  1. Never mind. I found out how to get a list the nerdy way: 1) cd g:\cmbb\scenarios 2) dir /b *.cme > scenarios.txt 3) edit scenarios.txt 4) replace all ".cme" with ""
  2. Is there a text based or Excel based list of all the scenarios that came on the CMBB special edition CD? I made a spreadsheet of scenarios for CMBO to sort by size, time, etc. I'd like to do the same thing for CMBB, but am not looking forward to typing in all those scenario names by hand! So, anyone know where I can find a list? The readme.txt that came w/ the CD is incomplete. Thanks! Travis
  3. Thanks!!! I am downloading them now. For others who are curious, the link is: http://www.dfdr.net/skorzeny/index.html Trav
  4. I found Bruneval and Combat at the scenario depot [thanks!] I still am curious about the command skorzensky scenarios... do you know where i can find them? Thanks! Trav p.s. I started playing Soldiers at War... The interface is absolutely infuriating but nevertheless I'm having a lot of fun with it (reminds me of xcom and jagged alliance). There've been some really tense Ambush-esque moments, which is always cool...
  5. Thanks! Where can I find those scenarios? I searched for "SKORZENSKY" at scenario depot [under scenario name and author name] but didn't get any matches Travis
  6. Have you guys found any really fun [small or tiny preferably] CM scenarios that have a really "personal" feel to them, akin to Ambush? I'm thinking maybe 4-8 units, understrengthed so that if they receive fire, they die pretty easily... The turn limit shouldn't be a factor; one side should wipe out the other side in order to win; no last minute objective-rushes... Terrain changes should be pretty dense, so that there's lots of opportunities for [ahem] ambushes. Anyway, I don't really know the "magic formula"... just a scenario that has a very few units [all pretty small] and is long enough for you to get attached to those units. Are there any scenarios like this now? For me, the scenario that has reminded me the most of Ambush is "Drop to Destiny", although that has WAYYYYY too many units to develop any sort of attachment [for me at least]. Others??? Trav p.s. I have "Soldiers at War" (got it in one of those ww2 bundles) but haven't played it yet. Do you think it's worth checking out [as an Ambush fan]?
  7. Funny you mention it... I actually made a scenario based on ambush map A. The scale's a bit off, though. I haven't populated it with Germans yet though. If you want me to send you just the terrain map, email me: txe@swa.com I'm *still* waiting for a computer version of Ambush... wouldn't that be awesome??? Trav
  8. I have a quick question that I hope isn't a FAQ (I haven't dug around for answers on it yet, sorry!)... and that is... drumroll... Is Combat Mission 2 going to keep track of our progress (completion, scores) through the scenarios? Right now, whenever I finish a scenario, I feel a HUGE sense of relief (if I lose) and/or victory (if I win), but all emotions are brought to a halt when I see that score screen and realize that none of my scores are being saved on my computer... I have to keep track of my progress by hand (in an Excel spreadsheet), which isn't exactly difficult, but it kind of spoils the fun. I *really* hope future versions of CM will save our [single-player] scores for us, so that we can at least keep tabs on which scenarios we've "conquered" so far, playing which sides. There are two other things I would LOVE to see in CM and have missed quite a bit: 1) ability to replay the video from ANY previous turn, not just the current turn. [i can't tell you HOW many times I wanted to rewatch a video but accidentally hit DONE instead of rewind... man, that frustrates me!!!] This has nothing to do with scenarios, but the next one does... 2) ability to sort scenarios [in the game!] by: - name - size - turns - date - my best score as allies - my best score as axis - download site - ratings - user-editable field(s) Of course, scores would need to be normalized. Scenario ratings would need to be downloaded from web sites [either automatically or by hand and saved to a fixed text file]. We (the users) should be able to add comments to scenarios via the game, and then sort on our comments. This gives us the power to come up with our own sorting scheme. To be able to do all this sorting in-game would be awesome. So far, I don't know of any games that give the user that amount of control. Wouldn't it be great if CM were the first? Anyway, those are my ideas/wishes for the next CM... Are any of these plug-in-able? Travis
  9. Thanks for the tips, guys!!! I will check out all those scenarios you mentioned, including Valley of Trouble. I'll also check out the various scenarios mentioned in the recent "Small Scenarios" post, and will try to figure out how to search for stuff on the Scenario Depot site... Thanks again! Travis
  10. Thanks for the info! I created another test, this time with each side having a sniper, an MG, a flamethrower, and a rifle platoon. I faced each off against the other (four "duals" going on at once). This time, they all fought very aggressively, even the sharpshooters (I think - it was pretty chaotic). My guess is that this time, the presence of platoon HQ and the sounds of gunfire are what got the sharpshooters interested in fighting. One of the most confusing/frustrating things about learning the game is figuring out how to get my guys to shoot at the enemy. I usually set a (T)arget for each of my units that can see at least one enemy, but even when I target an enemy, sometimes they don't seem to WANT to fire. Bazookas in particular seem reluctant to shoot *at times*. I'm trying to figure out the *at times* part, to learn the various factors that contribute to the progression of: 1) standing still long enough to shoot (not panicking) 2) shooting at the target 3) hitting the target 4) killing the target My instinct was to create some simple, terrain-less maps and perform my own "monte carlo"-eqsue tests (run a scenario a bunch of times so I can examine both trends and the amount of variance in the results). I like to know the numbers and rules used in a strategy game, so learning something "fuzzy" like CM is strange... Maybe I've been spoiled by years and years of Heroes of Might and Magic [where the rules are simple and you know all the numbers]! Anyway... Sorry to ramble! Trav
  11. I created a "Test" scenario (for learning the game mechanics), with a tiny empty map and 1 sharpshooter on each side. When I play it, I can never get my sharpshooter to fire at the other one (and vice versa), even when they are nose-to-nose! I added a flamethrower unit to each side and on most turns, no one attacks, even if the enemy is ~5 feet away. Sometimes they do shoot, however; once I heard gunfire and even though I didn't see any bullets, I think my flamethrower unit "fired" (with small arms?) at the Germans, because the German sharpshooter fell down "Eliminated". Hmmm..... Also, when I start each turn, my targeting lines are often gone, which means (I guess) that my units keep "forgetting" that the Germans are right in front of them. I didn't notice any weirdness like this in the core scenarios, just in the ones I created. Of course, the real scenarios are a lot busier than mine, so maybe there's pacifism there as well but we just don't notice it??? So, any idea what's going on? Do sharpshooters have to be a certain minimum distance away? Do I need to pump up the fanaticism meter for the Germans? Do I need to include platoon and/or company HQ units in order to get my guys brave enough to fight? Thanks! Trav
  12. Hello, I am curious which scenarios are good for learning how to play CM. I played the tutorial a few times until I could consistently win it, but I am curious about the other core scenarios, as well as user-designed scenarios... Should we just start with the smallest, shortest scenarios and work our way up? I'd love to see a whole set of scenarios (or operations) specifically designed for "easing" players into the game. If no one else has done it, maybe I will try to come up with some good "Hello World" type scenarios, starting with some 1-on-1 battles to minimize micromanagement... Anyway, if there are already good "boot camp" scenarios out there, I'd love to hear about them! Trav
