping the vets see the differences between a PZ-IVG and a PZ-IVH. Dan<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> Is it just me, or is this not one of the coolest new things we have learned about CM2? This definitely adds a layer of fun to the game, I think. Good detective work by those who spotted it, and thanks to BTS for confirming quickly! -
Ok, didnt see this posted anywhere else, and am hoping that the answer (if there is one) is something more complicated than "turn on your computer, dumbass", but have had a somewhat strange issue come up in a PBEM match that is ongoing. For about the third or fourth time, when my opponent has emailed me back a turn, the turn comes across as something completely different from what it should be. The catch, however, is that when I go in and look at the actual text of the file he is sending, it appears to be, in plain English, his mission briefing (we are playing a WBW scenario), followed by the usual incomprehensible text. My opponent tells me he is playing his turn as per usual and then just using winzip and the right-click, "zip and email" function. I have played several games with him and have had no problems whatsoever reading earlier files. This is the first time I have run across this problem, and it is also the first time I have ever played a ready-made scenario (and, BTW, Wild Bill rules). Anyhow, if anybody has some input, I'd be much obliged. The problem is slowing the usual one turn a day pace into glacial progress.

Looking for a town/city scenario...
Spanish Bombs replied to Spanish Bombs's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
Wow - thanks for all the help guys, this is just emblematic of how the CM community makes this game so much fun. I am familiar with the Aachen scenario, but as I had played it against the AI from both sides, I thought it would be best to try something new for a PBEM match. Wild Bill - we are one turn into To the Last Man, and I am already hooked. The first movie was a blast, with more action than many of the first 10 turns in typical Quick Battle PBEM games.... I think the Ranger defense after taking the guns could be an great scenario, too.

Spanish Bombs replied to Spanish Bombs's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
Thanks for the suggestions, guys. I'll give the "To the Last Man" scenario a try and let you know how it goes, thanks Kingfish. As for the DFDR scenario, Clubfoot, unfortunately my opponent does not have your mod downloaded and I am slowly but surely still downloading it myself - excellent stuff, sir. for a PBEM game. Just looking for something a little different, not a QB. Did a search and came up blank on this forum. Ideally would be smaller to medium sized, allied attack probably, historical if available, evenly balanced and most importantly fun to play. If anyone has any suggestions or experiences, I'd be much obliged.
