Brings new meaning to the phrase, "Your ass is grass." This GM stuff scares me - not because GM is inherently dangerous, but because I think corporations will rush to get product out with profit in mind first and safety a distant second (or more likely, last.)

The R-35 tank -pictures and wikipedia data
gunnergoz replied to snake_eye's topic in Combat Mission Fortress Italy
According to the Italian site, the R-35's that were turned over to them were painted overall green. It is possible that some local camo was applied, or also that the green faded irregularly, perhaps exposing some of the original French camo beneath it. -

gunnergoz replied to snake_eye's topic in Combat Mission Fortress Italy
Found some photos of Italian R-35's here http://www.comandosupremo.com/forums/topic/6574-french-tanks-in-italian-use/ The photos are at the bottom of the page and the lower pair show an R-35 captured in Gela, Sicily. -

Keep it hull down and NP. Apart from that, be sure to wear your asbestos undies. -

Nice graphics but RTS suck for me. -
I'm not so sure that BOB was "made from an Ambrose book" as much as it's inception was inspired by it and there is no doubt that the book was influential. However, once they got going towards actual production, I think other source material, including considerable input from actual 506th veterans, was used as well...probably for the better.

I'll take "real" Italian food over the American version of it, any day. There is no comparing the cheeses, the hams and sausages, the veal, the pasta ...sorry, I just shorted out my keyboard with drool.

Things to watch: Mil Hist Channel & Mil Chan
gunnergoz replied to John Kettler's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
These channels started out as some "grognard" fare with period documentaries and real archival footage but unfortunately have been watered down over time to this repetitive commemorative pap and other shows mostly consisting of video clips of drone strikes on Muslim militants, viewed from 5000 feet up and accompanied by the obligatory heavy metal earbusting scores. Not my cuppa, sorry. -
I'm jealous...I miss Rome and its food a lot. Was last there about 22 years ago...now that Berlusconi is gone, its time to think about another trip. Before someone who shall not be mentioned eats all the good food by himself.

Bigger generation of gamers coming .....

Interesting that successive generations are scrutinized by the preceding ones, which invariably conclude from their observations that the species is doomed. The successive generations invariably look back at their progenitors and wonder how the species ever survived them. -

I used to work in the courts and any day that my reports pissed off the judge, the DA and the defense attorney, I figured I must have gotten REAL close to the truth of what happened in a given case. Same is true here. The game is so good it pisses off everybody. Much like real war. -

One more reason I avoid Facebook. -
I hope they do it justice. There was a fascinating documentary on cable a few weeks ago where an Alaska-based C-54 was used to replicate bombing runs on a miniature dam reconstruction. In one scary moment, they had video of the water spray plume of the dropped bomb nearly taking the tail off the C-54 - which may have happened to some of the real Lancs during the actual raid IIRC - or was a risk they worried about at the time, at least. The documentary goes into great detail about how they re-created the bombs and bomb spinning mechanism that was used historically. A great way to spend an hour if you can catch the show.

The site's been mentioned here before but it bears periodic refreshing for those of us who are new or forgetful. I belong to the latter category. Now, what was I talking about...?
