1. Like the camo, but those roadwheels are a bit bright don't you think? Other than that, it looks great.
2.
quote:
Originally posted by lcm1947: Oh, forgot to ask, where in Texas do you live, if I may ask. I live in Austin. Didn't know anyone else that visits this forum was from good old Texas.

I think there are quite a few people from Texas here. I live in SA now...Was up in Ft. Hood for a couple of years until I got out of the Army.
3. I believe he means telling the commander to rotate the turret to this point while continuing to have the hull facing the present direction. It would be a nice feature, since you would then be able to accurately have tanks travelling in column and such. (First tank covers front, second right, third left, fourth rear) I don't know, not a huge deal I guess, but I don't think it would be that hard to add in. (Correct me if I'm wrong here) ------------------ this is a total disaster.... get the mice. -Terence

5. But the main point with this would be that you could play a campaign against the AI, without another human to handle details which (correct me if I'm mistaken) the CMMC can't or isn't doing at the moment. I'd love to see something like this. I've been joining campaign games and such left and right lately just so I can get the chance to have a sense of continuity in the game. I wish we could get a built-in CM feature like this, but it's not gonna happen, so our only hope is for someone to do it 3rd party. ------------------ Do not taunt Happy Fun Ball.
6. Wow, a waist pad? That's one hell of a mouse my man. ------------------ Do not taunt Happy Fun Ball.
7. Good lord, you should see the trackball the military has on the MCS computer system I was on. Talk about a complete pain in the rear. It was built into the keyboard and the ball was positioned so badly in respect to the buttons that you pretty much had to use two hands, or accept having your entire arm from the elbow down cramping up after 2 minutes. I use a Logitech 3-button trackball now with the thumb moved ball and love it...until the cat decides to curl up around it anyway. ------------------ Do not taunt Happy Fun Ball.
8. I just installed a new 32 MB ATI Raedon video card with the latest drivers, CM ran fine the first 2 or 3 times I ran it, but now when I start it, it just automatically minimizes and I have to CTRL-ALT-DEL to close the program. This has never happened before I put the card in. I'm kind of cunfused because it ran fine the first few times I ran it...any ideas? PS - and yes, the CD is in the drive. ------------------ Do not taunt Happy Fun Ball. [This message has been edited by Wolfpack (edited 03-25-2001).]

10. Best result out of a flamethrower team I've ever seen came in one of the campaign games I was in. Advancing a full company through a large section of woods, I had been driving some Germans in front of me until my forces ran into this guy. He faced down my entire company routing two full platoons and setting at least 4 woods tiles on fire before my lead platoon was finally able to take him out. Then I was counterattacked by the German infantry and had to hold out with the one platoon that wasn't broken. Needless to say I was a bit irked by the valient flamethrower. ------------------ Do not taunt Happy Fun Ball.
11. You would also get a general idea by how well the unit is fighting back, of course, this would not be an exact reckoning. I think perhaps when you ID the unit you should get a status that has a bit of variability, +1 -1 or so. ------------------ Do not taunt Happy Fun Ball.
12. I would say that it's because if the HQ is alive, then they'll be looking for it to get further instructions, where if they knew it was dead, then they'd know they were going to have to make their own decisions, thus command lag would be reduced because they're recieving all instructions from the squad leader who is on the spot. Of course, they're more liable to break and die, so not a great tactic to use. ------------------ Do not taunt Happy Fun Ball. [This message has been edited by Wolfpack (edited 03-18-2001).]
13. Actually, I think he was talking about setting up two lines of defense so if you get forced out of your first line, there's another behind you you can move into and maybe get a bit of time to get settled in (Thus placing them out of LOS of your first line) I could be wrong, but that's the way I understood him...just defense in depth. ------------------ Do not taunt Happy Fun Ball.
14. Obviously spoken by someone who hasn't learned the whole history of the war. Two fronts tended to stabilize in trench warfare, the French and the Turkish. With better leadership, both of those could have avoided the stalemate also. The first month or so of the war was proceeding quite quickly until the German mistakes in strategy caught up with them. The Russian Front was definitely not trench warfare, the spaces involved made this nearly impossible. The Balkan front and Italian front were both fairly mobile, more restricted by the terrain than by trenches (With a few notable exceptions) Besides in the scale involved, even the French front could have some interesting battles, since on the small unit scale away from the real meat grinders like Ypres, there were some good actions fought. I think it would be easier and more interesting to regress this engine to previous wars than to advance into modern warfare. Hell, I'm still waiting for a good American Civil War game to come out...been about 12 years since the last one I enjoyed. Anyone remember No Greater Glory? ------------------ Do not taunt Happy Fun Ball.
15. Hehe I wouldn't say you can wade through incoming fire, but the extra armor does tend to make up for some mistakes. Remember though, even though it is thick, it is horribly angled, so the actual level of protection isn't quite as good as it looks. Take care of it, don't run it out in the middle of nowhere alone, and it'll do good work. (Not that this slow bastard can really run anywhere. ) ------------------ Do not taunt Happy Fun Ball.
16. If anyone has a decent CM icon, I'd like to know...being absolutely untalented as far as that stuff goes, I would love to get a new one. ------------------ Do not taunt Happy Fun Ball.
17. I really don't think it would be all that practical unless done as an all infantry game. The ranges of effective attack have increased so much since WWII that half your equipment could realistically be placed off map. Calling in offboard M-1 fire anyone? I'd prefer them to go the other way and do maybe WWI. Western front might not be too much fun, but there were plenty of interesting battles elsewhere. ------------------ Do not taunt Happy Fun Ball.
18. I'll send you my AAR to show just how bad it got for me. =) ------------------ Do not taunt Happy Fun Ball.
19. lol...yeah, the "usual hollywood bull****" has been replaced by typical Soviet propaganda bull****. I'll go see the movie, but also keep in mind that this is pretty much based on Soviet propaganda and not any real historical action. I'm sure there was a crack russian sniper in Stalingrad, probably more than one. But to imagine that his actions decided the battle? That's like saying to the Soviet troops that had held parts of the city for months, "Good job, but now let's get to the really important part". I mean, if this was so crucial, why didn't they just evacuate the city and let these two duel to decide the winner? Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe the bit about the Germans bringing out their best sniper to hunt him down is pretty much BS too. I think the Germans had a bit more to worry about than one sniper in the general context of the battle. ------------------ Do not taunt Happy Fun Ball.
20. Well Mike, if YOU say MY last campaign scenario, you wouldn't blame me for trying anything to get a little extra help. ------------------ Do not taunt Happy Fun Ball.
21. Geez, the number of variables involved would make this a bit more confusing than your McD's example. For instance, do you get more for your money with a StuH42 or a Hummel? I personally think the StuH42, merely because it's more survivable (Although in a town or village, I love the Hummel for razing buildings), but some people will disagree with me. There really is no single best force for any side, in any situation, it depends too much on the player and how well or poorly, he uses the forces at hand. ------------------ Do not taunt Happy Fun Ball.
22. If we can work around my schedule (Usually about 3PM to 11PM CST) I would love to be in this since one campaign I was in was stillborn, and another is taking a long hiatus. ------------------ Do not taunt Happy Fun Ball.
23. I played with one last night and got 3 shots per turn. Depends how far along the reloading/sighting process is when the turn ends. It was 2 or 3 shots each turn. Martin, that 3rd run seemed a bit more like it from the games I've played. The whole game yesterday, my first shots were causing troops to evacuate their positions. Course the big problem is, as you said, HMG fire. I lost one to a long MG shot. If I buy them, I try to mix in a StuH42 or two so I can have a bit more close in punch, plus they're more likely to take on light armor. ------------------ Do not taunt Happy Fun Ball.
24. Geez, take all the fun out of it if I actually win my second multiplayer game ever. What fun is proving you're not the worst ever CM player if you can't taunt those who actually end up below you? ------------------ Do not taunt Happy Fun Ball.
25. Hey here's a question now that I've gotten 2 of my games going...what's the prize for being the worst in the group? I mean, the winners get to move on, I think everyone that fails to win one (Or is this just gonna be me? ) should play to see who gets the "Worst PBEMer of the Year" award or something. ------------------ Do not taunt Happy Fun Ball.
