  1. A couple points here. I've been playing through the demo tutorial (FINALLY beat it with the germans ) and I've encountered some serious problems with squads who are covering an arc. Specifically, in one instance a Russkie squand flanked me (damn AI) and came up beside my squad and started firing at them from almost a point blank range. My squad proceeded to do nothing except cover their arc with an even greater fury! Now I know that i've ordered them to watch this area but shouldn't a sense of self-preservation kick in somewhere? Shouldn't they, upon being fired upon from an unknown source, turn and face their attackers? One question I was wondering is whether covering arcs replace the "ambush" order? Because I could not seem to place an ambush with any of my CO's so I was forced instead to use an extremely short covering arc in place of an ambush command.
  2. Very rarely is a PC game ever at 80 dollars. The only one I can think of is Warcraft 3 whcich for some reason refuses to drop Most games will retail for about 69.99 I just recently bought Medieval:Total War ( an absolutely brilliant game!) for 54.99 It seems to me that many people on this board devote almost all of their spare time towards this game. Which means that their expenditure is justifiable; their ratio of hours of enjoyment/dollar is extremely high. I on the other hand enjoy playing many different genres of games which means that I can't contribute a significant amount of time to just one. Therefore I just cant justify paying so much money for a game. Not that BTS doesnt deserve it of course. Of the many games that I own, very few have I actually purchased but I bought CMBO because it really was a groundbreaking game and the developers were not some large company who didnt care about the customer. Anyways I'm starting to ramble If I could walk into my local EB, or Compucentre or even Walmart and pick it up for 59.99 or even 69.99 then I probably would. However for now I'll just wait.
  3. Yeah! By the time I got it my "45$" game was costing me a little over 80 dollars. Which is why I either won't be buying the game, or I'll be waiting a long time until the price drops, or until there is a Canadian distributor.
  4. I just cant seem to knock out those tanks My AT gun gets in about 5 or 6 hits on the lead tank and there is sometime turret penetration but they just keep going and going and... I like the tutorial the best actually
  5. woohoo I'm under #5000!!! Phear my status!!!!!
  6. You people are horrible I voted for GIC I think
  7. Ok I'm sure this is a really newbie question but I'm gonna ask anyways. I'm playing PBEM and I got an arty spotter set up and I assigned him to area fire. The timer at the bottom says 3 minutes but it's been 2 or 3 turns and it still says 3 minutes! why isnt it started to count down yet?
  8. I must say that I found the Combat Mission manual to be an excellent product in its own right. No complaints here whatsoever. Considering the fact that most games have manuals little better than what you get in your standard Playstation jewel case I'd have to say that Combat Mission is at the top of it's class. Maybe they'd be interested in coming out with a PDF manual for those who want more indepth coverage and are willing to print off 200+ pages?
  9. LOL Hey cool beans you should do an AAR and tell us how the battle went
  10. you cant blow up barb wire? I dunno-that kinda makes sense to me.
  11. bump I'm just curious why you didnt use the square bracquets in the first place Ö
  12. Oops I see that the general forum FAQ does refer to scenario questions. Still, I believe that the topic deserves its own, more detailed FAQ
  13. I looked through the search engine for this Forum and I wasnt able to find any FAQ threads specifically for scenarios and operations. I know the General forum has a FAQ relating to the general issues of CM and I found it to be extremely helpful. Would anyone here be willing to take on the responsibility of creating a FAQ that deals specifically with the tips and tricks of creating scenarios and answers the questions that are often asked in this forum? I think the end result would be an increase in the quantity, and more importantly, quality of the scenarios that are released to the general public. I'm close to graduating this year and I plan on dedicating a good part of my free time this summer to doing some research and trying my hand at creating a scenario that all can enjoy. I would greatly appreciate being able to use a FAQ to lessen the trial and error of the process.
  14. ok I got that figured out. A couple more questions. I've seen tons of weapons, Tiger, and infantry mods yet I dont have any of that for CMMOS. Do I have to get that stuff the old fashioned way or am I missing some files?
  15. ok I'm downloading everyting into my BMP folder I better be guessing right!
  16. Hi guys, sorry to disturb but the Tech forum is a little quiet right now. Plz visit my thread and help me through my CMMOS troubles http://www.battlefront.com/cgi-bin/bbs/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=8;t=002367 I downloaded all the mods from the list at CMHQ but now I have no idea what to do with them I know I have to extract the rules lists to the CMMOS folder but I dont know where to extract the bmps. There are like 10 different versions of the same vehicle so I cant believe that I can extract them all to my bmp folder :\
  17. Ok 4 hours and 500 megs later I downloaded all the CMMOS on that page. And all I have to say is....holy christ what a pain in the ass!!! especially when DAP doesnt want to work. Wouldnt it be easier to zip all those files up into one big file for people with broadband?? Anyways I'm curious what to do now. I noticed that there are like 15 different versions of the SDKFZ 250 or whatever. surely I cant copy all those BMP's into my BMP file because they'll just copy over each other...am I right?
  18. Ok I just installed the thing. I'm downloading all the mods. I have a few questions about it. 1)I'm pretty sure that I unzip all the BMP's to the BMP folder just like with regular mods. What about the Infotext? Does it have to go anywhere or can I just forget about it? 2) I seem to be having problems using my download accelerator on the CMHQ site-does anyone else have this problem?
  19. Ok so I've installed the program and I'm downloading the files...but where do I install them to? My BMP folder or somewhere in the CMMOS folder? The readme wasnt very clear on this point.
  20. I have another resolution question Am I not able to play in a different resolution than my desktop? My desktop is the 1168*840 (I dont know the numbers exactly) but I want to play the game in 1072*768 so it doesnt bog down too much. But for some reason it doesnt let me do this.
  21. CMMOS? Translation please I followed Matt's Mod guide to the letter but I see that it doesnt seem to have been updated in about a year and a half so maybe i shouldnt trust it too much
  22. Just hold Shift when you click on the discussion forums link. I really dislike the way it's cut off too
