1. OK, I just want to jump in on requests for CMX2. -The replay movie of entire games. Huge files I know, but what a great feature! -I would like to see the turns variable length; instead of just one minute, maybe let them run continuously real time til you hit pause. Then it could run for 1 minute or 2 minutes or 5 minutes while the boys carry out your commands and you only need to stop the clock and issue new orders as the situation dicates. In multiplayer mode, maybe put a limit on how many pauses or order stopages you could make. Just an idea that might need to be thought out. -And yes, multi-player online gaming. Capt. Vance Astrovich
 2. Thanks you very much for this info. Been a lot of silence of late, which breeds uncertainty and rumour. We all appreciate this update. That's all I will say, though I, like everyone have dozens of questions ( like do we get the movie play...) forget it. I can wait... I think.
 3.
quote:
Originally posted by Michael Dorosh: It's out.

Yes, it was released here in Canada 2 weeks or so ago. The Battle of Kursk Operation is AMAZING!!!! And you just won't believe those Sturmtigers!
 4.
quote:
Originally posted by ciks: WOOOHOOOOO! Thanks, Ted! 5.
quote:
Originally posted by Scipio: Nice articel. I will be really pissed if I must fight the Stalingrad battle on a map with flat 'rubble' tiles

I totally agree there. Rubble should be improved.
 6.
quote:
Originally posted by Pvt. Ryan: I thought Desert Shield and Desert Storm were good names.

I remember when that attack happened and Desert Shield became Desert SWORD. Now that was appropriate naming if ever I heard it! Of course within a couple of minutes I realized I didn't hear Desert Storm properly, that what I thought was Desert Sword was really Desert Storm. It really should have been called Desert Sword though. Perfect to go from the defense of Desert Shield to the offence of Desert Sword.
 7. Well, I haven't really done any terrain Mod changes on my game for quite a while. I was very happy with it the way it was. And still am really, except...well... I think I do like that new grass, and...that marsh mod is by for the best I've seen. Is that yours, or...??? The water I might try to. I'd like to share my tree mod prefrences because I still think the ones I am using are nicer than the ones in the photos, but I totally forget whose mods I have now. And as was said earlier, to each his own. Keep us informed as to when the grass is released. Thanks for the nice work, and any hints as to those marsh and water mod.
 8. I see a few possibilities here that I do not think exist, but should. 1) Generate a QB using a pre-existing map. Like choose your own forces or have the comp chose the forces, all with a few clicks of the mouse. But the map comes from outside the QB builder. 2) And is there any way to take a map generated at random in a QB, and save it for use again in a scenario you build, or if #1 existed, to use again in another QB. If there are ways to do this in CMBO, I would like to be enlightened. And are these features going to find their way into CMBB? Thanks for your help.
 9.
quote:
Originally posted by Madmatt: ONE REPLY?!? I post a new mod and I only get ONE reply back? Geez I remember when a CMHQ update could generate 20-30 posts in just under an hour...Woe is me.... Madmatt

Hey, remember this IS the sumemer time, and other people have vacations to take to. And summer day things to do. And other family members are less likely to allow one to sit and play a little CM in the heat of summer than in the dead of winter.
 10. The first couple of TCP/IP beta-releases had their flaws, but the final 1.12 version has been rock solid for me. I can't remember any unusual crashes using it.
 11. Zhukov! Zhukov? Man, I was just going to answer with Hitler, just to cast my vote, and leave it at that! But then I see someone actually suggesting Zhukov? The Commisar has ampley defended Zhukov, who would likely lead in a poll for the Best General of the war. Defender of Moscow, Leningrad and Stalingrad! I cringed at the suggestion of Churchill too, for to me he was a great man. But his charisma that helped steel the nation in it's darkest hour was his greatest contribution. I have heard of some not so great ideas Churchill had, however he didn't have complete and unfettered power to implement them like Hitler did. But yes, Hitler was the worst Commander. When they invaded Russia, he could have won the peoples of that country over so easily. Instead, he proclaimed them sub-humans whose lives were worthless. They had no choice but to fight or to die! Of course this is only one of countless blunders he made. I stop here. Zhukov?!?!?!
 12. The grass does look great Tom. And to join the others who have said it, so does that darn Stug!
 13. World at War turned me on to WWII history when I was 13 or 14. After many years not seeing it, have watched a few episodes I got off the net (VCD) and am amazed at how great this series is. Highly recommend it, though it is a broader look at the war, not detailed depictions of particular battles or equipment. Politacal and strategic level Documentary. I love the episodes on Russian Campaign. That "Unknown War"looks very good! I have heard of Battlefields. Does that deal with individual battles or campaigns of the war?
 14.
quote:
Originally posted by Pascal DI FOLCO: Have pity of those poor Panzer crews in a hot summer and hot machine, don't give them winter coats !

Yes, at least not til Combat Mission 2 comes out. Then I think they'll need them!
 15. Yes, the site does seem down. I arrive at a tripod German page, but I see nothing of CM or you. Sorry, my German is non-existent really, so I do not know if I am missing something or if there is a problem with the site. Maybe your site is getting too many hits. But all the good comments are making me drool!
 16.
quote:
Originally posted by Wilhammer: OK, this is for the non-grongards, non historical types.... Today is the 60th Anniversary of the start of Barbarosa.

That is indeed worth noting. Hey, CM II should have been released on today! Well now, guess they will have to hold off til June 22 of next year now.
 17. Quote from the diary of a German Soldier in Stalingrad in late 1942, taken from "The World at War" episode on Stalingrad. "By day, it is an enormous cloud of burning, blinding smoke; a vast furnace lit by the reflection of the flames. And when night arrives, one of those very hot, noisy, bloody nights, the dogs plunge into the Volga and swim desparately to gain the other bank. The nights of Stalingrad are a terror for them. Animals flee from this hell. The hardest stones cannot bear it for long. Only men endure.
 18.
quote:
Originally posted by Michael Dorosh: Why do I get the feeling this is a scam

Yes, I get a bad feeling from your posts. And I'd really like to have this interesting sounding document if it is for real! Why not find a different way to disseminate it? Some of us are paranoid, I know.
 19. OK, I should have noticed this before, but never did. Playing as the Germans, and nearing the end of the scenario. Some (well, many actually) of my squads are in low ammo situations. Am wondering if my opponents troops are in the same boat. Well, a couple of movies ago I was watching near an American position when what do I overhear? "We need more Ammo!" & one other exclamation telling me in no uncertain turns that at least some of the Yanks are low on ammo. Really this isn't a big deal, but it made me feel a little better. But I thought of my opponent listening in on my Axis troops. He could gleen nothing from thier banter, seeing as how his German is zero, so his fear and uncertainty remain.
 20. Is this on the web site? I didn't find it right off. I think it looks marvelous and would like to have it.
 21. 3 comments. First, what about the person who plays a game BOTH PBEM and TCP/IP? Would that mean a third ladder for these combination games? Second, why not provide a second listing or ranking based on % win/lose record. Just have it there as another system rating for people to use to compare. Last, there could even be a ranking list that just rates people based on there last 20 games, or 50 games, or 100 games or some arbitrary number. Then whether it takes 1 month or 1 year to play the required # of games, it is a comparison of just that # of games.
 22. Yes, Steel Panthers was the closest thing to Squad Leader or ASL, and as a simulation, it is/was second to none. But CM, with the ability for you to get right on the ground with your troops and view in real-time what happens through time...aaahhhh! How can I return to that top down moving hex by hex game? Well, I can't really.
 23. While in the orders phase of your PBEM game, press ALT-S to save the game like a regular game vs. computer. After you exit the game, you can go to War Room and load that saved game. It will ask you if you want to play TCP/IP, PBEM or Hotseat. Choose TCP/IP, enter password, then you get the "Waiting for someone to connect" screen. YUour opponent now joins up like a regular TCP/IP game...well, that's cuz it now is a regular TCP/IP game, except picks up at the turn you saved it at.
