  1. double post [This message has been edited by Agua (edited 03-31-2001).]
  2. Very true. My parents were both in their late thirties when I was born (64). I remember as a child, being enamored with "combat", "twelve o'clock high", and all the network WWII shows which were popular back in those days. Naturally I took to drawing war scenes as children do. I drew a flag with a swastika on it and my mother nearly beat me to death (exageration). That generation lost family in the war. When my stepson wanted to put up a nazi flag in his bedroom (he also became enamored with combat and later, wargaming), I had to remember that there were still people alive who would be highly offended and reminded of great pain by the symbol, even though he, like I did as a child, just thought it looked cool. Well, out of respect for those folks, the flag never went up.
  3. Thanks Pud!!! Got muddy and old grey. How long before you finish the paved one?
  4. PERFECT!!!!!!!!!! PLEASE PUT IT UP SOON!!!!!! Thank you ever so much Pud. Ever get over to the Mississippi Gulf Coast, I'll buy a good buzz for ya!! Thanks
  5. NO!!! Send that one over to me before you try the grey!!! PLEASE!!!!!
  6. Crap Pud, You are the King of the road business. Can I get that at your site? I'll insert that one as optional mod for all scenarios with damp ground or any rain. I like that one better than the lighter brown one, but again, that's just a personal taste thing. Still like a grey/dark grey one for dry conditions. Thanks for the heads up and the great mod.
  7. Not a lot to add here other than my father fought in CBI in late '44 through the end and his repeated comment was that it was said the Gurhka would slip behind a soldier and tap him on the helment before his throat was slit, just to let him know the end had arrived. Excellent thread.
  8. WOOHOO!!!!!!! Can't WAIT (though I suppose I don't have a lot of choice about that do I? LOL)
  9. That IS the biggest aspect of the old board games which is lacking in CM, and any computer wargame for that matter. CM does a superb job of presenting us with, without question, the BEST, most realisitc, computer wargame available. Individuals such as Chris Hare, and as of recently Juju, are publishing tables to help fill in those gaps. Movement spotting, visibility, command tables, etc., would be super helpful in allowing players to develop the feel for how the game works. This sort of information really should be published in the player's guide or on the internet for download. I realize some info can be accessed from the disk, but its not the same as a table that lays it all out in a comparision. Simply because of the ease of playing without consulting various tables, it would be difficult to ever develop the feel for the mechanics of it, but over time, the feel would be developed. I'd never even consider dropping CM to pick up board games because of the tedium of consulting all the various data tables, but yeah, it is that very same study which makes the board games now seem overly burdensome that imparts to the players the understanding of the game which can't be gained without those detailed tables.
  10. LOL!!! Yeah, that's why we married guys should be thankful we have our wives; they free up so much time and energy that used to be spent chasing skirts in bars that we can devote a huge percentage of our non-work waking hours to playing CMBO!!!
  11. Pud, Is there any chance you could try a grey/dark grey variant of your dirt road mod? I think the detail of the brown one is truly outstanding and wish only that it was availabale in grey/dark grey (only a personal preference).
  12. Do it Chief!!! I got one put in my new computer and it is just incredible. The WIFE even enjoys coming in and watching a turn play out every now and then.
  13. Please send it to me Franko. I love your operations!! TiA
  14. It's down and has been down for several weeks Chris. That's a shame because it was a great source of outstanding scenarios. I don't know when or if it is coming back up online.
  15. Yes, the grass is all dark and the suggestion of unmown fields is present all the way down to level 2!!! VERY VERY NICE This game just keeps getting better and better!!! Thanks gunnergoz [This message has been edited by Agua (edited 03-28-2001).]
  16. Same here Apache. Almost sounds like it's in a concrete pipe or something. But it's not that way all the time. Odd, isn't it?
  17. Nevermind previous post ... apparently something screwey with my utility. The patch is completed but outwardly indicates less than a full download.
  18. Is the 1.0 to 1.1 patch working okay? My download utility tells me that it has downloaded 7.1 mb (the DFDR page says 6.7). The file, after download, indicates that it is 6.7 mb, but that the download is not complete. Just wondering if everything is cool on the DFDR site or if I need to go ahead and download the whole conversion over again?
  19. WOOHOO!!! Heading over to The Last Defense now!! Thanks for making my game even MORE gorgeous!!! Les
  20. Gunner, Would you consider making a variant that cuts down on the brightness of 1 & 3? I love the richness and suggestion of texture providing by these terrains, and would use the mod in a second. Good Luck All!!!
  21. GREAT PICS!!! I've found wallpaper for my new puter!!
  22. Mike! Send 'em on! I'm about to get started on some playtests for Talonsoft but, I'll MAKE time for these!!
