  1. "Accurate and unbiased?" Probably not. But a necessary bit of information to put out when dealing with GI rumors of the supposedly unbeatable German weapons that they were facing (or were soon to face.) In fact the US weapons did have their strong points and properly used, could effectively do their job on the battlefield. Everything has to be taken in context, which is easily overlooked or played down with the passage of time.
  2. No denying, however, that weapons like the MP40, MG34/42, 88, Tiger and Nebelwerfer had a very significant psychological and morale impact on contemporary GI's that had to face them. We may know all about them now, including their weaknesses and drawbacks, but in WW2 those facts were known only to the Germans, if at all. Games have a hard time replicating the sense of worry, doom, even panic - that the sound or mention of some of those weapons had on ordinary WW2 GI's in the field. It took a lot of experience and training to overcome the fears and worry that those "latrine rumors" inflicted on the troops, and which retelling often began the first day that new GI draftees showed up for basic training.
  3. Bigduke6 once again proves IMO why he is one of the more balanced and credible posters on the forum.
  4. So now we have the perfect gun for those vacations in Jurassic Park, eh? What caliber is that thing anyway? Looks like about 30mm or so from the video. A true shoulder cannon.
  5. I can think of no worse end than to be a subscriber to this forum with a browser that points to no other URL...
  6. Whatever happened to "What happens in Las Vegas, stays in Las Vegas?"
  7. Wow, not a whiff of this on any of the web sites I've looked at today, except here. I've read several of his books. He will be missed. And the article is right, American news media sucks. I could care less what Kim Karda-whatshername is wearing or not wearing today, but I have to deal with 35 articles about her in every major news site I check for significant news. It truly sucks.
  8. Not clear from what I've read that any Italian divisional artillery battalions were ever engaged in direct fire in Sicily. Most of those level units either were used in their intended indirect fire roles or were abandoned when the front lines were breached. Not much in the way of training for that contingency that I know of. Regimental guns were a different matter.
  9. "spagetti eaters" ? You just made my ignore list.
  10. Network TV is uniformly disappointing drek these days. Even cable has gone to the dogs, what with the "Hysteria Channel" focusing on the Mayan Apocalypse, Ice Road Truckers and Ancient UFO's. The "reality" shows are the most unreal of the bunch. I am close to canceling my cable service but it is bundled with my internet and phone so it is not a simple thing to do.
  11. It's been discussed here before but the only incident of M-7 direct fire in the emergency role that I read about in the ETO happened during the breakout from the Normandy beaches. It was very effective and deadly being as the encounters were in limited light and close in. I'm sure a search would turn up the thread(s) in the CM:BN forum.
  12. What we need around here is a reference thread, eh? Us old timers know all these sources but the new guys may not and sometimes it is good to be reminded of the treasures out there as well.
  13. @John Kettler: It's nice to point out these resources to the newer WW2 buffs here but most of us old grogs either have a copy of this already, or a reprint, or know where to look it up. For me it's been a well-thumbed reference for many years. Great source for anyone who wants to go back and see what these US vehicles were notionally equipped with, for sure. @jakla1027: IIRC, By 1944 the Thompson was designated Substitute Standard and the M-3 Grease Gun was generally used where Thompsons were previously issued.
  14. Sure don't see it a Ubisoft....but did a google on SH5 sale and found it so thank you for the heads'up.
  15. "Condom dispenser?" Oh, that explains the anal probes that "alien abductees" are always blathering about...
  16. Not to question your vision or credibility, but any chance it could have been one of these: Airbus A400M?
  17. Always showing off your flash ride, Michael, you hot roddder you. No doubt it has whitewalls and an 8-track player as well.
  18. "To err is human...to really screw things up takes lawyers."
  19. Now its coming out that a fair chunk of Bain's startup cash came from the Latin American oligarchs who sponsored the infamous El Salvadoran "death squads." This just keeps getting better. And re: possible Middle East wars, all I have to do is remind myself that Romney's religion tends to incline him towards a dogmatic, religion-versed view of the region and its issues, rather than looking at it through purely dispassionate historical and practical terms. Consequently, he's coming to it with a set of biases that do not preclude the possibility of Armageddon and the Second Coming as attractive options for humanity. Just what we need.
  20. I frankly find it amazing that the vehicle interiors are so well detailed. And on one level I can sympathize with the groggy comments about weapon details. On another level, I am amused that it would matter so much as to arouse the comments to begin with. No accounting for tastes - or priorities. I'm more upset about the Italian voices used in the module, which do not sound like native speakers of Italian at all to me...and I am one myself. But I can live with these minor "flaws" as long as the game plays well...which so far, it does.
  21. Shhhhh!!! Chill, dude! They might have to recall the game now!
