1.
quote:
Originally posted by Clubfoot: <snip> Does anyone actually dislike this tool simply because it's too simple.

I rigged the thing up for DFDR and it worked so well that I decided to use it for CMBO. I'm sure it is just me, but I had a nightmare with it in CMBO. It worked fine for several days until I attempted to install dd's infantry mod. When I did, something happened that wiped out every mod I had so I had to go back and reinstall, trying to figure out "let's see..was it Rich's hedge and DD's add-on water & wheat or was it Tiger's rough & brush, DD's Water & Rich'e wall." It was likely something that I did wrong, but I have no idea what it was and I'm not going to risk going through that again. I still use it with DFDR though(separate game installation for DFDR).
2. Can anything be done about the fact that the message board adds approximately 13-14 minutes to the displayed time that a message is posted? Obviously, no big deal, but it is odd.
3. My hand pbem butt-kicking agrees: Marsh can't be entered by vehicles.
4.
quote:
Originally posted by Wolfcub: well im gettin thrashed by ppl and i need help

Hey Wolfcub, I'm getting thrashed as well, but that's just part of the learning curve. I got the game back around the end of February, played about 2 weeks vs. a/i and started pbem. Now I'm pretty soundly kicking the a/i, and getting my but kicked in pbem. I'm playing some guys who have been playing this game quite a while though (two of them are #1 on their respective ladders, two others have been playing probably since the game first came out). Just look at it as the price of tuition and watch what the experienced players do and try to learn from it. I've found that these guys are REALLY helpful and will answer any question you ask them about how you should do things, why they do what they do, etc. Good luck!!
5. Yeah, it was called either "Battlegrounds" or "Battlefields", I think it was the latter. Absolutely excellent series of documentaries and true tactical analysis. I know the series consisted of at least 6 two-hour episodes, maybe more. DVD? dunno. I don't know if its even available on tape. My brother in law taped about three of the episodes, and we watched Barbarossa a couple of months ago. [This message has been edited by Agua (edited 04-05-2001).]
6. SPOILER [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ Yeah, that spotter was truly the whole game. In retrospect I can see there is no chance in hell of taking that town and then holding it against those stugs and supression fire from all those HT without wiping out the opposing infantry with the naval guns, thus saving as much of the US force as possible for bigger and meaner things. 7. Excellent!! Axis surrendered on turn 24 - Score 82 to 18 - Major Allied. SPOILER [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ Truly wasn't expecting armour but I began to wonder when I looked at all the zooks we were given. That 14 inch naval gun put the HURTING on that former town....LOL!!! Zook took out one Stug, debris from former town immobilized another turned completely away from the boys. Just for good measure, sent a AB squad to close assault it and take it out just for meanness LOL!!! Anyway, thanks for the recommendation. And, what do you think of Assenois? Over [This message has been edited by Agua (edited 04-03-2001).] [This message has been edited by Agua (edited 04-04-2001).]
8. Got 'em Jmac. Thanks a ton. I've gotten side tracked today helping Admiral Keth round up about as many scenarios as have ever been published (presently 728 on my HD..LOL!!) but I've started on Screaming Eagles and just got in reinforcements. From the briefing sheet it sounds like the Jerry's are going to come storming back on me. I'm taking it one objective at a time and thinking about sending the reinforcements to set up support for the third objective, hoping by the time they get there, maybe I'll be finished witht he first two. Over
9. Got it Admiral!! Terence, Thanks loads!! Later, Les
10. Terence, Could you cc me with those scenarios as well? Admiral, If you could send a list of what you have, I'll go over the scenarios I have at home and compare. I'll send you anything I have which is not on your list. Good luck ALL!!!
11. Second that re: Halfaya Pass. MikeT, need more reports or you have your plate full right now?
12. Sure Admiral. Now that I'm thinking about it, I think I have at least *some* of the PT series as well, maybe all. I'll send them to ya when I get off work which will be in approximately 6.5 more hours.
13. Hey Admiral, I've got the ASL and PP series, but not sure about the PT though. I've got 445 cmb's myself(not counting ops or CD). I'll send the ASL and PP series when I get off work, and if I have them the PT as well. You could have had them anyway without a trade, but why don't you just let me download the mega pak anyway?
14. Matt, could you send the Riverboat.cmb to me as well? I too enjoyed the stealth. You're right; I was amazed at how close those sharpshooters could get to enemy units. It's a shame you can't eliminate the ammo of sharp shooters is preset scenarios or QB. Thanks in advance, Agua
15. With what you have available to you in Valley of Trouble, the terrain and unit locations, Tanks are about it. You could try to smoke the pill boxes with some of the arty and advance some infantry up to close assault one of them. If you attempt this method, you'll do well to approach the pillbox from the rear and attack it from the rear door.
16. The Priest!! Looks beautiful, and a long time coming. NOW, how about a high res Greyhound? This unit has been neglected far too long as well. The one out of the box looks cartoonish and it is such a popular unit. Thanks Gordon.
17. Hell, I'll say it's a "shame". I ain't got it!!! Could you send it to me jmac? agua@bellsouth.net
18. Here's one (or several) for you too; Try ANY of the battles/operations over on the Belgium CM site: http://users.pandora.be/aneric/index8.htm I HIGHLY recommend Assenois, play as US. A thrilling charge through town and wooded roadway to relieve Bastogne, loaded with ATG's Fallshirmjager, MG42's. [following original post - I looked on the CM databse and Screaming Eagles was posted on the now defunct CMHQ Scenario Depot. I don't know whether it's included in that 200 scenario pack or not. Shame] [This message has been edited by Agua (edited 04-02-2001).]
19. Thanks jmac!!! I'll fire it up now Chief. Les
20. Well, target size may be some portion of the problem, but I just put three skdfz in a 40m x 20m space surrounded by woods and placed a Sherman Jumbo 76(w) in with them. I removed all HE from the Jumbo. In three trials, only 2 of 9 skdfz were taken out with AP. One took 6 rounds of AP before it died, another taking 9 rounds. Jumbo MG did take out 4 of them. In two of the three trials, the Jumbo's gun was damaged and in two of the trials, the Jumbo was immobilized. At this close range, there's something more than just "hard to hit" going on here. [following posting: Make that in all three trials the Jumbo's gun was damaged.] [This message has been edited by Agua (edited 04-02-2001).]
21. You have. .50 MG kills these things quick. I set up a test scenario with one .50 MG in the edge of the woods and one sdkfz at 150m in the open. In 4 trials, the sdkfz never lasted longer than 3 seconds.
22. The default location after installation of CM, is in C:\program files\CMBO\scenarios Just look in the directory under the above path for a folder that has the name on it, literally, "scenarios".
23. The big scenario pack is a zipped file which consists of 200 scenario files which are THEMSELVES zipped, individually. After DL the scenario pack, unzip the pack into a temporary folder. Then unzip each of the 200 scenarios into your "scenario" folder in CMBO. Some programs allow you to select all the individual scenarios and will unzip them in one operation. Others, you'll just have to take the time to unzip each one individually. Good Luck All!!! Les
24. Just ran into one of these things in a TCP/IP. It sure is bad news. Two shermans wasted who knows how many rounds on this thing. It apparently was feeling full of itself as it started to bum rush one of the shermans (it was at the end of the turn and my opponent was not directing this), at about 38 meters. The Sherman had been firing at this thing for most of a turn at this range and kept missing (I swear one of the shells looked like it just went through the thing). Ultimately, during the flak monster's charge, the Sherman took it out, resulting in an explosion. The crew survived, unharmed. As an aside, a sharpshooter had been catching hell from the flak monster and it he joined in with the Sherman; you could hear the "clink" of the shells landing on the ground. He must have felt like Captain Miller when that thing finally blew up.
25. Nope, sorry. I had exact same situation with long time old friend. He tried installing the 1.12 patch (figured nothing to lose), just wouldn't work.
