  1. WOOT! Total victory for the good guys! 118 US survivors, 5 KIA, 16 WIA, zero tank losses. Germans had 21 remaining, 47 KIA, 28 WIA and 7 MIA. I basically moved half the tanks on the left, firing out the opening in the hedgerow...one of them sighted the AT gun right away and kept blasting at it until it was destroyed. The other 3 tanks rode down the main road very slowly, hunting for targets. By going very, very slow, I managed to keep them out of schreck range. I split up the infantry left and right, took the farmhouse and the first rows of bocage on the right, then closed in for the kill on the crossroads. Oh yeah, the mortars and MG's...that was neat. I kept them together, moved forward to the first big field in the center, deployed mortars with the wpns platoon leader as spotter and used them to kill off the German infantry that was conveniently lined up along the stone wall near the crossroads. Piles of bodies everywhere. That linear bombardment really works! Used up all their ammo, but there was really no more infantry after that. MG's were given arcs of fire and they did a great job suppressing the German MG's and infantry, fixing them until the mortars could finish them off. I'm really jazzed but at the same time I realize this was "easy" setting and a tutorial. But I love the game, the graphics make you feel like you are there and it is so very cool! Thanks BFC!
  2. Sorry to hear that. Hope you can beat it into submission...
  3. I got a good working copy from the German mirror but the US was corrupted (small file size gave it away.)
  4. Are you downloading from the German site? It has the US English version and worked fine for me, whereas the US mirror had only a partial file and gave me the same message as you got.
  5. Very, very nice. I'm pleased as punch. The game runs without a hitch on my 20" HP laptop. I was a bit worried but now I can see that I can run the new CM just fine. Got a ways into the tutorial and got distracted so I'll just start over in the morning. It's going to take a bit to get back in the saddle, but boy what fun! Thanks to all the BFC crew and kudos to all of you.
  6. I'm downloading from the German link at 125 kb/sec....sloooow but its working so far. US file was in fact corrupted.
  7. This does seem to be the fireplug all the dogs are pissing on, doesn't it?
  8. The Demo will be released one half minute before the BFC servers go down...
  9. I did not expect a demo either, but I had to check, just in case
  10. And you were feeling up to it today? I have to admit I did refresh the BFC home page...
  11. Now you've gotten me curious to try this out some time with a relatively small force and tiny map, just to see what its like.
  12. And yet, here you are with the rest of us buffoons...
  13. OK, let the good times roll again! Thanks Steve et al, we appreciate all the hard work.
  14. I had a profound sense of deja vu looking at that demo...early CM:BB all over again, at least graphics wise. I took it off my HD after a couple of hours since I already have the real thing.
  15. Probably right up there with the Goliath robot tanks and the anti-tank dogs.
  16. Mind, I've never fired a tommygun but when I was a (get this) cub scout (as in 55 years ago) I got to see a Massachusetts state trooper fire one at about 5 yards at a steel box. This is like, seared into my boyish memory, as it should be. As I recall, every round of his 3-5 round bursts went into that dang box. Good thing, too, or else he'd have had to pay to fix the Fort Devens post movie theater where he showed this off for our cub pack. He also fired some pistols including a .357 magnum (this was before the .41 and .44 mags came out). Now the .357 really got our attention. That was loud! Years later, when I fired my own .357's on ranges, I could not help but smile at the memory of that sharp bark in that little post theater.
  17. Dang. I was hoping to try out the kubelwagen, amphibious jeep, DUKW and amtracs that are surely in the game... (deep sigh of wishful thinking)
  18. Try signing for 9 P-3 aircraft, $3M OPTAR and untold $$ spare parts...gray hair, anyone?
  19. Why do you think navy captains go down with their ships?
  20. I wonder if there is a game engine issue with dismounted guns being abandoned by their crews and not being able to re-crew in game? I'm no programmer (obviously!) but I have a hunch it might be. Alternately, as YD has suggested, it may be imposed as a restriction just to prevent gamey behavior.
  21. Don't know for a fact, but it seems logical to be able to use them both in indirect and direct fire modes, the way they were in real life. Interestingly, it seems that CM:N simply regards the halftrack as transportation for the mortar and team to their firing site. Why do I say this? From reading the online manual. Apparently, no mortars fire from the M-21 in the game, so there will have to be a dismount/remount and setup time built in to their use. Sounds like you move them where you want them, set them up and fire. Possibly, you may have to set them up at the start of a scenario, don't know for sure yet. I'd be delighted if a beta tester or someone from BFC could square me away on that.
  22. Funny, I don't recall ever seeing any M3's with dual rear doors...must have been a Brit modification to let them get the Bren Tripod out the back...
  23. So - where do the Klingons come into the picture? Nevermind, I really don't want to know, I'm sorry I even asked...
